    Insane value. A year ago, I was looking into making a camper and I was taken aback by the expense of a suitable battery capacity. Now I can buy a simple 1024wh battery and this device and use my car as a generator! That's great :D No need for solar and strictly speaking, no need for extra batteries for a simple trip. No need to stop by cafes or hotels to charge the batteries. Diesel will do it all, without additional expenses. Nice!

    Wow! Great content and you actually reply to questions. Something I haven’t seen confirmed is how fast can it charge in reverse? Example Delta 3 plus (plugged into shore power) charging a connected 12v LiFePO4 battery attached thru the Ecoflow 800 watt alternator charger? Subscribed

      One cool feature in the system, is that there is a slider that allows you to go between 200 and 800 W, whether in forward or reverse charging mode. In reverse mode, it doesn’t get to as high of a voltage as I would normally use with LiFePO4, but it can charge at 800w.

    If you attach it to a separate battery, not the one specific to the car, what would be the steps to set that up?

      Just connect + and - to the battery, exactly like you would for the tow vehicle battery. Then I lower the input voltage from 13 to 12 in the app. This allows you to draw most of the battery, it’s set to 13 from factory to start when the alternator starts, this isn’t needed when you’re just connecting to the battery.

    I have a 1600 nissan micra. Can i use this charger to charge a delta pro without damaging the alternator?

      What year is your micra?
      The alternator charger has the capability of putting 800 W into your Delta pro. This can be around 60 amps from the alternator.
      Many vehicles can handle this with little to no trouble. Depending on the age of the micra, some have 120a alternators, with larger sizes available- while some of the older models had a 50a alternator.
      While I wouldn’t use one of the older models, the newer w 120a would be fine. It’s best to use the device while you’re traveling at normal speeds. Air is moving through your engine compartment, helping to cool things down and the RPMS are higher. No matter what vehicle I was using, I would make an effort to shut the device off if you’re in traffic or city driving.
      Hope this helps, fine to use with a newer model Micra. You can look up the size of the alternator that came with your vehicle, but I would make sure that it’s at least 100 A.

    would this work with a Spod device if the eco flow alternator was hooked up to the spod rather then that battery terminals?

      You would have to make sure there’s a pass-through that can handle over 70 amps. It might only draw 60 A off the battery, but you wouldn’t want to fry a port and get magic smoke

    What is the benefit of pouring the power back and forth between the battery and the power station?

      The battery is very cheap. You can get an enormous battery for a fraction of the price of a power station.
      The power station gives you four more options to use, and has built-in solar charging . If you get a power station with a huge capacity, it becomes very heavy.
      The advantage is having a lightweight, versatile portable power station that you can move around and use and charge where you need to . A large battery bank can stay in one place. Having a device that can quickly efficiently move capacity from one to another makes this possible.

    So the solar feed the ecoflow, ecoflow to alternator to 12v battery. When the ecoflow is 100% does it pass thru to charge the 12v or its drawing the main EF unit. Counting towards its battery life cycle. Another question is. Is it worth it to get 2 delta 2 max refub. $1400 or 1 delta3+ and 12v battery?

      It does not pass through directly to the 12 V battery. The alternator charger will draw on the EF and charge the battery until it’s full. The solar will move through the charge control controller, and charge the battery in the EF. Unless you had an enormous, solar array, likely impossible, your EF would never get to 100% while discharging 800 W to a 12 V battery.
      Marketing and bad info from content creator have contributed to a fear on battery cycling . You will never run into an issue with a lifepo4 battery on a PPS. The components which go bad, or almost always the inverter, charge controller, or some firmware which ultimately bricks your power station. All of these people obsessing about battery fatigue, I have very little real world experience. You can 1c cycle these battery thousands of times, and with normal cycle rate, probably 8000 times before they fatigue 20% (they’re still usable then). You will never be able to get that many cycles on one of these power stations without everything else breaking first.
      This is a long way of saying, despite what you hear, you can ignore battery fatigue with lifepo powered stations. The solar charge controllers and inverters will burn out years before the battery.

    Would be great if this was integrated into Home Assistant. Rules to switch charging direction based on events, or timing etc. Then would be less manual process, though its pretty simple to switch in the app.

