  • I bought a patio table with 12x12 tile top inserts. I need to use an umbrella with this table, and couldn't find "pre-made" tiles with a hole in the center.... so what else? DIY.... If you have the tools this takes about 30 minutes at most. In my case I did have to order a 2" diamond bit hole cutter... it cost me about $10 on eBay. While it may not be the best quality, it will do the job with ease.

Hi! So to confirm, the hole in the 2x4 is drilled before it goes on top of the tile? Is the 2x4 to keep the bit from moving around on the tile?

Yep, I drilled the hole completely through the 2x4 before starting... then put it on the tile... centered.... stepped on it so it wouldn't move, and then set upon drilling... I actually mentioned this in the last minute of the video.... UPDATE: If I had to do it over, I would get a 2 1/4 hole bit.. because although the umbrella fits fine.. I ordered a plastic "collar" to go inside the hole.. but it does not fit.... I can force it in.. but a slightly larger hole would be slightly better.

Great video👍🏽 Can you use the same tool to drill through a metal table?

I haven’t tried using this “hole bit” to drill through a metal table. I think I would try a dremel first.
