indeed, even just some eyelets welded in to the beams to attach the rigging to makes sense to me. having to use a nut removal tool to stuff webbing through a slot so they can rest on a welded bridge between beams seems way more cumbersome and dangerous work to me (a climber, who is used to hanging off steel bolts drilled into rock)
As one who walks on I-beams... this style of beam... moves a lot more than you'd like to know. Still love being up there.... but... yeah.... this video is more intense than it looks. Hope to have balls of steel too one day!
Wow this guy had to get some serious BIG bucks for doing this at 200 feet in the air. I know regular arenas don’t have as high of a roof as a retractable roof football stadium here.
once you are past 30 feet you probably won't survive the fall unless you are awful lucky and even at 30 expect a minimum of life long serious issues if you do survive.
@@bratwurstbernd1129 That is not the problem. Most of these people are indeed tied off and if they fall it will not be far. The problem is the harness will cut off your circulation if you are hanging in it for to long. Depending on how long the person can keep pressure of the arteries in their legs. Eventually they won't be able to at all and they will fall asleep forever if there is no quick way to get them down or back on the steel. some places are extremely safe and even have inertia reels over every rigger. the reel will slowly drop them to the floor.
@@monmixer Im not sure what kinda harness you think these dudes are wearing but i can tell you from experience, its not cutting off anything except for maybe a nut if its in the wrong place.
How many people do you think would have to risk their lives to put a catwalk up there? I've been up in that roof many times and trust me, you can't just put a catwalk up there.
as long as you survived right. and all you people saying he needs rope access training are probably right but I wouldn't want to jug all the way up that.
I have never understood this. I watched a video of someone taking these down... now this dude is putting one up. It seems like unnecessary risks involved. For example, why is there not a wire cable running from side to side that they can attach to as they take these up and down? I assume they take them down to inspect them. Or even better, why not use the OLD system as you run the new one in? Then remove the old one AFTER the new one is in place?
yes they are hanging truss from these beams. Of course the truss is about 225 feet down. Putting them about 50 feet from the ground. get out there and climb boys!
REason why I say that is the altitude...where does the chain hoist stop at? Is everything from these beams just wire ropes to another attackment point closer to the ground then chain from there? Thanks for the reply!
Hopefully the guy gets paid 400$ each foot he climbs up. That place is massive, how in the world is something like that accomplished? Looks like it's 400ft in the air
so are you on belay? when you stepped up on first sling what were you tied off to? only belayer? im so curious. i work in trees but this is really interesting.
So, question: you are risking your life. At the same time, you make life safe for many. How much is your hourly pay? I'm guessing it shouldn't be less than 75-80 bucks an hour. Particularly, because you are responsible also for the good working order and maintenance of all your ropes (I'm assuming that's your own equipment, since this would be the only way you could trust it 100% because that's the only way to know how many hours of work and how rough has the life of a particular rope been, in order to retire it when it needs to be). Meaning, you need to spend lots of money in equipment.
that's what I want to know - what's the pay. Because I'm sitting here thinking - you know what, they could offer me $1 billion to do it and I wouldn't be capable.
doesn't matter if they're paying $1 million a day, I wouldn't even be able to stand there, nevermind do the job they want done😂 But just looking at salaries for stadium riggers and it looks like they aren't even making 6 figures - like $60k. Seems low. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing. I was expecting at least $120k a year
Fucking cool job. I moved to Australia 7 years ago from California. Since then I've been an irata tech for 5 years and I'm a L2. I wanna get on jobs like this! Looks good. I like how you told the guy to talk to you. I was thinking the same thing... Good comms! What's the name of they little device you used to push the slings through that little gap?
The fact your whole life depends on that tiny thin velcro stitched rope if u fall just makes me sick whatching this vid lol. Props to the guy who had balls of tungsten for this
One would think an arena of this size, scope, and prominence would already have an arrest system in place.
exactly what i was thinking
One system won't work for every situation. Also riggers want to depend on THEIR system and work not someone else's.
somebody gonna remove those safety lines also the anchor points after events
indeed, even just some eyelets welded in to the beams to attach the rigging to makes sense to me. having to use a nut removal tool to stuff webbing through a slot so they can rest on a welded bridge between beams seems way more cumbersome and dangerous work to me (a climber, who is used to hanging off steel bolts drilled into rock)
Who do you think installs it?
My best rigging system is stay on the ground and pay someone else to climb. Thank you guys.
Right? No amount of money is worth it to me. lol

I think I'll stick with stagehand. You guys are a different breed!
Haha! My tought at 0:32 ...when not even before.

it looks plenty intense. I'm sweating just watching
I didn't search for this, but I really enjoyed watching this.
I lived in Arlington when they built the place. Those ironworkers are nuts

maybe it saved someones life by making them fear height

You have balls that I will never have!!!! Love the video!!!👍👍👍👍
I almost fainted while watching this! :D

Given the size of that place, you would think a good team played there.
Anyone know why they don’t wear parachutes in case of falling? Seems like that could be a good backup (unless I’m missing something)
I think they'd go splat before the chute opened properly.
This how you become a cowboy if you didn’t do good in practice
You know you are afraid of heights when you get nervous watching a video 😂
You have balls of steel to do things like that😨
I don't know how that steel beam can hold that guy since he has massive and gigantic balls for doing a job like that haha.
Yo this deserves more views
Vertigo indeed, think of the folks who built it.
Cool video, thank you for posting.
_”We forgot to turn on the GoPro, damnit!”_
If someone takes a fall, does the cable they're on and anchor they're on get retired?
Yes the will be replaced as the shock load can weaken the rope.
So when you're installing these systems are you attached to rock climbing ropes that stretch just in case you fall?
I would love to watch this in Apple Vision Pro
so do they have to pull 2-ton dead hangs 250+ft? 😅
I don't understand why the fall protection is not installed when the stadium was built
Like a permanent install 🤔
Gary Nolan lots of engineers tend to huff glue
No point, it would need regular checks anyway. These things get installed regularly depending on need ad hoc.
All I can picture is realizing I forgot the right tool as soon as I got all the way to the top.
Was he attached to a rope the whole time?
Yeah my palms are sweaty watching this.
Just wondering why you didn't aid climb out instead of leading?
What the he'll is he tied off to while up there? HUGE BALLS DUDE!
a rope
It might keep from going splat but how do they get you back up?
what's the rescue plan?
On belay with 600 feet of dual lines in ID'L and asap
@@johncaudill3774 Why did you choose the ID L vs the ID S?
I know this is an old video but I'm wondering what that flat jig is that you used to push and then hook your strap through the steel at 3:46.
Its a nut tool, they are intended more for rock climbing
@@tim.m3293 There's a lot of overlap between riggers and rock climbers
Why wouldn't they weld permanent d rings on the trusses so they dont have to fish tie offs through the steel beams
Then they would have to be load tested every few years if not every year.
I couldn’t imagine having to build this stadium
Chase Jerry Jones has plenty of money. He could afford just about anything
What's wrong with putting a catwalk up on that.... why should people have to risk their lives just for a couple hours of entertainment????
