We did not in this video. This was showcasing a relatively inexperienced landowner that performing TSI is very manageable. We have dozens of videos in our TSI and habitat management playlist detailing the things you mentioned. Also, our prescribed fire playlist would probably have some videos that you would fine helpful.
I've tried this on 3 different places some bigger , some smaller . Never had 1 do what I wanted and yes I did burns on 2 of them . I do stack brush when I cut . Don't own much land so don't want to do it all in a year ??
Yes and typically you don't burn clear cut or select cut areas. Idea is to remove large tree canopy (remove shade) to allow sun to the ground. Tons of fresh new green growth will emerge from stumps, root mass, & literally the forest floor seed bank that has been laying dormant in the shade. Regenerative growth is what deer need and seek. Best part is stem count significantly increases with all the new regrowth which can create outstanding bedding areas. It's all about stem count, browse, & bedding. Removing mature trees within a forest can make a huge impact in short time. Have a state Forester come evaluate your timber and consult. The Forester I had out to my land is a state employee and 100% free of charge having him out.
Yes. You can manage TSI areas with herbicide or mechanically setting them back every few year. It all depends on the site and your goals for it. Typically we would introduce fire at some point to set back woody plants and help control other species. Again, it really depends on the site and your goals for that site.
Awesome video! Can you do the same thing in pines? I have 30 acres of natural regrowth pines about 10 years old.
We have shot some similar videos in a pine setting. Checkout our TSI and prescribed fire playlists!
You never mentioned the species of trees to cut or any specific shrubs to keep.

Yessir!
Good stuff guys. Get educated on tree species as well as invasives. So many need cut-so many don’t!
INaturalist is a great app to have on your phone.

Is TSI worth it if you’re not going to burn?