    How do you change the settings in the app if your car has a smart alternator

      Same settings for smart alternator, nothing different in the app. Some folks have found that there is a different place to attach the negative in vehicles with smart alternators. Instead of connecting to the battery negative, there is a connection point before a shunt in the vehicle that gives them better results. Essentially, the smart alternator can monitor its loads, so you want to attach the negative to that connection point rather than the battery.
      Since every vehicle is different, it’s a little challenging for me to demonstrate, but it’s a very simple job. In fact, some people just install it on their battery and experience normal charging results.

    Awesome video!! I think you sold me on this rather than the PECRON 500 watt chargers. I have the Delta 2 Max and I was going to buy two of the Pecrons to hook up to my 2 Solar ports to get 900 to 1000 watts. I think the Ecoflow does not always get 800 watts based on the alternator? Right??

      Thank you for watching. In my testing, it maintained a pretty good draw, near the 800. I will expand my testing, because it does have periods where it comes up and down a little bit while running.

      While the Ecoflow is 800w charging i believe the Bluetti's charger is 500w, which is still better than nothing at all.

      So the downside of the Bluetti Charge1 is the lower wattage output. On the upside, the Bluetti can work with every single power station on the market because it outputs to MC4 cables and mimics a solar array. You just dial up the wattage you need or select a preset for any Bluetti power station.

    Will the aulternator charger automatically charge the extra battery in the day and at night after solar stops charging will it automatically switch to discharging the extra battery into the ecoflow?

    Question regarding Delta 3 plus: how do you connect 2 devices to this with only 1 extra battery port? Example, 2 extra delta 3 batteries or 1 extra battery and the 800 alternator charger? I can’t find anything on this and I don’t see a way to hook up 2 external devices that use the Ecoflow connector.

      There is no way to do it simultaneously with the Delta 3, that is a downside.
      I run those items, just 1 at a tome

    How do I fast charge my 12 volt lithium iron phosphate battery does the ECO flow alternator charger hook up and make it charge faster or can I plug into the AC outlet on my battery and fast charge that way with a battery charger plugged in and then that attached to the 12 volt

      You can fast charge with a dedicated lithium battery charger that plugs into the wall, or you can use the reverse charge feature on this device.
      Plug the alternator charger into your EcoFlow power station, plug the power station into the wall . Connect the alternator charger vehicle side to your battery and select reverse charge.

    I am up in Canada so solar is not an option. I am planning a camper van and would like this set up with an alternator charger. Is this scenario possible? Permanent connection from car battery to EcoFlow Max but when EcoFlow is at max (100%) charged, dump excess power to multiple 12V batteries in parallel. This will make so much more sense for van life setup.

    You mentioned that it should be the Center of a wheel. It seems it can only be hooked up to one other source at a time. I have a motorhome so it has a chassis battery(2) and I also have 300AH of Lifepo4 for the house. It would be nice to take a charge from the alternator while driving but then be able to charge my lithium house batteries when boondocking for several days. The other issues I have are my MH is 50 amp and my Delta 2 Max does not have a 30amp plug outlet. Going from 50 down to 20 is quite the adapter mess. I would love a well rounded system that I could boondock for many days and even use 1 AC for a short time....but for now just be able to self sufficient for a many days(no AC) but with some microwave usuage

      It can only be hooked up to one source at a time, you’ll have to move it from one application to the next. In the video, I talked about doing an Anderson power pole hack, in that video I will make an adapter so that you can move it from one connection to the next quickly.
      As far as powering a 50 amp motorhome, you’re only going to get limited results converting it to 20 amp 110v. Most people do quite a bit of modification or they just power the DC on their MH and use the power station inside when they want 110VAC. Lots of options but takes tweaking to get best results.

    Is there a voltage limit for taking from a 12 volt source? Say you have an oversized 12 volt lifepo4 and want to power a Delta Max 2 overnight and then recharge it with solar during the day

      It will draw from any 12 V battery, and can handle the whole voltage range, it will up the voltage and deliver 800 W to your power station. if you have a large 12 V battery, it will draw off the majority of its capacity and stop itself before the battery is dead

    I recently got one for under 200 bucks, use it both both charge my ecoflow and recharge my multiple 12-volt batteries in parallel. I don't actually plan to put the alternator charger on a vehicle at all, I just use it in my home as a battery backup. I'm loving it so far

    I FINALLY found someone who wants to do the same thing I wanted to do with the anderson plugs to make this thing modular - I will definitely be tuning in to see how it works out for you, I've yet to be able to find anyone who has done it yet and have gotten nowhere asking FB groups for ecoflow/solar generators if there was any reason this shouldn't work. On that note, have you ran into any issues or reason this may not work?

