He was a great man, as well as a great entertainer. I recently came across a mini documentary called Elvis and the Black Community. To me it revealed his integrity & his willingness not to compromise his principles. No matter what it would cost him.

Definitely. And, with his comments on the dancing, I think he’d be taken aback by the comments from white people at the beginning.

"Grease" came out in 1978 and was set in the late 1950s, hence the Elvis influence. The mid 1950s was when the rock 'n' roll era started.

Elvis and his still born twin brother Jesse were born to Vern and Gladys Presley, in a one room house in Tupelo Mississppi. Jesse was born first and as the doctor was leaving, Gladys yelled for the doctor to come back when she felt another baby coming. That baby was Elvis.
When he started making music he bought a house at 1034 Audubon Drive was Elvis Presley's first purchased house in Memphis, Tennessee, bought in 1956 for his parents with the royalties of “Heartbreak Hotel.” The King only lived there for thirteen months, but from May, 1956 to May, 1957 he became Elvis, at least the early Elvis as the world knows him.
Once he became famous and making even more money, that is when he bought Graceland in Memphis TN.

Would like to recommend you watch and review Mean Woman Blues from the Loving You movie and Trouble from King Creole. Two different styles from Elvis... of course there are many to choose from besides these two... If I Can Dream, Suspicious Minds, Bridge Over Troubled Water, In the Ghetto, Polk Salad Annie... just to name a few. Elvis is worth listening to... he was a Legendary performer and his name will live on forever!!

Always try to select the live version of Elvis. If you can’t find live versions, try to get a movie version.
I would shoot up to 1968 the song “if I can dream. “
Elvis was a huge proponent of the civil rights movement. This was during the race riots of the 1960s.
Look for a live version of this song, with Elvis Presley performing in a white suit .

Elvis didn`t change the world in 1968.

      @stevepomeroy-rockin-pa-realtor 6 місяців тому +7

@@lechat8533 Elvis helped many in a mourning nation. Many many people were grieving for the loss of two Kennedys and or Dr Martin Luther King, and other political or religious leaders that were publicly assassinated. Then you had the Vietnam war tearing young people apart. Elvis spoke through this song, and the words that he sang sadly still ring through today. Elvis gave a lot of money to the civil rights movement behind the scenes. He also hired black musicians and paid them an excellent wage, which is something that just wasn’t done back then. So yes, he absolutely changed United States of America and the world 🌎

You just watched the very first music video ..... And possibly the very first hand slide hand shake too { 2;13 through 2:16 on the time maker }...... Elvis recorded exactly 769 Songs ...... Did 31 Movies ..... Did 2 Documentaries ...... And exactly 938 live concerts ..... One of those concerts had 11/2 Billion {with a b} watch him live ..... I was one of them } ...... Through satellite Called ...... {Aloha From Hawaii} ..... That actually had the show itself and the night before the rehearsal show ..... {{ In-case the show did not go off right }} ..... Satellite recorded in Hawaii in 1973 ..... Elvis influenced the whole world ..... ABSOLUTELY ..... There was no Industry of music before Elvis .... And he is not one of the G.O.A.T 'S ....... He is the only G.O.A.T. ..... As that means ..... {The Greatest Of All Time } ..... No-One had it all but Elvis ..... No-One comes close ...... You can fight it ..... Cuss it ..... Argue it .... Reject it ..... Hell .... You can claim someone his better or equal if you want ...... But every time the dust settles ...... Elvis is still King ...... No brag ..... Just Fact ......

Well I just subscribed for the hell of it but at any rate, yeah it's quite the phenomenon it's quite the story. It's hard to even know where to go next. My instinct is that you should go even earlier back to like 1956 with the Milton Berle show where he did hound dog and set off this racist and religious firestorm. But there are so many and he was 20 or 21 around that time and then there's fantastic stuff of him when he's much older than like 1970 in Vegas finally, doing things like bridge over troubled water, great singing, or suspicious minds, it shows you how he just devastated the whole idea of fucking with the audience and your band members and vice versa and just having a good time in a live setting with no nothing.

From an old Elvis fan, it's exciting to see a young person discover him for the first time. He recorded over 700 songs in all different genres and often fused several genres together. He grew up very poor and never had any formal musical training. Everything he did was by ear.
    A couple suggestions:
Elvis Presley - Trouble/Guitar Man (Opening) ('68 Comeback Special) (3:18)
Elvis Presley - What Now My Love - Rehearsal Concert in Hawaii January 12, 1973 (3:10)

This clip from Elvis movie Jail house rock. The dance moves were his but the whole scene was choreographed around him. He was the first, the original. Thank you for your reaction and do more Elvis. As a long time Elvis fan I love watching how the younger generations react to seeing him for the first time. To understand what an icon Elvis is you have to start at the beginning when he appeared in 1956 on TV. Before he went into the Army in 1958 he was already a super star. Check out documentaries, movies, 1968 Come back special, Aloha from Hawaii, 1970 Los Vegas. You will be amazed by huge legacy Elvis left us.

It's funny because I had my first girlfriend when I was in the summer after my 9th grade and she was a year older and in the next grade up but we had a lot of good times and yeah. Grease with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, and that definitely was the mid-to-late 70s so at this point easily a decade and a half after Elvis doing his bit in one of his first movies.
But this is totally movie type choreography. And it is true that Elvis couldn't stand it and did his own thing in terms of choreography compared to everyone else, but this doesn't give you even the remotest idea of how intense he was just even a few years earlier at the age of 20 and 21. He was doing athletic stuff that still defies the imagination. Original Moonwalks and all kinds of stuff.

You got it right. "Grease" was inspired from the 1950's decade as well as the way Elvis dressed with his hairstyle. On top of this, the entire video seen here influence the movie scene in "Grease" song "Grease Lightning".

Also, Elvis caught a lot of heat from the establishment; they were so afraid of his moving his hips, etc and the effect it would have on the girls

In the 70s the 50s music and lifestyle got a big revival in USA. You see it in the cars, music , and the movies.movies like "The wanderer", "The lors of flatbush" , "Greese" etc.

Understand that Elvis was heavily influenced by black jazz musicians and singers. Listen to his version of "Hound dog" and then look up Big Momma Thornton's version.

You have to remember that America was so conservative back then that, when he first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show (THE #1 variety show of the era), they refused to allow the cameras to show him from the waist down because his gyrations were considered too suggestive.
