Unfortunately, during my visit to the Intrepid, their iconic Concorde that they usually have on display on a nearby pier was under repair! I’ll have to revisit someday soon 🤔

I was actually on the museum when I went to nyc very nice tour, it was so cool seeing such iconic aircraft as the a12, f4, f14, Concorde… up close. They also had an expo about star treck near the space shuttle, it was amazing to see all that living history at the same place. I also did the tour of the USS Growler, the submarine next to the Intrepid, really enjoyed my trip to nyc.

Hey! I am a New Yorker, and I have been here countless times, great video! I def recommend going back when they bring the concord back from its short restoration. I got to go inside it! Also next time check out the lower decks, there is a lot there too! Great vid!

The legendary Pigeon 69a, a marvelous feat of engineering. It's almost organic. Top speed: 92.5 mph. Released: at the beginning of time. The Pigeon 69a has the old wing flap technology that increases lift, the don't require engines! The have hollow structures and feathers for less weight! They fly around in groups doing surveillance over NYC, London, Paris, Venice, and more! They are also known as, "Sky Rats". They refuel on bread or any other possible foods to eat, they have experienced almost 360 degree cameras. SO ADVANCED! Much WOW!

Fun fact: the interprid museum is built on new york's pier 86, which was built to recieve ships of the united states lines that would dock between transatlantic crossings. Some of these ships are the SS America, SS Manhattan, SS Washington and the infamous SS united states. After the united states lines cessed passenger service to focus on cargo, the pier was closed down until it was hollowed out and partially demolished to accomodate the museum. Pier 86 was also built alongside piers 88, 90 and 92, part of the same complex. Nowdays 88 and 90 are still active as a joint cruise terminal, that's why you can see a disney cruise ship peeking out in a few parts of the video.

I have been to both and i can recommend both!

The one plane that no one talks about is that Kfir.
That's the ONLY one in the US on display, and I believe the museum bought it shortly after the end of the leasing agreement between the US and Israel for the 25 total Kfir C.1/Canards.
That specific one served with the US Marine Corps from 1986-1989 as Buno 999764, specifically squadron VMFT-401 "Snipers".
The 25 total that were leased were split in-between both Navy and Marine Corps (12 going to USN via squadron VF-43 Challengers at NAS Oceana in Northern Virginia, the remaining 13 going with Marine squadron VMFT-401 Snipers at MCAS Yuma in Arizona).
Before being shipped from Israel, all the weaponry and wiring was stripped out since these aircraft were to be used as adversaries for Dissimilar Air Combat Training for the rest of their lives.
Some more interesting design elements to note: the Kfir never actually had a radar (unless you count a few of the testbeds that came up in the mid-late 80s), seeing as the Arabian Desert climates that Israeli aircraft would be fighting in remained mostly clean. Thus, all the Kfir really needed was a radar rangefinder for air targets. The whole "no radar is needed for this environment" thing was also the reason why the Dassault Mirage 5 was even created (it was designed as sort of a lighter Mirage III with no radar meant more for fighter/bomber duties, as opposed to an interceptor like the prior Mirage IIICJ "Shahak" Israel had acquired), as that variant was designed to Israeli specifications as a fighter-bomber (however an arms embargo prevented sales of the Mirage V to Israel in the late 60s, thus begins the story of the Nesher).
During the first uses of the original Kfir by Israeli pilots around 1975-1976, there were a lot of complaints about the aircraft not being nearly as agile as the prior Nesher/Shahaks they were used to. Thus, IAI and the Haifa Technological Institute (Technion) began work on a number of improvements to the base airframe. As the Kfir currently stood, the only real changes between it and the Nesher were a slightly shortened and widened fuselage to fit the license-built J79-17 engine (which replaced the SNECMA Atar), dorsal cooling scoop at the base of the tailfin, widened air intakes, and some changes to the shape of the nosecone, as well as a few minor structural mods to solidify the design. By 1977, IAI and Technion had come up with dogtoothed leading edges (which would act like wing fences), canards on either side of the air intakes, and small square strakes on either side of the nose (improve nose authority in turns, and at high AoA). Unfortunately, A lot of these improvements were too intensive to be put onto already-existing airframes, thus a NEW program was initiated for a stopgap solution until the new Kfir series with these mods could enter service (that being the C.2). Smaller-span bolt-on canards, as well as similar rectangular strakes (also bolt-on) were created, and thus the new Kfir C.1 was born (also referred to as Kfir Canard, Kfir Gderot, and the ever-popular designation in US service: F-21A Lion). Sometime around 1979 (when the C.2s had first entered service), they went through a minor modernization process, I believe adding in a Radar Warning System, as well as Countermeasures Dispensers. They would be mainly used in the ground-attack role (I think like 1-2 squadrons of C.2s were used for Air Superiority for a short time), and would be fully retired by 1984 (which is where the US officially leased the 25 Kfirs for adversary-usage...)

I’m from Rhode Island and I’ve visited a couple times, it’s amazing, also another thing there is an amazing pizza joint just down the street called the square pie guys they make awesome food. Also if you’re a teen and like aircraft you should look into Civil air patrol, I just flew a plane in the air for a bit last Sunday.