      I’ll start the project in the spring, I have no doubts that it’s gonna work fine. I’ll just run the wire in the vehicle that creates a quick connect off of the battery that terminates inside the cabin. Plugging into that will be the same as plugging in directly to the starter battery. Then I can create a quick connect off of a 12v lifepo battery. This should make a nice set up for back-and-forth.

      I will do a video about this coming up. Since it is an appropriate DC to DC charge controller, it addresses the biggest concerns related to abrupt stops and transient.
      As far as where and tear on the alternator, it’s a definite concern, but won’t be that big a deal for some. it’s going to come down to whether you’re using it with a Subaru or a pick up truck right? We’ll have to look at what size alternators are on our vehicles and talk about the bestuse cases..

    Why dint you just by a pure sine wave , hook it to your battery and run ac back to the unit. So many other uses for it.

      A pure sine wave inverter is about 80% efficient between a battery and its AC output. It’s 80% efficient when running the additional AC DC charger that would be required to do what you’re saying.
      That means, for every 60 W that are delivered, 100 is drawn, and 40 is wasted. It makes it completely impractical in off grid situations, you’re wasting as much as you’re using. If you’re trying to recover from solar, this is gonna get expensive.
      This is a DC to DC charge controller that runs at peak efficiency and is designed for doing this task.

    I don’t know if I can wait for the Anderson hack. I am ready to try it now. What type of Anderson plugs do you use? Is 120Amp sufficient with 6 AWG? I’d like to set up a pair of jumper cables to quick connect to my battery and avoid permanent/semi-permanent mounting of the alternator. Thanks!

      Another option would be to use an Anderson SB175 and ring terminals and connect to the battery. It would seem that with a rubber cover and out of the way, I could have that attached to the Jeep's battery and just connect it which would be better than alligator clips on the battery posts. Do you see any problem with going that rout?

      I would much rather see this option. For higher, sustained current draw, I don’t like alligator clamps. The ring terminals will be the way to go.

    Great explanation about the alternator charger. Thanks! Mine is still in the box and I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the best use scenario, which you clearly laid out at the end of your video. I don’t have the skills to cut off a cable and attach Anderson connectors. If only Ecoflow would sell the cable by itself, we wouldn’t need to do that. I asked them if they will sell just the cable, but right now it’s a hard “no’. I would encourage folk like you, with a little more influence, to give them a nudge. Hey, it’s another sale for Ecoflow.     Great video and I am looking forward to the follow-up you mentioned. I am wondering if the device protects the alternator. This device will pull about 60 Amps, which may be too much for some alternators at idle. I wonder if it has some sort of algorithm built-in that will somehow limit the draw to avoid alternator damage.

      This is an extremely good point, I’m looking forward to talking about this in some follow up videos.
      It protects the alternator in its most important way, by avoiding transients from hard stops. As far as simple overloading with long duration, we’re going to have to know what we’re doing a little bit. Most vehicles with some higher towing capability will also have some higher alternator capability. In those cases, we’re gonna be fine. When towing with smaller vehicles, my jeep comes to mine… Subarus etc. will be fine charging while driving, but as you say, I would be mindful of stop and go traffic and long duration charging at idle.

      Most midsize trucks do not have noteworthy inverters. A lot of times they have a very cheap modified sign wave one in the cab, good for about 200 W.. I wouldn’t use it for anything. Are you talking about an alternator or do you mean inverter?

    Love your channel. You are an excellent communicator. Curious if the Andersen power pole hack would work for the EcoFlow spare battery cable. I would want to charge both batteries (Delta Pro and it’s spare battery) but the cables available are too short. I am trying to spread out the considerable weight of the Pro and spare battery on my trailer. Would be great if I could add 4 more feet to the available 5 meter cable. I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thank you.

    Yes, I would like to be less dependent on solar, please. There is not much real estate on my camper roof for that, and in my part of the country, camping spots tend to be in the shade. Something I would like to know more about: people talk about low temperature and its impact on lithium batteries all the time, but no one talks about high temperatures. Do you have something about that?

      Not as big of a deal with lifepo as with other lithium batteries. They have higher heat tolerance and all have high temp sensors. Where I live, and even traveling, I’ve never had high temp issues. I have met some folks that have had issues in black tongue boxes when they’re in the sun. I’ll put it in the notes for future videos.

    My concern is will this shorten the life of my alternator. Will the extra power drag drop my gas millage.

