Answer to Ram0210 Why don't you start crashing those arguments yourself here if you think they(Prof. De Silva and the likes) are wrong? You obviously understand Sinhala fairly well. Prof. De Silva is accurate when he says there hasn't been a continuous tamil nation in Sri Lanka throughout the history. The consistent culture has been the one built by Sinhala people, and all for very obvious simple anthropological reasons. It is bound to happen for geographical reasons alone. The reasons for a Tamil dialect speaking people's existence in North and East is for simple reasons of migration(voluntary migration as well as forced migration by western invaders and colonials) and isolation from the rest of the mainstream Sinhala culture and the on and off connection with the Tamilnadu culture over the centuries(particularly last 500 or so). Sure that's long enough for them to have a regional identity, not just different from Sinhala people but also different from Tamilnadu Tamils. For Tamils in Jaffna to earn the right to use their language and regional freedom, they need to resort to facts and political pressure, not resort to Tamil nationalism(or 'racism'). Tamil people who wants to come to areas other than North and East better learn Sinhala(both speech and write) and they do. Trying to shove Sinhala down the throats of Jaffna people is where you step into the realm of stupidity. All the Sinhala dominant people can(and should) do is to ensure Tamils in Jaffna get to learn Sinhala while allowing them to use Tamil or English to communicate with the central government and Sinhala central government and Sinhala dominant areas use either Tamil or English translations/translators to communicate with Tamils. Then you can hope Tamils in Jaffna will learn Sinhala and begin to enjoy it in time. Just don't try to shove it down their throat. Most of these stupid issues were created by colonials(if not all the problems in countries like Sri Lanka), but you cannot go back and correct history. All you can do & try to do are to correct the NOW and influence a better and conflict free future. Do not forget, the colonials that created this stupid problem between Jaffna & Colombo did that with the help of Sinhala people themselves. Do not forget that the British queen(or king) did NOT conquer Sri Lankan central Sinhala kingdom. Sinhala people were internally degenerating and handed over their kingdom to British throne voluntarily by colluding with British. Your last king died in south India after he was deported by British. You cannot go back and correct that stupid history. All you can do is to have a good attempt at correcting now and future. Whether you like it or not, Tamil speaking Sri Lankans are there to stay. If the Tamils in Jaffna want to use their own language, you have no choice but facilitate that. Avoid trying to rub their noses on it by sending them your Sinhala rulings in Sinhala language. At least use an English translation with it or you're going to end up fostering another Prabhakaran in Jaffna. Prabhakaran did not drop from the sky. He was created by the stupid people in both Sinhala & Tamil sector, particularly the politicians. And of course Prabhakaran was also a puppet for the new imperialists in the western world, and of course Prabhakaran never knew that or believed that. But, he most certainly left his mark in the island by teaching a valuable lesson to stupid and short sighted politicians on both sides(Sinhala and Tamil) by slaughtering them in both areas for over 30 years. Learn that lesson quickly or risk creating another one like Prabhakaran. The candidates for future Prabhakarans have already being born in Jaffna and Batticaloa, and many more to be born. Provide the right kind of discrimination to Tamils in Jaffna and East, you will get that new Prabhakaran in no time and the cycle of gross violence will continue for another 30 years or so before that Prabhakaran get killed.
Isn't it about time Prof. De Silva change his name? A person who talks about Sinhala Buddism and tradition day and night while sticking to a borrowed Portuguese name is NOT ideal. Anagarika Dharmapala, Amaradeva, etc were born with foreign borrowed names. Sinhala De Silva's, Perera's etc(and other similar foreign names) received their names mainly two ways. One by converting to Christianity during Portuguese(and Dutch and English) rule. The other way is by getting raped by Portuguese soldiers(Sinhala women). If Sinhala people have testicles(Sinhala men) between their legs they should seriously consider adopting Sinhala names to start with, and that goes for Prof. Nalin De Silva as well. Wearing a Western educated title(PhD) is ok, but wearing a foreign first and last name is NOT, particularly for somebody touting Sinhala Buddhist culture. Prof. De Silva may want to start by shafting his surname down the sewer and then consider changing his first name as well. This goes for many of the other Sinhala Buddhist noise makers as well. If you give a damn about your Sinhala Buddhist culture, start adopting Sinhala names. If you don't have testicles between your legs to do that, borrow a testicle from some of the former Tamil tigers that you're still holding behind bars and stitch it up between your legs, so you can have some courage & manhood like Prabhakaran who managed to die fighting to death, along with his wife and children(regardless of Prabhakaran being a foolish puppet of western powers). If you want to revive the dying Sinhala Buddhism, start by changing your silly sounding old foreign christian and european names. At best, it is pathetic to stick to foreign christian names while shouting about Sinhala Buddhism. Very few to no Tamil Buddhists in Sri Lanka or South India has christian names.
Mr.Nalin your talking too much non sence. You should tell these things in english, you will see how your arguments are crashed. Im listening similar arguments from Tamil scholars in Tamil nadu too. Your talking about vaag vidya.which is our Tamil Saivam Traditions too.
