Thank you so much for that, Tom! Doug is an institution to the community and an incredible Gentleman! His treasure of knowledge helped me out more than once! And I'm glad, that he's willing to share that in the most interesting conversations, we had over the last years! Thanks again Tom! Hope, you're doing well! Let me know, if there is something you need, from this side of the pond...I gonna send it to Doug..lol Take care! Mark
I've said the same, but he likes the personal scale of the existing operation. Didn't capture it on camera, but he's now the top-selling bricks and mortar outlet for Laudisi (Peterson and Savinelli, among others). So, even without a Web presence, he's doing well from a mercantile point of view. -Tom
Pipe smokers as a general statement and across the board are the greatest people ever. What is it about that someone can smoke tobacco out of a peice of wood that makes that statement so true? Simply the thoughtfulness that pipe smoking produces I suppose. It's hard to remain prideful, arrogant or haughty while being that still (but it can be done lol) but the reflection of who we are, the thought of the outcomes of what we've done and perhaps a little sadness because of how we may have treated someone cross in the past produces a high caliber individual or shall I say, knowing that we're not "all that"........ (shrug). Maybe that has something to do with it. Thankyou for going out of your way to make this video. Greg
Always great when you bring us east coasters for a visit to Cargo Hold and what a nice gesture of appreciation .... Hope you are on the mend and feeling better .... pleasant smokes
Absolutely generous of you Tom. I DO remember the Red Rapparee video from years ago. That's what persuaded me to purchase some. The video from 2013 or earlier?? Very knowledgeable gentleman. The nostalgia of this tin & the stories shared of the 70s, are bittersweet. A different time. Thanks Tom
Greetings Tom, What a wonderful tobacconist you have there. W.D. & H.O. Wills had a factory in Bristol, England. They built the Wills' Memorial Building at the University in the City. One of their most famous brands of cigarettes was Wills Woodbine, (named after the wild flower) and these were very popular and quite strong. The British troops smoked them in the trenches during World War l, and an army chaplain, Rev Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy M.C., would give these cigarettes to wounded soldiers. He became known as 'Woodbine Wilie' and was very popular!
Very cool visit and video. What a awesome tobacconist. I love Capstan Blue and Yellow. Never thought of "making" my own "Green". A new subscriber from Chicagoland. Take Care.
Well Tom, That Capstan looks delicious, smoking a piece of history. Brings back good memories seeing the village of Poulsbo and the shop. Would like to get back there sometime. Thanks for sharing this and say hello to Doug for me. Take care, Corey
The Wills company was the first mass producers of cigarettes in England in the late 1700s and a founding member of the imperial tobacco group. Great to have found a tin capstan and even better that you shared it with someone who will appreciate it well done I take my hat off to you sir 👍👍👍🦡
Glad to find another tobacco history buff, yeah Wills I believe made a fortune with cigarettes back in the day, although I think I got the relationship wrong in the video, I believe it was a father/son team rather than two brothers. Sounds like you may have a comment on that? Keep puffin.
@@dougowen9873 from what I can remember I think when they started it was Watkins &wills, then became Lilley and wills before it became wills and son but I’m unsure of the dates so I may have it wrong. It was good to see a traditional tobacconists shop behind you I could spend hours just looking around a shop as yours we have very few now in England thank you sir 👍👍👍🦡
Hi 👋🏻 parsimonious piper. Ethan was giving words of encouragement to fellow YTPC members and left a link to your page. So here you go buddy a little support for you and your channel. Hoping you have a great weekend and plenty of great bowl’s of tobacco, all the very best pal, take care.🙏🏻
That is a treasured find indeed, great video Tom. I hope you both will enjoy this fine tobacco and many others in best health. Be well and stay safe my friend.
David, I think she was just mesmerized by the Cargo Hold displays - that there could possibly be such a store in the world that would solve all her dad/husband/brother gift needs! Seriously, I think I was just bulling my way through there and she probably caught me in her peripheral vision and didn't want to risk getting bowled over! =Tom
that capstan looks so different to the one we smoke at 2021 😍 wish i have a time machine to purchase some good tobacco back in the days. thanks a lot for this video 👍 cheerio from switzerland
The Macbaren product is pretty close to the old Wills blend but only after you age it for awhile. I have got a few tins left of the original reissue by Macbaren from 2013 and after 8 years in the tin it is fairly close to the original taste I recall from lthe 1970's. Keep puffin.
Looks like the kind of place that would need to put up with me till closing time and shove me out the door to close up. If I'm ever out that way I will be stopping in.
Having access to vaccines makes all the difference in getting back to 'normal' or some semblance of, Richard. Did you notice all the folks eating al fresco on the street, formerly street parking - that may be something that sticks with us. I still haven't sat down inside a restaurant ... or flown on a plane ... -Tom
Doug Owen. If you Google "Cargo Hold Poulsbo" you'll find his shop, though he doesn't have much of an e-presence. I think he's happy with personal interaction. -Tom

So great to see you and Doug get together. What a magnificent treasure you found there!! You done good, brother!!!
That little town always reminds me of Solvang in California.
Zip codes began around 1962.
Can’t wait to hear his review. Happy smoking!
Excellent vid guys. Thanks a lot. Have a great week ahead.
That was absolutely awesome Tom!!!!
Thanks for joining us! It's always interesting to have Doug talk about historical aspects of tobacco and pipes.
-Tom
The history is fun to hear. Tom you should do a short interview like this from every pipe store you go to. Maybe hosting a podcast is in your future.
Such a nice gesture Tom.
Well done mate.
i really enjoyed this video. He needs to get a website so us pipe smokers can support him from across the country and world!

Bet you'll love it, and Doug is quite the colorful raconteur.

What a great store , love it 😍
It’s good to see you getting around Tom. Take your time and go slow.

@0:22, caught a tourist frozen mid stride? Enjoyed your video, and an apparent capture of the "simulated world" theory!

Parabéns polo vídeo fantástico e uma pena que aqui o Brasil não tem uma loja dessa.
I wish I had a local B&M like that near me. The one I have is a cigar snob with pipes being and afterthought.
wish i had a shop like this near me.
Wonderful and priceless all at once.

It's a toy store for grown men!
-Tom
I hope he breaks that out on his birthday and enjoys that special gift .
Is this what it is like to go outside and speak to people? I’ve forgotten...

Whats his name
Those 'crystals' are salt, in fact.
Whats the real guys name? For me
Doug Owen. If you Google "Cargo Hold Poulsbo" you'll find his shop, though he doesn't have much of an e-presence. I think he's happy with personal interaction.
