9 year 2 month old Angelina created a great arrangement (seen working on it at the beginning of the video) then took charge of the studio and the band to deliver my favorite cover of this 1956 Jay Hawkins classic. Angelina's sharp inflections are like daggers being hurled at you. Her sassy, emotional performance has left many reactors exhausted, befuddled and/or speechless. As talented as Angelina is, she is an even better human being, humble and filled with empathy. Please take the time to read the biography I compiled for my all time favorite musical artist. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 or 7 year old. Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on UA-cam recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.” At age 8, (please refer to replies by erik to a comment I made on JHTreacts video on 6/7/21 who provides proof Angelina had already turned 8) Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. The next performance on NGT was her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. She taught herself and begged her mom to let her enter competitions. Her parents never pushed her, but stressed the importance of her education first. Mom finally relented when she was 7, and entered into Norway’s Got Talent, which she won singing Jazz covers. She arranges all of her songs. Angelina says that she never gets nervous, she loves to sing.
She was 9 at the time of this recording. This was her arrangement. She auditioned in Norway's Got Talent when she was seven. She won that competition. She may have turned eight during that time. She sang Bohemian Rhapsody on America's Got Talent the Champions when she was 13. Quite a talent!

I fell hopelessly and completely in love with this angel, the very first time I heard her, which was on AGT at 13. Doing Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen. Truly amazing. She reminds me of the late Eva Cassidy, in the way she covers the well known songs. You would know the title, and think I know how this will sound, and then your jaw hits the ground when she does the song. She sang for the Nobel peace prize concert at age 8. She has incredible range and absolute control. Does her own arrangements. When her record label (Republic Records) , family and herself want it, they can just push the button. Many people forget that she is only 15 years old today, because she is so mature for her age. No need to hurry, I'm sure Angelina has good people around her. I think everyone on her team including the record company (Republic Records), slows down a bit with marketing her. She is so good anyway, so she can not be ignored. She delivers music that lasts, and not music that lasts for a few weeks as plastic hit. Angelina has over 600 Million Views on UA-cam and over 2 Billion Views on Facebook overall on her videos. Angelina won Norway's Got Talent at the Age of 8, and has been producing masterclass level vocals ever since. The only and regular marketing is done by the fans via UA-cam. There is a story that the producer brought in food and beers when he first recorded it, they got a little drunk, but it proved very popular... Angelina tried to do a more musical version, but still with the passion of the original.
I think what SJ Hawkins did was parody the opera genre, mocking it's ritualistic style, since as a black man in the USA in the 1950's he was never allowed on stage though he'd done all the training and had the voice. I think Angelina's interpretation expresses his outrage perfectly, though how she came to that at her age is a mystery. Grandma Mery?

You might want to check out a recent song Angelina wrote called Million Miles. She wrote it in memory of her grandfather who died in 2019. It’s a beautiful song and you will see how the 6 foot plus Angelina has grown. I recommend the live in studio version of it.
@@shanialover If she is 5 foot 4 then I am a towering giant of 7 foot 7 whereas, in reality, I am a mere 5 foot 8. Do a search, and you will find pictures of Angelina with other people whose height is known to be near 6 ft, and she is taller than they are.

Not only is she clearly much taller then the interviewers, but they she she’s 6 foot tall to her face, and when she walks away she’s wearing trainers, so no high heels.

Her uncle/manager in an interview last year he talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down. Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan. Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions. At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities. Angelina Jordan has about 140 songs in her repertoire. Late last year she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. According to her, she began singing at the ripe age of 1 and a half years old. At about 4 or 5 years old, she began begging her parents, to let her try out for "Simon's show", as she put. They finally relented, and allowed her to try out for Norway's Got Talent. As she has stated many times; She won Norway's Got Talent at 7 years old, with songs like "Summertime" and "Gloomy Sunday". At the end of the final, it was announced that she had garnered 46% of the vote total, with the other nine finalists combining for the remaining 54%. It wasn't even close. Angelina always performs barefoot, as a reminder of the millions of impoverished children in the world, This began one day, on the way to a performance. This is the "Screamin'" Joe Hawken's arrangement he recorded while drunk. (No, not kidding.) He didn't even remember recording it. To get to Angelina, we are talking some deep jazz roots; torch songs if you will. Back to Julie London and alike. She is not competing with anyone alive; she is channeling their sound. As a young performer, it's easier to mimic a proven sound than come up with your own, especially in such a monotone age as we live in. She is amazing because she has figured out the secret sauce and has the innate talent to pull it off.
So, you see that at 9 years and 2 months old she is already a professional and accomplished artist who has captured the essence of the original song by Screamin' Jay Hawkins in 1956 in her arrangement. She chose this song as a tribute to the original singer, whose picture is shown on the candle in the beginning and the papers she handed to the band leader were her last-minute changes for him. The band may have gone in that day and been taken aback by playing for a nine-year-old, but by the end of the day they were calling her, "The Boss." Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019.
Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 or 7 year old.
Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on UA-cam recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.”
At age 8, (please refer to replies by erik to a comment I made on JHTreacts video on 6/7/21 who provides proof Angelina had already turned 8) Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
The next performance on NGT was her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
On June 27, 2018 Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London.

