Lauren, recently I've been seeing a lot of people saying veganism is too expensive and that's why they haven't made the switch. Would you consider making an affordable vegan series? You are very creative and have a large platform and I feel like it could really help others see that veganism doesn't have to be more expensive than other lifestyles! :)
There was one point in our lives when my husband has been out of a job for two years! And he's the only one working, and we've managed to live vegan for almost four years. Living vegan is cheap! No expensive leather, no expensive restaurants, no meat or seafood to buy, only cheapo, super nutritious whole grain rice ($1/lbs) and ten types of beans, flax seeds, cheapo bananas, cabbages, broccoli, bokchoy, Portobello mushrooms at the 99cent store, cantaloupe, oranges, tofu ($1 a box at Asian stores), cheapo pastas and premade sauce. It's so easy!
+tritawan ruttivut I agree 100%!! I just know that some may be turned off to veganism because they are misinformed about the economical side of things. Not only would the series be interesting for existing vegans, I believe it would sway people who may be on the fence regarding this lifestyle! I just think it would be super helpful for a large group of people. :)
My kitchen is always stocked as well! I shop every Saturday morning. I literally always have envy single thing on hand I ever need! So handy :-) I like your kitchen..bet you're super happy to have a nice big fridge!
I know you do a lot of cooking since it's your job and all but do you ever have a problem with food going bad since you have so much of it?? I seem to have that problem because I buy too much food and then can't seem to eat it all or it just gets pushed into the back of my fridge and I forget about it or just decide I don't really want it because it was a spur of the moment purchase haha
+toweldingles4lyf I used to be so bad with buying too much and half of it would rot before I ever got to it so for me personally I started buying things as I need them a few times a week instead of doing one big shop every week, less goes bad that way!
Hi Lauren, I love your videos and have been addicted to watching hot for food for all my meal inspo. As a newbie to plant-based eating id love to see a video on fridge/pantry must haves that are good kitchen staples for all vegan recipes.
It would be interesting to see a video on your top kitchen tools. I'm a noob to cooking and have know I idea what tools I should get so I can start cooking properly!!
Wow u have so much food!! It all looks so good!! 😋🤗 I was just wondering if your food ever goes bad? Like the daiya cheese how do you keep it for long without expiring?
Hi Lauren, do you still use the sodastream machine very often? I have thought about getting one for about a couple of years. But i have a small kitchen so counter space is precious. what do you do with yours?
i just love how relatable you are Lauren. I just watched a popular raw vegan's what's in my fridge and it felt so unattainable to me. top shelf alone would probably be my entire grocery bill for the week #thanksforkeepingitreallyreal!
Lauren, I'm experimenting with a transition to vegan (slowly switching). I'd love if you did a series on "vegan starter pantry' and 'Vegan Starter Recipes" for those of us that are new to it and feeling alien to the products. P.S. I was very unexpectedly pleased with my purchase of nutritional yeast.
new to your channel.. love everything !! you've got a ton of stuff, like left overs, in your fridge. But i cant find anywhere a video (from nobody really..) on how to know when things go bad or until when you can eat them... Also like home made sauces, humous etc.. Any tips or maybe you can make a video about storing foods and their expiration dates?
Hey Lauren! I have a question. I currently live in Germany and I don't seem to find Hemp hearts here. Although what I do find is hemp seeds whole. Can I use those instead to your recipes that call for hemp hearts?
omg lauren im just so in love with your videos!! im super excited for you, when i first discovered you, you were at 60 thousand something and now youre at 80 thousand :D loved everything about this vid, keep up the lovely work! (i also too have some of the amazing food you mentioned ;D )xx
+Anna I was at Whole Foods recently and this woman was completely ignoring her kids as they were PLAYING in the bulk foods - digging their hands all through it and she said NOTHING TO THEM. My mom said something to her and she didn't bother saying anything to them so we told the store manager and they came over and told them to stop. That turned me off to the bulk foods because even if the store tries to be on top of things, you can't control what some irresponsible people will do.
