QOTD: ⚡I would like to hear from someone who owns and uses this wallet. I wasn't too impressed, it was just a bit "off" in how it works and presented itself.
I think they put Moneyclip not in the middle because the on the other side is the card slot. You see left above the card slot some scratch the leather and when the money clip would be in the middle it would damage the cards.
I owned the Kohlesack myself cuz I was searching for a really minimal carry wallet but for me, the Kohlesack wasn't thought to the end. I had my problems the main card slot because it wasn't right at the end and my card had started to fall out of the wallet. Also, this isn't "Feinstes Rindleder" definitely so I have asked the support where they produce that thing and I got never ever an answer back. I think Germany has a lot better wallet like the Aviators or the whole Donbolso product which are the Good German engineering itself
They're coming, but it's about one a month as it takes me 2-4 weeks to carry each wallet. With COVID I haven't been getting out as much as usual, so it's a little slower.
The review is coming! After a 4 month wait it finally showed up via post....both Kan (the owner of Kamino) and myself were amazed how long it took to get here. Mail has been flowing really slowing international, but this one was exceptionally bad.
Thats great! Cant wait for a review. Wow 4 months? That is really slow, but still understandable considering the circumstances. I, too, have experienced long delivery times, but still not as long as 4 months.
There is a reason for the RFID protection. In Europe, all cards come with RFID chips that allow for wireless payments. It's good to be protected against those who may try to take money from your card, contactless, without you being aware.
Those chips are "chip and pin" systems which produce a random encryption code between the card and the receiving "tap" device. There nothing that can sniff it successfully on the fly. You'd need a $1m+ worth of equipment to decrypt the algorithm on the chip and be able to apply it to physical use, it's just not worth it as the CC companies will shut the card down the moment they suspect fraud. HOWEVER, if someone is still worried, get an RFID card, instead of having it built into the wallet. A good example is the Popov Gauntlet RFID card (bit.ly/2ocDkCW), you can move it from wallet to wallet with no problem.
@@walletopia Yes, but up to a certain amount, you can make a contactless payment without entering your pin or signature, with only having the card close enough to a POS terminal(said tap n pay). It's true that the said amount isn't usually very large by default and most banks offer a sms information system that sends a text on your phone every time you use your card and you can block it if you see unauthorized payments. Still, some people will go the extra mile for security, I guess.
The pin code and/or signature are mutually exclusive to the technology interaction. The pin code and/or signature are used for larger purchase amounts for recourse by the merchant on the buyer if they need to pursue anything legal. The chip and pin between the card and receiving/approving device stays the same regardless of the amount being charged.
@@emilianstefan4424 They can and if they want to for peace of mind, it's cool. My only issue is don't ruin a wallet by insisting it has to have RFID material in it, that's pure marketing crap. Get an RFID card you can put into any wallet and get an incredible wallet, not limited by the RFID pitch.
reminds me of the Forrest and Harrold wallet. I do like how thi one folds in comparison but i don't think it would be something i would buy. Im not a big fan of having a stack of cards like that in my wallet.
don't like how they put like 5 cards into the slot just to show it holds 5 cards, already stretching out the material. what if you only want to put 2 cards there and now its loose and cards will fall out.
Thomas Long 2 cards was just an example. I carry 4 cards but that doesn’t mean I’d put them all in that pocket. Either way they stretched out the leather when it ruins it for the customer
I hate how they stretched out the inner card slot, I like the wallet but I only carry four cards at max 😫 very disappointing that they’d stretch it out
The polymer UK notes will be a bit rubbish in that money clip. They don’t stay folded very well and want to slide out of everywhere 😆 It’s an interesting design but don’t get that money clip position either, very strange. 🤔 (Edited to correct my EU note comment)
The dimensions and design are really similar to Bellroy Slimsleeve. From the usability and aesthetic perspective, the Bellroy eats this one alive no problem.
@@walletopia While my eyes are rolling over the port wallet and the topsider quickdraw, I enjoy the Slim Sleeve more every day, don't know why to be honest!
I may review them in the future, but I don't now due to 1) Everyone's aware of them due to their global brand and advertising, 2) fewer people would actually buy one, either due to cost and/or they're smart enough to not be driven by brand, and 3) they're incredibly expensive for value or construction. I can buy 10 wallets for review for one of theirs. Their cost is driven first by the brand name with quality second. I don't fault designer brands, they know who they market to and do it well. I find that our community is looking for wallets focused around quality, uniqueness and innovation, while helping expand the exposure of good makers.
The clip is offset not to damage the card I wish someone would make a wallet with card slots on both sides like this. Secrid is too thick with two hardcase containers. I think. I got like 12-14 cards and just want something simple and light.
Hi Stig, yes, that offset appears to be the only logical reason why, but if they did design testing I wonder if the offset clip or an offset thumb push slot would have looked more odd. The offset messes with visual balance expectations.
What's the best wallet for if I want a travel pass area that uses NFC? I just need a wallet with one card slot for the outside for oyster card in London. All the other cards can be inside.
I would recommend going to explore.walletopia.info and using the filters to drill down into a wallet that would do what you're talking about, there are a number that can meet your needs.
Haha, I couldn't even get this wallet into my pocket. It was designed to such tight dimensions that cards are difficult to access even in the designated slot. The money clip isn't tight enough so money, like you said, flops around. Also notice the money clip damages the leather on the opposite side. Not a great wallet, and I think you're generous with a 27 out of 50. But hey, what do I know, i'm just a crazy motherfucker to dumb motherfuckers.
😂 oh yes, I wasn’t very impressed either, it seems like the wallet was only half baked when they decided to send it to manufacture. As I look, the lowest scoring wallet ever is 25, so this is close, but I probably was too kind.
Thanks for another great review! There's a Kickstarter closing in three days about a wallet disguised as a book that you might find interesting! kck.st/2ZMp827

