- Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder, confirmed the USS Carney shot down more than a dozen drones as well as three cruise missiles that were fired from Yemen and heading "potentially towards Israel."

Ottoman empire sent 85 thousand soldiers and 5 thousand went back and the 80 thousand were killed
Egypt sent 64 thousand and 60 thousand were killed

So Yemen has cruise missiles and drones that can hit a target nearly 1000 miles away? To put that in perspective Ukraine doesn't have anything that can hit half that distance.
No, probably not. The distance the missile would need to travel is more like 1400 miles, and Iran only recently built a missile that can do about 1000. Doubtful Yemen would even have this yet though.
They were reportedly fired by Iranian-backed Houthi militants, so looks like they were fired from Yemen but it was really Iran.

So...ultimately it doesn't prevent them from sending more. If they want to continue to escalate, they still could.
What it does do is prove the USA is both willing to, and capable of, directly intervening in their attempts to escalate. That's not nothing. It also gave more time for information to come to light regarding the hospital attack, which really does seem to indicate it wasn't an Israeli strike. It's harder to internationally justify lobbing missiles at Israel for attacking a hospital if they didn't actually attack a hospital. And lastly, it prevented Israel from actually getting hit with missiles, which almost certainly would have caused an Israeli reaction and in turn broadened the conflict zone.
Warhawks in the US Senate rubbing their hands in excitement knowing their stocks in the Arms industry are skyrocketing.
I figured the only way to ever actually escape this rich gets richer storyline that's been doing the rounds now oh a few thousand years. Is to either die or live in the woods with no technology of any sorts almost. Almost. It's more predictable and all encompassing then any known viruses out there in the galaxy.

@@evansusmc Logistician working with transport and distances? The distance from Yemen to Israel is 1500km. The max range on a military drone is 200km. They didnt shoot anything down. This little 'story' is meant to announce to Russia that the build up in the Mediteranean is defense-only, and nothing to do with Crimea

Not the first time the US and Iran (or Iranian back rebels in this case) had minor clashes. I think the US won't escalate, otherwise it will be stretched way too thin between the war in Ukraine, a direct conflict with Iran and China, seeing the US stuck in two conflicts, would probably attack Taiwan.
Geopolitically, the US does not have much to gain right now from entering a war with Iran.

@@operator9858 Yes and no. Maritime trade would be so much less reliable without the United States Navy patrolling the oceans. That is an overwhelming fact. However they do waste tens sometimes even hundreds of billions of dollars on bloated contracts. And sometimes Congress is responsible by making deals with arms contractors that build expensive defective ships not even the Navy wants.
