Hey there lovely Gurdians! This time I am delivering a highly requested video!!
So many people wrote me on instagram how interested they are in getting a full Pedalboard tour. You know, the Effect Board that lots of Guitarists use. Instead of using a Guitar, I use the gurdy. Cause with a gurdy you can also use a pedalboard on stage. Since I just had a whole tour full of experiences with it, there you go: Pedalboard tour! Enjoy!!

If you don't have the time, skip to 5:16 and thank me later.
I'd say skip to 4:38 ^_^
Hello, I'm a fan of your music and I would like to get this instrument you would have a site to advise me because I looked but I did not find anything, thank you very much and continue, sorry for my English I am French :)
Echt nicht so cool. Die music ist so toll. Scheiß drauf.
You're a peach.
Have you ever tried doing a rendition of "Within You Without You" by The Beatles?
You Patty, have proven the gurdy is the metal guitar of medieval music. And dare we say, the future? Yes. Yes we dare.
Electric hurdy gurdy time here we come. Distortion pedal and electric pickups on a hurdy gurdy would be so awesome.
The last distortion sound is out of this world!!! Supercool!!! Rock on Patty!!!🤙
Hell yeah!
it warrents an album all its own!
The second solo is "Over the Hills and Far Away"
The djenty stuff sounds like a Rammstein riff
I highly support you to go to ESC because you are awesome with that melodies of hope and you are our biggest chance since a whole lifetime!
Shimmer sounds like you are playing in a desert grotto, with that sweet gurdy voice echoing off the rocks. Ethereal.
Scott called it 😎👍‼️ “Shimmer” with the tune you played, sounded just like Berber music 😍👍
Hello from USA I love your hurdy-gurdy Patty!! From Pat
Нравится мне её музыка и песни как поёт. И вообще. Она мне нравится! Хорошая!
This was wicked cool! Instant sub. Shared!
That was wonderful love the third one and the last one but always love the stage ❤ one it just punches the gurdy to a new level but the distortions are metal especially the last bit and more songs that way would be awesome 👌 👏 👍 😍 💖 ❤
Дякуємо за чудове музичне відео - Те, що ти робиш, ВАЖЛИВО!
Бажаємо каналу Patty Gurdy процвітання та багатства.
Вітання з України!
This is SOOOO cool and you are so insanely good 😭❤
Hey Patty, Love your music :D I am most of the time into heavy and melodic death metal, but I have a fond love to folk metal, and I love how a lot of german bands use a Gurdy to make the metal vibes even more medival :D Love it!
Ooooh, that last one was the best and bad ass! 🤘😞🤘
Regarding the pedal board vs the studio, I think the reason for the different views in effects is that a true artist can perform on stage, in person, in real time.
With the pedal board, the artist picks the sound they want, much like tuning their instrument... and then gets one shot to display their mastery live in real time.
While the studio can be used simply to add effects, these days of auto tune and such have led to far too many artists doing crap performances which they then simply "fix" in the studio.
There is nothing more frustrating and disappointing than paying the exorbitant ticket prices these days to see such an artist live, only to find that they can barely muster a decent performance and are incapable of producing a polished sound live... because the song you came to love was the product of a studio lab rather than the artists skill.
In short, the pedals adjust the sound PRE-performance/in real time = art. The studio lab adjusts the sound POST-performance = art-ificial (fake).
absolutely true!
👍👍👍
The constant turning drum of the gurdy is like a natural acoustic distortion in itself
The last kind of sound just wants me to join in with massive double bass drums...
😛👍
Can we get an electric hurdy gurdy with some 9 string guitar sounds included.
In my opinion, the natural melody without electronic effects is clearly the most beautiful.
Thanks to you, the hurdy-gurdy and its possibilities began to fascinate me, but you fascinate me even more because you can use these possibilities. I am very glad that YT once recommended you to me
Such a lovely girl!
Very interesting video patty awesome sounds from the pedal board
Distortion-cool
Studio effects: people dis music that cannot be reproduced live, thus the gripe. However, effects that can be reproduced live are great. So great, it pushes the boundaries of what the instrument can do, and that is always fun to hear a new sweet effect to polish off a song.
Она афигенная
loved the last sound! I bet you can have so much fun with that..!😄
One can literally see how you feel the music you're playing and that you're one with your gurdy. 😁
Wooow❤❤❤❤
please we need a full metal song 🥺🖤
Hello!!! GG this métal sound whith your hurdy gurdy... Absolutly incredible... I LOVE THIS SOUND❤❤❤❤
I really appreciate you sharing your music and such a wonderful instrument with the world. I've listened to you for about 7 years now? When you released leaves and lemons, I've been hooked ever since and love just about all of your songs.
re: 3:30: I wonder if it's because people think the studio effects are just running a bunch of filters after the music is recorded (which, sometimes it is, but sometimes it's done live), which they then view negatively like auto-tune. But when they see you doing it live with a pedal board, it's still "live" music done on the fly, so they see it as "real" rather than "faking it" in post-production.