I've had the same wallet for the last 20 years. It's practically folding trash. I'm still unsure if I want to by a new wallet. Lol
Twenty years of not thinking about it. That can be good! Time to find your next 20 year wallet!

walletopia how exactly does it ruin a wallet?
I think it will work very good for a very minimalist carry. Mostly cards an maybe take the clip out and use one of the pockets for a few bills
Good thinking, there's always a way to adjust it to work.
btw, "Kohlesack" in german is kinda slang for "money sack" :P
Good to know, thanks!
Could you please review the shevrov sv carbon fiber wallet on amazon. I would like to maybe see a comparison of it and the ridge wallet
Mark, what wallet do you have?
I’m currently carrying the Dango A10 for the next carry test video.
When are you going to review the airo stealth razor wallet ?
It's in the next batch so it'll hit in about 3 weeks.

Yes, there's something about having cards in their own slot versus stacked which can accelerate wear and tear.
don't like how they put like 5 cards into the slot just to show it holds 5 cards, already stretching out the material. what if you only want to put 2 cards there and now its loose and cards will fall out.
Exactly what I was wondering. If somebody buys this for a true minimalist wallet, they're not likely to have that many cards anyway.
Yes, if you wanted to carry less, you'd be screwed as they've already stretched it to handle 5.

Euros are made out of cotton mixed paper. Romania is the only EU country that uses polymer banknotes.
Emilian Stefan - thank you for correcting me. I will change my comment to suit 😀👍🏻
@@Richard_Barnes No problem.
That off centered money clip is a no go, and how secure is it? You look like you removed it easier than cards from the back pocket.
It was very easy to remove. It wouldn’t fall out, but it doesn’t take much force to push it out.
wow, very cool !

The Slim Sleeve is such a well balanced wallet it just works. It's a testament to the design as it's copied all over the place.
This is something that reminds my iClip... But i still prefer mine for full compactness :-)
I would use back slot for holding a tracking card.