I know it’s 2years old but I’ve only just found this video. You’ve got SUCH an extensive pantry!! How did you know where everything is? Would you think about doing an updated version?
i love how big your fridge is *drooooools* haha also where do you get nutritional yeast from? I live in Mississauga I can't seem to find it in any grocery stores :(
Hey Lauren, I'm not sure if you've answered this before & my b if you have but you had cat food in your pantry & it reminded me to ask if you feed Snickles vegan food also or just a healthy alternative?
I'm actually curious about the yoso coconut yogurt. I've only ever tried So Delicious Coconut coconut yogurt but I'm afraid of trying other ones as I've found I'm not a fan of soy yogurts. Would you consider doing a video about that?
Astrid Scorzafava Good idea no problem! you can try googling where else to get Kuraidori or you could look up top high quality chef knifes and different price ranges etc. I am sure something will pop up! Enjoy your spring :D
I have a couple of questions on certain items you have. I must know where you get them here in Toronto! 1. Old bay seasoning! I can't seem to find it! 2. Presidents choice vegetarian chicken breast!! The one by my place (Mississauga) and one by my work (Danforth) never have it in stock anymore😢 Thanks for the tour! Your new kitchen is so awesome!💕 I'm a little jealous.. Actually really jealous!😂
+Garret The Vegan Targaryen do they not have it in stock because everyone is buying it because of me ;) haha jk. But seriously that's crazy. I've seen it at every Loblaws or Superstore. OLD BAY is either in the spice aisle or near the seafood section if they have a fresh fish area. I've also purchased that at Loblaws!
+Lauren Toyota probably! Lol I swear everytime I go to loblaws it's always bare and they don't have any in the back! Thanks for the old bay! I'll check next time I'm at loblaws and hopefully they will have the vegetarian chicken breast lol
i noticed you have "poach pods" i think that is what they are called. they are the green silicone things. do you eat eggs or do you have other things you use them for?
Yay, I'm not the only crazy mason jar lady!!! lol I love to use my microplane to zest citrus, or nutmeg for vegan eggnog! So delicious! Also my husband loves his coffee cups that are made to look like lenses! :P
Thats a ton of food! Do you end of throwing a lot of it away? Or do you tend to use them before they go bad since you guys are cooks? : ) Also - what do you guys do with all the leftover you guys make for hotforfood?
Thats a whole lot of cheesecakes haha btw could you talk about how you manage to use everything up before they go bad? i tend to have a problem with that and i hate throwing stuff away.. i dont evem know if this could be answered other than..going to the store more often or sth idk haha 😅
+Desiree S. I don't know, but it doesn't seem to go bad that quickly. Even organic. I also store my greens in those produce plastic bags from the grocery store because it seems to keep them from wilting and getting soggy.
As weird as it may feel to film that, it is very handy for someone like me. I get to see the essentials to a vegan lifestyle, things to keep on hand. So thank you, got my next grocery list for the weekend. Oh and I just found out New Zealand has no Onion powder :( so ima have to ship it in from the states. Planning on making the stuffed pasta shells. Another great video *thumbs up*
+sin no way? No onion powder? Why? just use real onions I guess for some things, but you might need to cook them to bring out the better flavour! Thanks for watching!
WOW! What a wonderfully stocked kitchen :) What do you do with all your plastic bags that you buy fruits and veggies in? Are they recyclable in your area?
Hi Lauren! I have a question for you. I haven't gone vegan yet, but I have been making little changes here and there. I was wondering, what could I use as a substitute for mascarpone? I love (making) tiramisu and that is the part of the recipe where I cant really think of an alternative. Sadly, we don't have deya or gardein where I live (and I dont even know if vegan mascarpone exists) Any tips?
Ok, now I'm intrigued, what do you use ginger syrup for? Yes as you can tell I'm just discovering your channel. Haven't watched all your Hot For Food videos.
