    Speaking as someone who was active in Tory circles in the past, I think the Newsnight report fails to bring out the degree to which a majority of those acquainted with Archer were content to enjoy his lavish parties while regarding him as a chump and buffoon -- disbelieving that he was capable of writing a book until he produced one and then wondering by what process his plot ideas were transmuted into literature. Others of us found the toleration extended to Archer was to the deep discredit of the Party (to which I no longer belong). Archer was never worthy of benevolence; he was, at heart, totally amoral and a nasty piece of work.

    Archer is a serial liar.
    Yes, it was unfortunate he had to go to prison, but be under no doubt that he brought ALL of this on himself.

      Unless they are victims of a gross miscarriage of justice, or are given a too harsh a sentence, don't all prisoners?

    Archer was released in 2003 he didn’t even serve his four year sentence and now he’s out he’s gone onto write more books, earn more millions, got a job on a tv show in 2006 (can’t remember the name but it was presented by Richard Madeley), keep his Lord title and gone on like nothing happened.
    In way Lord Archer had the last laugh so he got away with it again!

    There's a curious parallel with John Le Carre, whose father, like Archer's, was a successful conman. The big difference of course being that Le Carre is one of the UK's greatest writers, while Archer's books are piles of steaming crap. Archer's pomposity is hilariously out of proportion to his true ability. When he was in the nick, he wrote using his prison number, as if to indicate, like other writers who have done this, that he was an innocent, persecuted political prisoner. Then there's his threat to a critical journalist: 'Just you wait till I'm mayor', like a playground bully. That such a self-deluding, narcissistic asshole could get to the position he did speaks volumes about the nature of British politics.

    Since Johnathan Aitken was by that time a convicted felon, how did he get a US Entry Waiver into the united states? And what the heck was he doing in Washington anyway?

    The yorkshire ripper could have raised monies for political parties and he would have been rewarded with a knighthood and a bigger hammer. Politics is a murky game and most wouldn't or couldn't lower themselves to enter.

      @@jemshadow123It's immensely cumbersome to do. That's why knighthoods get rescinded but not peerages. Joseph Kagain (Wilson's gannex man) is another example.

    The Anglia Shares issue simply defies all logic - Archer's combined profits from all the book deals up to that time were tens-of-millions of pounds. So why would Jeffery Archer use insider-trading information to gain a measly 80k? By trading Anglia shares - a company in which his own wife was a director - he risked not only damaging himself but incriminating his wife - destroying her career and reputation? All that risk for chump-change? Just doesn't make sense.

    • @TelexToTexel
      @TelexToTexel 3 роки тому

      But did Boris make any libel suit concerning his "doings" in this regard? If Jeffery Archer had laid low when the tabloids wrote their stories back in the 80's instead of making court cases, he would be home free. The whole point is that Archer lied in court.

    I strongly dislike: tricky Politicians and Cricket. Jeffrey Archer is politician and he loves
    Cricket...
    I say this anachronistic colonial, goofy game should be phased out! This is how it can be done: ADIDAS, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche will donate 999 million footballs to Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. In 5-10 years one of these countries will qualify for the FIFA World Cup. And that will be the end of Le Cricket. "Sticky wicket, The Ashes" who needs it?
    Think about your children and protect them from cricket. You can get rid of the FUCKING Pounds (LBS!) and Helmut von Fahrenheit, as well. GO METRIC Think about your children. Johnnie de Bangkok CarSanook Media Thailand 🇹🇭The only “Cricket” we know here is the insect.
