  • I understood how to make SCRATCH QUALITY BLOCKS for ship modelling in an easy and simple way!
    In this video, I show you how to make two useful and simple tools that will make your life easier when creating blocks from scratch for your model ship.
    If you're interested in other type of blocks and techinques for ship modelling check out my new videos here below:

    02:55 - Making the tool for the largest face of the block
    04:32 - Shaping the block

    Clearly you could also use just the milling machine, but you won't be as fast as using these two engraving tools. The problem is that with the MF70 (amzn.to/3zuGT7R) you won't be able to engrave the whole length of the strip.

    This is a pretty good way to make blocks. Now I only need 60 of this size and about 40 of this other size and another 50 of various sizes. 😮

    Great work and really clever tool making. But what if you have to make several hundred? Still, I’m impressed

    Interesting video. Many thanks! I was wondering why you make all these scratching tools when it seems like you could’ve used your drill as a mill. Was that considered and if it was, why was the set of scratching tools preferred?

      @Tagliamare  6 місяців тому +1

      These are two option you can use, two equivalent methods in the toolbox of a modeller. Having said that not everyone has the drill.
      You can also decide to use the scratching tool just on the sides of the block where the inlet is smaller, so you don’t have to change the drill setting

    Just a thought from the peanut gallery: Why not make those tools double-ended so one tool does two different sizes?

    • @Tagliamare
      @Tagliamare  2 роки тому +1

      It's a great thought actually. I think it might actually be safer (for me) to have just one working end

      Any thoughts on how to make mast rings for model ships?
      I want to scratch build a steampunk Airship with sails with rigging for its Propellers.

      Have you tried brass?

    • @bearshield7138
      @bearshield7138 2 роки тому

      Now that I have seen your “How to make 5 Metal Parts for your ship model” I am doing a complete redesign of the Propellers and I will probably use both brass and copper. I may try very light sheet steel too. I do not know If a can manipulate a piece that small.
      Thank you for your videos and your help

    Great work ! Where can you find ebony wood ?

    • @Tagliamare
      @Tagliamare  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Etienne =) Very nice question. You can find those high quality and noble essences in specialised lumber mills. Unfortunately, I am aware that it's hard to find a wood supplier that is close to your place or that is available for shipment and that has different essences as well. For example, here in Italy one of the most stocked lumber mill is Segheria Leati (I pasted you the link below) and I know many ship modellers order the wood from there.

      Once you do the first 5 or 6 block you’ll become quite fast :) I can make 1 in 5minutes. Nobody’s running after me for that eheh