I fell hopelessly and completely in love with this angel, the very first time I heard her, which was on AGT at 13. Doing Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen. Truly amazing. She reminds me of the late Eva Cassidy, in the way she covers the well known songs. You would know the title, and think I know how this will sound, and then your jaw hits the ground when she does the song. She does it her way, and makes it like a brand new song, heard for the first time. This girl will go places, if producers don't try to tell her what they want, but let her do her thing. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). She starts low, rising in intensity throughout and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style.
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). So Angelina was 7 years old when she won Norway’s got talent in 2014. She was nine years old when she recorded I PUT A SPELL ON YOU. In 2019 she competed in America’s Got Talent The Champions.She was 13 years old she sang a soulful version of Bohemian Rhapsody which won her the golden buzzer.

A first time reaction to Angelina is always priceless - she is actually even better than it seems after 1 video - simply because she can sing anything.... In my (and most of the viewers) opinion, she is a generational talent, probably the best singer born in the 2000s (And many of us are older than most reactors). There is a story that the producer brought in food and beers when he first recorded it, they got a little drunk, but it proved very popular... Angelina tried to do a more musical version, but still with the passion of the original.
I think what SJ Hawkins did was parody the opera genre, mocking it's ritualistic style, since as a black man in the USA in the 1950's he was never allowed on stage though he'd done all the training and had the voice. I think Angelina's interpretation expresses his outrage perfectly, though how she came to that at her age is a mystery. Grandma Mery?

You might want to check out a recent song Angelina wrote called Million Miles. She wrote it in memory of her grandfather who died in 2019. It’s a beautiful song and you will see how the 6 foot plus Angelina has grown. I recommend the live in studio version of it.

@@shanialover sometimes you need to ignore google and engage with reality. If you search google for Meeting Angelina Jordan, there is a video by React to the World from 2019 when she was thirteen. Not only is she clearly much taller then the interviewers, but they she she’s 6 foot tall to her face, and when she walks away she’s wearing trainers, so no high heels.

Angelina Jordan was 9 years old when this song was recorded. It was a tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins who was quite a character. Most of the times he performed the song rising from a coffin in a voodoo style. Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong.
Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simons Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World.
After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview last year he talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down.
Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan.
Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions.
At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities.
Angelina Jordan has about 140 songs in her repertoire. Late last year she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. She will wow and surprise you all the time. 15 years old today who is an excellent role model for today’s youth and her best is yet to come.

At the end of the final, it was announced that she had garnered 46% of the vote total, with the other nine finalists combining for the remaining 54%. It wasn't even close. Angelina always performs barefoot, as a reminder of the millions of impoverished children in the world, This began one day, on the way to a performance. She found herself talking to a similarly aged little girl on the street, weighing people for bits of change, and noticed she was barefoot. She asked, and her mom explained the less fortunate. Moments later, Angelina gave her new little friend, the shoes she had been wearing, and they embraced. It's my understanding, that they still stay in touch. Angelina has already raised millions for various children's charities. Angelina does all of her own arrangements, writes, composes, sews and designs most of the frocks she performs in. 😉😊✌

Angelina Jordan is a music prodigy she started singing at age of 1.5 years and more than that she started with Billy Holiday Jazz. Angelina speaks 3 languages, designs her own clothes, and has written a very popular book called "Mellom to hjerter" (Between Two Hearts) a story about why she wears no shoes during her performances, and like her name she truly is an angel with a heart of gold. Angelina won Norway's got talent she started the competition at 7 years old and won at 8 years old. Her younger years before age 13 she was watched over by her mother (Sara) and her Uncle who just wanted her to grow up normal. Her mother and uncle Turned down almost 90% of all requests for her to perform but even so from age 7years to 12 years old or so, she has been all over the world (Mother never more than a breath away) Angelina has produced over 130 covers, and she makes all of them her own, all of which will astound you. To get to Angelina, we are talking some deep jazz roots; torch songs if you will. Back to Julie London and alike. She is not competing with anyone alive; she is channeling their sound. As a young performer, it's easier to mimic a proven sound than come up with your own, especially in such a monotone age as we live in. She was 10 years old here. She is now 15. At 7-8 years old she won Norway’s Got Talent. She sang Billy Holiday and Sinatra. She grew up singing jazz and though she sings more popular covers now. As a former champion (Norway) she participated in America’s GotTalent the Champions in 2019 when she was 13.
I suggest you listen to her version of Bohemian Rhapsody that she sang and got the Golden Buzzer for another AGT Chapions.

You need to see where her confidence comes from. She's always had it. On Norway's Got Talent she auditioned when she was seven singing Billie Holliday's "Gloomy Sunday".