      Yes, I’m with you regarding the additional load on my alternator. If this is an 800 watt charger that means it is nearly an additional 70 amps load on the alternator for an extended period. I have a Delta 2 Max station and the only thing that keeps me from buying this device is the concern of placing my alternator and tow vehicle at risk with such a big load. EcoFlow tries to address this concern but I need more info before putting it in my shopping cart.
      P.S. I really like your idea of taking an additional battery vs buying an expensive EcoFlow battery bank.

      It is definitely a consideration. They address the most serious concern by eliminating transience by not doing hard stops. This is by far the biggest concern with alternator damage.
      It’s certainly something to pay attention to, especially when idling, much better to be driving when charging for longer periods (higher rpm and more passive cooling)

    Hello,
    Been following your channel for a couple years, and other camping/Rv ones as well. I been planning for a decade that in retirement I would buy a small 'Bed on wheels' clamshell ( read small really small) camper. The bushwacher and T@G are at the top of my list. I want to buy used.
    Can you put together a video about the buying process, especially where to find them. I find it hard to believe there are only 10 used ones for sale at one time in the USA . I went to a RV business, and they treated my like a bum, the salesperson, wouldn't even come out to speak directly with me. It kinda bullshit, I guess they don't want my money cause I am looking for the cheap solutions at this time. I am looking for a used one and only seem to see the 1000 miles away? Even a list of dealers to deal with ( who are not total assholes). Thanks!

      Since it goes, DC AC DC - it can be as much as 40% less efficient. The battery capacity cost more than the charger so it’s a losing proposition.
      It works great in a pinch, but this is a far better solution .

      @DIYOutdoorLife hmmmm I figured the initial lost wouldn't be a factor since the inverter will be outputting 1,000w. So only a 20% on efficency lost and the battery will still charge at 800w with a cheap inverter. Also what really interests me is charging the cells directly from hybrid cars since the car itself has the fancy chip that regulates a constant needed voltage to charge the battery 😁🤣

      It tries 1200 W from the battery in order to deliver 1000 W to the inverter output. Then, from the thousand watts, it delivers 800 to the PPS.
      On top of that, there’s a standby consumption that eats at the battery.
      It works, it’s useful in a pinch . But when you factor in the price of the battery, it’s not the long-term way to go, kind of just an emergency fix.

The trade off wouldn't be enough for me to pay the extra money to buy the alternator chargers, I think they're nice no doubt but they need to come down in price, the bluetti 560w alternator charger was on sale for 200usd during black friday and I think that should be the original price. Ecoflows 800w should be no more 250usd 😮🤣🤣🤣 (broke person like me would still buy the regular 1000w inverter and cry when something breaks in the car 💀)

      330? That amount of wiring and fuses costs a 3rd of that. Everything’s pricey these days.

      @DIYOutdoorLife but, you can get a 1000 watt inverter for $100 which will charge it at the same rate, with a bit more loss.

      It’s about 40% more loss. Remember it has to be converted to DC after the inverter makes AC. It wastes on both sides .
      You would also need an addition battery charger (66 amps) to charge the stand alone battery.
      There’s certainly different strokes for different folks , but this is not some overpriced piece of junk. You can do a lot more with it faster and more efficiently for less - if and only if you need these features.

    I think Sam's solution of using the $180 Sportsman 800W generator from TSC is far better than this. KISS.

      Hard to beat if you don’t mind the noise, gas storage, smell, carburetors… lol. I hate generators…. 🤣

      @@DIYOutdoorLife Watch Sam's video on the topic. None of the listed objections apply, or are fairly minimal. 55db @ 50% load. The thing only holds .50 gallons; 2 one litre backpacking gas bottles will refill it. Your car burns gas to run the charger anyway. I'll take the trade-off from additional strain on my alternator, wiring and installation, and proprietary hardware so I can charge whatever PPS I want to. Curmudgeonly old cuss, ain't I? 😉

      Haha- of course I’ve seen his vid, he’s even run his sportsman at my house before.
      They’re both great options to get the job done. The stand alone battery charger is the winner for me. I’d need a 66 amp charger (slightly bigger generator as well) to charge the battery at campsite. The ability to “move” capacity around is the bees knees!
      😂 you’re not a curmudgeon, I like that there’s different strokes for different folks!

      I purchased the vast majority of what you see on the channel, when I get something free or discounted for testing, I’m clear about that and never just “sling” stuff for companies.