I'd love to hear you play the Hurdy Gurdy parts to Metallica's Low Man's Lyric and The Memory Remains
I loved it. Each sound has its place and the differences doesn't take away the clasic sound of your Gurdy. Loved it. Stay safe. God Speed. ❤️🌹🤘
Cracked of Musical Craziness in Future Begin. 👍🏻
Most of mainstream music is trashy crappy. Mixing good part music with trashy thing for purpose.
Over 40+ years, I've played a lot of instruments and as many different styles.
Odd that I primarily focused on Metal, Mahavishnu, and Bothy Band Irish (even got to play guitar with two of the members at a pub-style jam in the earliest 80's in Portland OR/USA... the same two who made an LP with the name of that town).
Distortion ? Fine. no problem... ask anyone whose been next to a well-schooled Highland piper in a house with 2m10cm ceilings.
Ouch, my ears.
If one is in a traditional-only band, then distortion might not be the first choice for a core sound in a circle of 6.
But if you're into pushing the envelope, making music fill voids where only emotions once dwelt ...
...Well then, if life screams at you, scream back.
Be it a voice, or a pedal, or a octave played below, or the sound of a chugging metal beast... put it on tape, get it down in bits, and put it up on the stage !
ymmv
Heard a French artist make his into a guitar as well but he ends up breaking his crank in one of his videos. I mean he really cranks his Gurdy hard. Lol no pun intended for the dirty but damn I bet you could really get going with just a tune like that.
Well I don't recognize the others but the second one was Over The Hills And Far Away..... :)
.....which I have just noticed is first on the list of suggested videos as I'm typing this... :D
Saying Hi from Canada 💚
Differences between studio and live when it comes to effects is kind of split into two things:
1- studio hardware: you have access to so many effects plugins and hence easy to put some in weird ways. Computerized recording helps a lot with putting many tracks with each a specific effect. Clean track, downtuned one, distorted one and downtuned distorted one. It may help adding thickness and fatness to the sound. But I guess a band will not take 4 or 5 hurdy gurdy players for instance. This leads to the second point.
2- live setup forces you to do a lot of compromises. Global reverb setting, or distortion or whatever effect you will use. Also, that multitracking stuff is either not done, or done with X sets of signals plugged into either amps or the mixing table.
I'll give thee an example: I love Marduk, and how it sounds big on guitars when it comes to albums. But live, it's somehow disappointing because it sounds way thinner and simpler, because there is 5 or 6 tracks, rhythm and leads included, of guitars. But they cant really do it live.
Same goes on vox effects done in studio, massive reverb for instance, which may give a nice effect. Live, it is way diluted to avoid sounding like sh#t.
For anyone else who's interested in amp modelers like I am and was wondering, looks like it's called the Nux MG-30. Not sure why she didn't name it, but there you go.
Can we hear you play Metallica circa Ride the Lightning Era on hurdy gurdy? :P That last sound was !!!!!
This is my opinion And we can all agree that not all opinions are great.. Anything other then the last metal gurdy sounds "fake" to my ears it sounds graney and completely computer generated. I've never heard a 'gurdy in person but I have seen several videos of them and they all sound natural and very mellow/smooth. Even her natural sound without effects sounds very CGI to me.
please perform at eurovision!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u will blow the roof off luv from ca usa
Interesting pedal board tour with absolutely no mention of what pedal you are using! LOL!🤣
This is not my personal views, but I think some people feel very strongly that pedalboard or "live effects" demonstrates more skill, or at least a different skill. I think some people feel that the studio effects is just Photoshop for music. Trying to hide some.... Imperfections in order to appeal to the masses.
Personally, there are reasons for both methods and they need to be appreciated in their own rights. I like to listen to good music. Doesn't matter much to me how it's made.
You must have the treble really rolled off on that shimmer sound. Every shimmer effect I've tried on guitar was really shrill without lots of tweaking.
I'm disappointed in myself for not recognizing Man The Cannons at 4:56 until now, and only a collab will make me feel better.
I love your songs and come back to them for inspiration. You make me want to play an instrument again. That last sound distortion seems fit for a battle cry.
This is a wonderful insight into your skills and talents! Love this!!!
The last sound is my absolute favourite! Love it.
Hi new subscriber here and I'd love to know where you got the gurdy? I'd love to know where to start with learning how to play and such
OMG, please come to Newfoundland for Sound Symposium!
Got the ampero too for my solo project coming this year found very versatile i love it
So right, Patty! Just as it really isn't important of a car is red or blue; does IT look good this way- your peddle board (you can "peddle" me anytime!) or the studio only need to accept that one comment- does it sound as you conceived it. FR
You're such a beautiful young woman with happy personality.
