Well it is about the final sound of the mixdown (Video Killed The Radio Star) Was it mastered mostly naturally by a bit over-driven tape (or all tapes) or was it built with compressors / with multiband / was multiband actually in use that time or all this final mastering was based on the tape sound?(in short) / and with simple compressors?