I don't know if you will see this or another commentor could answer. You had nuts soaking in the fridge. Can you just leave them soaking in there for awhile with no problem? I always forget to soak them and then I suddenly want them. Would be helpful if it can be done. Just wondering. Thank you in advance.
I think most people still call it a flask but she did call it a Mickey. I know a Mickey as the size of a liquor bottle you buy at the store that would fit in a flask.
QUESTION what do you use the soaked almonds for? the same way you would use soaked cashews? btw slowly converting into a vegan since i saw your channel:) love you!
i would love your recommendation on cheese and fake meat substitues! i'm transitioning into veganism but as a cheese lover i'm afraid i will crave it, what is your recommendation on cheese like fake cheese?
+Diren G. i know this was a question for Lauren but as a former cheese addict turned vegan my biggest suggestion is to try and cut out cheese for a month before trying vegan substitutes. this way, you will forget the taste of cheese by the time you try vegan cheese and you will actually enjoy them. by far the best cheese substitute is Chao cheese by the Field Roast brand, Follow Your Heart is good too. I really don't like Daiya, but it is super popular.
chao cheese from field rose is life. also cream cheese from kite hill. and if you find yourself anything from miyoko stock up because it's nice and fancy. Those are the only three I think merit any extra mention. The other stuff is just okay for me if there's nothing else and I'm dying.
This is great :-) maybe you can do a video about vegan brands/stores/webstores? I live in the Netherlands for example and in Europe it is pretty hard (as far as I can find so far) to buy vegan things like all the nice sauces you just showed. For example liquid smoke.. nowhere to be found ):. I know you have a lot of Canadian brands but maybe you know some good websites or brands that are not just in Canada? Would love a video like that!
I loled at 'worst-er-shire' sauce haha. No hate, we all get it wrong here in England too! It's pronounced 'wouster' :) FYI I LOVE THIS CHANNEL! This is the only vegan blog/channel I fully relate to as this is exactly the type of vegan I am! Lauren, if youre ever in the UK and hit up London I can show you all the awesome vegan spots including (in my opinion) the best vegan bakery in the UK, full of surgery delights ;)

How do you manage your produce? Like eat everything before it goes bad? That's my biggest struggle.
+Desiree S. I don't know, but it doesn't seem to go bad that quickly. Even organic. I also store my greens in those produce plastic bags from the grocery store because it seems to keep them from wilting and getting soggy.

Do you know where you got those containers you keep your spices in? Love your videos! :)

Your kitchen is definitely goals! I'd get fat soo fast. Eating all the yummy food
I don't know if you will see this or another commentor could answer. You had nuts soaking in the fridge. Can you just leave them soaking in there for awhile with no problem? I always forget to soak them and then I suddenly want them. Would be helpful if it can be done. Just wondering. Thank you in advance.
I liked this video before I watched it lol where did you get your spice containers?
+Grace Burns DOLLARAMA!
+Lauren Toyota damn, I live in the UK :( but thanks!
In Canada do they have a different name for flasks to put liquor in ? I believe Lauren called it a Mickey
I think most people still call it a flask but she did call it a Mickey. I know a Mickey as the size of a liquor bottle you buy at the store that would fit in a flask.
+Chelsea Brown oh ya duh. FLASK! haha
is sirracha sauce vegan everywhere in Canada?
So much food! Love it lol
QUESTION what do you use the soaked almonds for? the same way you would use soaked cashews? btw slowly converting into a vegan since i saw your channel:) love you!
+Iman Kashow yes. They were being used for a cheesecake crust that was remaining raw so I soak them.
where do you find vanilla powder in canada?
+Emaan Ahmad bulk store or health store or specialty food store.
Boy do our fridges look similar! Whaaaat oil!! This is why we love you, a vegan UA-camr that uses oil. Don't really want to live without it😋😋😋💜💜💜💜
+Jamie Page brain can't function without it :)
