    After this series is completed. How about one on correctable errors!
    Thanks

    "Repeated violations of the throw-in": I believe this is referring to one specific player, whereas the team technical is for *anyone* violating a second time. I played a game once where one guy just kept violating over and over. I think this is addressing that, whereas all of the team's players could violate once, and each of those would be *team* technicals. A player could not be disqualified for any of those violations (after team warning), but could be for doing it multiple times (because it becomes a personal technical foul).

    How would you administer two players fighting on the court? Double flagrant technicals. Does each team have two free throws? who is ball awarded to on the division line? Does it matter if fight occurs during a play or in a dead ball situation? Thank you. I am devouring these videos, they are awesome!

      No free throws, point of interruption to resume play

    Thank you for this video series. As a new official, could you create a video on administering multiple penalties? For example a personal foul resulting in foul shots and a dead ball technical foul occurring during the same play.

    Question about the section "Failure to immediately pass the ball to an official after a whistle." Does it specifically require possession for the referee to issue a technical? What if a player refuses to pick the ball up off the ground to give it to the official?

      Spirit and intent of the rule is important here. Intent by the player to display digust/resentment or create an actual delay.

    Hey Greg, so regarding 10-4-7 (dead ball contact), it reads "...Intentionally or flagrantly contacting an opponent...", and Rule 4-19-3 (definition of intentional foul) says "An intentional foul is a personal OR TECHNICAL foul that may or may not be premeditated..." My question: is there such a thing as an "intentional technical foul", and if so, how is that different than a "technical foul"?

    I was officiating a game where a player went up and slapped the backboard while on defense. It seemed to be more out of frustration than attempting a block. I gave the player and the teams coach a warning and that I would give the player a technical foul if it happened again. Was this a valid call?

    • @roblewis5912

      No. If it wasn’t a legitimate block attempt, you should have issued a technical foul. No warning.

    Question???when can you give a warning ⚠️ for a technical foul and when is there no warning and goes straight to a technical foul. Thanks in advance.

    Hello, I was 3 step behind guarding the 3 point shooter. I jump towards him and clapped my hands is that technical?

    • @BetterOfficials

      Attempting to distract a shooter in that fashion should not be ruled a Technical Foul.

    Here’s a stupid question: So if a player gets two technical fouls and is disqualified, if they leave the playing area if there is another adult to supervise is there further technical fouls? I’ve heard that the reason that a player is disqualified to the bench is because of a lack of adult supervision.

    • @BetterOfficials

      Players can leave with adults. Say a player is really hurt. Ambulance comes. Refs say no, can't go; can't leave the bench! That would not work.
      Players need to use the bathroom... NOW! They are going.
      But NFHS has obviously had problems with players being unattended, especially after fights or being upset. It is a good rule. It is also good to understand the spirit and intent of the rule. The bench is not a prison. If a parent wants to take their disqualified and upset player home the game officials certainly aren't going to stop them.
      What about a school that has a sports medicine program. They have personnel there to assist players. A player rolls an ankle and needs to be evaluated and re-taped. Player goes to the trainers table to receive that attention.
      There are dozens of scenarios. Common sense should prevail in all.

    NFHS must have taken the face guarding rule from FIBA...the rule reads very similarly: When I was in HS (late 80's- early 90's) face guarding was legal and that's how we were taught. However, for university, I switched to playing FIBA rules and was surprised when I read in the rule book that it wasn't permitted...still got as close as I could with a warning here or there ;~) Love the content even though it's not FIBA based... lets me run through FIBA scenarios in my head since we're not sure when/if we'll be back on the floor in my region of Canada.

      Took many poke in the eye injuries

    • @fromtheoutside
      @fromtheoutside Рік тому +1

      @@psboa In all the years I played, I was poked in the eye more times rebounding than I ever was while having a defender wave their hands near my face...re ZERO. As an official of 35-plus years, I'd have difficulty trying to remember anyone being poked in the eye by a defender that would rise to a "common occurrence"; it simply does not happen that often even when face-guarding was legal. So, while I understand the need for safety, this rule really doesn't protect anyone when most incidences are accidental.

    • @psboa

      It doesn’t take much for NFHS to change a rule.

    • @fromtheoutside
      @fromtheoutside Рік тому

      @@psboa That may be true for certain rules, but there are a host of other rules that should have been changed or never really changed, to begin with; they kind of remind me of the USGA in the way they change rules that no one has a problem with, or won't change others that no one likes, and don't get me started on why shot clocks are not mandatory country-wide ;~) The "cost" excuse has been used since I was in high school and that was 30 years ago.
