    Bob, you 100% earned that award. Victoria’s simultaneously a magnificent work of craft, a piece of art, and a glorious demonstration of technology. The kick-up rudder, those cooler-than-a-penguin latches, and the glassed strip hull are so perfectly suited for their task, and repairable in an emergency, just the right tech for a voyaging boat.

    What a remarkably stable little boat. A true work of art that I'm sure Capt. Steve will cherish as long as he lives.

    I am pretty proud of myself for already knowing the "Trucker's Hitch." I learned it on a military deployment. We used it with para cord to set up a clothes line. And whipping a rope end. I learned that in boy scout camp in 1970. First we made the damn rope from twine that we twisted using stick from the woods. Next we waxed the rope. Finally we whipped the tail ends of the rope using just a bit of twine we used to make the rope. So f-ing cool. Thx KP!

      @ps.2 10 місяців тому

      What, you didn't forage the wax from beehives, or harvest and spin the hemp?
      Great stuff. Wish I had learned more rope stuff as a kid - to this day I only know a couple of knots and they never seem to be the right one for the job. That's a resolution for 2024, learn maybe a half dozen useful knots.

    With just a few more sticks and pivot pins, I think the removable sole can also double as a picnic table on a beach.

    Bob you are a cross between Bob Ross and norm Abram. I cant get enough of these builds. Your style is so relaxed and stress free.

    Congrats on the award! Even without, those of us that have watched greatly appreciate the build and look forward to your next. One day when I'm driving through central Illinois, I will drive past your shop, or at least the town and think that is where Victoria got a second life. The rest of the family will be clueless.
    I also found it interesting you didn't know that it would be towed, out back, most of the time. That is the norm when it is expected to get regular use. In port you just pull it up close, maybe on the side for a short, good weather trip. The hassle of bringing it on deck is the oddball.
    KP's rigging/knots tutorial was also a nice aside.

    Arabella was slowly built by sweat and blood and a lot of learning. Victoria was built by a true Master craftsman. From the keel up. FOR FREE!! Bob, I had no idea that you lived so far away. I don't know why I never made that connection. I probably did but just never have it much thought I suppose. Victoria IS THE ART OF BOAT BUILDING!!!

    Bob, if you make it, make it beautiful, and that you did.
    you take no short cuts and build like it should been build.
    And I do recognize the attitude, I'm a pensioner now, but I was educated as a graphic designer, worked most of my career as a train driver, but in everything I did professionalism is what's prevails.
    And I also see this in your work, so the recognition in winning that prize at the wooden boat show is a well deserved recognition of your pristine and dedicated work.
    Well done sir, you got my deepest respect.
    Best regards,
    Danny

    And because of Steve and Bob I'm thinking about building my own boat using the techniques I've learnt from you two, the main difference is it'll be radio controlled. I really don't have much room. 🤔

My 10 and a half made of 1/4” marine plywood weighed in at 137, but it also has a lot of mahogany parts. I guess I thought cedar was heavier than it is. the spitsail is one of the oldest rigs along with the lateen and junk rig Was used on the Thames sailing barge The spritsail when compared to the Bermuda, Gaff , lateen rigs was found to be the most efficient rig from a Palmer report in Woodenboat 1990 like the other square sails such as the lug It doesn't not point as well So, a jib would be a great add on If your boat can handle another sail

    • @TheArtofBoatBuilding
      @TheArtofBoatBuilding  Рік тому

      The tow eye was install previously, I showed the installation in a earlier video.
      The placement is important. Unfortunately there isn’t a formula for this. What you want is for the tenders bow to ride high. So a low placement is necessary. Much for the placement will depend on the shape of the stem.