It was really interesting.
And the distorted song we have to guess. I feel like I've heard it, but I don't know which song it is.
4:38 2nd one was definetely "over the hills", 3rd was I think "mein Herz brennt"
Can u play broks song from God of War. Ragnarok. Hurdy Gurdy in the scene
The Longing is how I discovered you, and I’m a lifelong fan forever more!!
Cool! What's the brand and the exact model name of the pedalboard? :)
Ein Mal auf Deutsch bitte!!… hahaha… du bist echt Hammer!!!.. Liebe Grüße aus Südbrasilien!!!..
Your English is excellent. How/when did you learn?
It's awesome ,
While I find out you&your musics , I love it, especially to ryhtyms :)
I dare Tonny Iomi or Jimmy Page to sound this good. She's prettier too.
Can't comment on dope - but it sounds a bit ecclesiastical or maybe Arabic.
Thank you Patty, great!
this great, love your music
Eu gosto muito do seu canal das suas músicas e você é linda
we need a song only with the distortion in the end lol
Which song is the first one? The end sounds so familiar to me but i don't know 🤔
Ok... Here's an answer from me who is a former pro musician and now a record/sound producer... In the studio it's very hard to microphone a Marshall amp with distortion that either the artist or song is happy with.. but there are so many similar effects that can be used on a digital recording studio that can be altered to the correct ambiance of the song... So I'd go for effect over purity
Lookin good while sounding good is super good!
I don't see any problem with using effect pedals in the studio. The song's arrangement and artistic direction is what should dictate the tech use. I've used both pedals and multiple amps, as well as recorded directly and created everything in the program. It's all in the name and direction of creativity.
I was expecting slayer or something. cool nonetheless.
Ngl, I wanna hear some After The Burial on one of these now.
Wow! That’s so cool. 💚
Heck yeah! I’d like to se a cover of the Halo 3 theme song!
Team up with Loreena McKennitt dream sound
I think we need a full version or something of the last part it was too short
Yoooo that “discordad stuff” sounds awesome!!!!!
"On dope" almost sounds like an middle eastern tuning.
A whole Song with the last distortion Sound would be awesome 🥰🤘🏼
Is there a full version of 5:16 onwards patty?
When i hear a hurdy gurdy i wanna go to war
Personally I view the pedal as more natural. It's still the sound your instrument does in direct connection to you while in studio anything is possible
Thank you for the preview! My teacher says I should look into pedals because he thinks I'd really enjoy it. Do you have to go through your breakout box to connect it? I haven't worked with the electronic side of my Carbon much because of the 7-pin output.
gurdians lol, that's a horrible word.
Shimmer sound. I don't know about 'on dope', but it does sound to me like we're in a parking garage.
Pedal board vs studio. (just my guess) Pedal board is real-time so more like a part of the instrument; or at minimum, the performance. vs Something that is meticulously manipulated after the playing is finished. That's the most rational thing I can come up with. That, or simply too many people just like to use the internet to complain about things they know nothing about.
#1 = "Oil"
#2 = Nightwish "Over The Hills And Far Away"
#3 (with gentle distortion) = ???? I like the sound! Its super cool. I don't recognize the song though.
New music any time soon??? Touring the United States anytime soon?!?!?!
Wish I could hear like a good dotted 8th delay on it.
btw, happy greeeeeeen st patrck, to you, too....
Nice video thanks 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ahhhhhh.., Patty darlin'.... . For this ol'man it's always a pleasure to have you here, doin' what you do & the kind little caveats about you & instruments. Yeah... I'm smitten too..., lol! Have a great & safe Merry Christmas & Happy Holidaze....
Patty : Please consider re-imagining Der Leiermann , Schubert's masterpiece , singing it to its fullest poignancy ( alike Fischer-Deiskau ) in German of course with subtitles, but your way....your vision....your voice. Becoming our Leierfrau is your " Destined Course", a Jungian synchronicity attained through active imagination.
Shimmer sound is a lot like an electric sitar.
Have you ever done any recordings in a cave, or a vault? I recall hearing an album of solo flute music recorded in an Egyptian Tomb, which was hauntingly beautiful.
Sounds awesome! Thanks for the video.
That last sound belongs in a Rammstein song.
simple... the pedal shows your skill
The section from "Universe Night and day" the "Gurdy on Dope" sounded quite middle -eastern/Arabic in flavour.
Thanks for tour.
Always good to hear you.
Hey Patty, that djent sound was just "what the.." 😮... but my question, or suggestion for future vid. is: If you have the oportunity, I would love to hear the sound of different Gurdy´s! To compare/show us how they sound with your tunes 🙂. Cheers 💚 !!!
