      how did you study for the exam taken after the scribe training

  • @taycheyanne
    @taycheyanne 5 років тому +60

    I started as an ER scribe on the 6th and we use cerner. I’ve worked 4 shifts so far . It’s very overwhelming. I feel like I’ll never get it down. But I’m trying so hard I’m studying doing a lot of research on how to have the perfect HPI ; the do’s and don’ts . I’m going to be really scared on my first shift alone

    • @baythepa-s9027
      @baythepa-s9027  5 років тому +40

      Taylor Martin you will be fine! my typical HPI is as follows. “chief complaint”. ___ y/o m/f patient with history of ______ presents with complaints of “chief complaint” x however many days/weeks. *if it’s a chest pain/abdominal pain I say patient presents with complaints of non-radiating chest pain/abdominal pain or chest pain/abdominal pain that radiates to **_____* Associated symptoms include _____________. Patient notes taking ______ without relief of pain. And then my last sentence is usually the pertinent negatives. hope this helps! if a patient was seen by PCP or previously in the ED I place that usually after my first sentence cause that’s important. just keep studying and stay confident. it’s normal to feel the way you do! let me know if you have any questions.

      BAY THE PA-S yes very helpful , Thankyou so much! What about the MDM i have such a hard time there as well

    • @baythepa-s9027
      @baythepa-s9027  5 років тому +8

      Taylor Martin what part in particular? always double check this section no matter what. when I first started, I kept a sheet with patient’s stickers on them and wrote next to their name what was ordered by the provider so I knew what needed to be pulled into the chart. however, even if I knew or was pretty positive there were no labs ordered, i got into the habit of hitting it anyway just in case. sometimes that saved me. also, the sheet is a good way to keep track of patients and the charts that still need to be sent. whenever I sent a chart to the provider, I would cross off that patient’s sticker so i knew I was done. felt good to do that & also a sense of accomplishment

    Hi Bayflo! I enjoyed your video. It was actually pretty funny because I think those tips we as scribes have learned them the hard way. When you said get a mouse...I cracked up laughing because it seemed so simple but saved my life!!!! Everything she said seemed simple enough but you will see it is crucial facts! To Baylo I think this is great Ive been looking for scribe community to just share anecdotes and questions and tips and tricks. This position is so under featured. Keep it up! Much love! -V

    Hey, thanks for the making the video :)
    I get the point of not using Notepad, but in my view it's to avoid possible confusion: you type down a physical exam but don't note whose it is because you're thinking that's my next thing I'll do. And then scribe life happens and you're doing a code, you forget which patient that was for. The second problem would be losing information when the laptop goes down unexpectedly, because group policies applied to these managed laptops do not allow write access for your user - can't save notepad contents to the hard drive.
    That being said, I disagree with not using Notepad, or any other HIPAA compliant temporary text pad, for anything other than surplus information thrown at you. A simple problem I have all the time is: I'm trying to finish the chart for the last admit or d/c home, but we're already walking to the next patient's room. As I finish my chart, I'm listening to the provider - patient interaction. I just do a quick alt-tab to notepad and type up the HPI as I would in the chart itself:
    with mother c/o sore throat, decreased appetite, and fever with onset x2 days ago. Highest recorded temperature was 101.2 F, rectally @ 0830. She states pt was seen by Pediatrician x1 day ago, and was dc home with ... blah blah blah
    Then once I'm done sending the previous chart, I can open the current pt's chart, simply cut the text from notepad and paste it into the chart. Clean notepad, no confusion, no information loss, no "double work" which was the same line I was given during training.

    I just got hired as a medical scribe, I start in a few days. I’ve been taking generals at a community college now, and now I think I’m going to pursue in pharmaceuticals. Someone told me about this medical scribe job and this will help me get a jumpstart in getting a career when I finish pharmacy school in about 6-7 years. I’m super nervous, I’ve never done anything like this before I was never interested in the medical field, we’ll see how it goes and I hope I do well.

    • @BaniBani_1998
      @BaniBani_1998 4 роки тому +1

      Eva Stood I take morning classes, then I usually have about 2 hours before I have work and I use those 2 hours to do homework and study then I head straight to work. Weekends are great for me also, but I take 2 days off from work. You just have to figure out a good schedule between your classes and work. It took a while for me to find a good schedule and I finally did.

    Hi, thanks for the video- I'm a scribe at a small clinic and we don't have EHR's, we're old fashioned paper, so I create each note from scratch using templates. It's my first gig as a scribe and I wonder is this a common way to do it? Also, is it common for scribes to assist the doctors during patient visits while scribing? Thank you!
