I love this episode. Annie chloroforming the janitor twice, Troy prancing over the janitor, and Abed suggesting they all pretending to be chloroformed then lying like a plank.
Yessss... the fact that the show wants us to feel bad for thinking Annie is hot, while simultaneously making her insanely hot, is such a great joke in itself... and watching BW fall for it is *chefs kiss*
@@rabbitguy I loved 6! Not getting into it too much because spoilers but Elroy and Frankie are great additions and they had some of my favourite jokes of the series.
I always felt season 6's writing is on par with seasons 1-3, but it's just the overall production quality (set design, audio, etc.) that takes a significant dip and hurts the show. Writing wise, I'd say season 4 is the only inconsistent season. Some great concepts but pretty sloppy.
I love that Eric is getting more hyped for the rest of the season, but for anyone who remembers what the next episode is... well, let's hope Janci is there to whoop him into shape 🤣
I was in the throws of my young adult depression and going to college with no intentions of graduating, and community helped me see the joy in the little things in life. Just like in this episode, so many jokes get overlooked over by the first timers, i.e. the secondary characters being on the winning team (just like in the contemporary american poultry), and of course abed wearing a stethoscope to break in. Please crew of blindwave, watch the bloopers!
Some of season 2 gets pretty annoying. They did Pierce dirty with some of the storylines. I preferred when the character was offensive only inadvertently, and was mainly acting as the wiser old guy who gave advice to the other characters one on one to help them out with his life experience. The character was worse when he became mean and everyone hated him, and it hurt the show. I think my most favorite episodes are in season 3, but there are some really great episodes in season 2 as well.
Your commentary about Jeff is spot on, and why he's my favourite character in the series. You guys really seem to get the character and his struggle, which I think is a part of Community that sometimes gets overlooked or forgotten about in all the zany and ridiculous antics.
My grandparents went to AA and Al-Anon. I was raised sitting in a corner drawing pictures listening to stories/ life lessons being told ( I think they honestly thought I wasn't paying attention) No one is a better storyteller than a recovering alcoholic
I loved when he tells Jeff that pierce ruined his and Abeds hand shake and "Now we can't get the MAGIC back" The guy is possibly the most talented human currently living. Writer on 30 Rock, wrote one of the best and most meaningful songs of the last 25 years, writes, stars, produces one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the past decade but if all he ever did was 4 seasons plus a few episodes of Community, it would be enough.
8:55 _"He's a bad friend!"_ One of the many Annie Edison lines used in the intro song for the Bobby Lee and Andrew Santino podcast, Bad Friends. They've always been streets ahead.
Off topic but have you guys ever done a Q&A about yourselves? I’ve been watching you for years and I realized I don’t even know how long you’ve all been friends or when you met.
Gas leaks aside, this is the quality of the show (I'd include season 1 in that level of quality). I'm even a weirdo who thinks season 5 is the show's best and season 6 is far better than it has any right to be after so many years and whatnot. It's so good. I miss watching this show live.
@@dragontears I don't dislike the gas leak year nearly as much as most people. It is the weakest season, though. It still has great moments. A couple really solid episodes.
Early season 5 is great. It kind of falters a little but it's solid and better than 4. Season 6 is really underrated imo, I'd put it up there with 2 and 3 as the best half of the series. Season 4 is the weakest season, but the weakest season of Community is still pretty damn good.
Season 5 and 6 are just really different. Too much has changed. A lot of the magic is gone because some of those pairings no longer exist. Still, they did a pretty good job with what they had.
it's pretty solidly this up until season 4. Dan Harmon got fired after Season 3, so season 4 is rough with a few golden patches written by Jim Rash. Harmon comes back in season 5 and I personally think it's low points are on par with this season's low points and it's high points are unbelievable
I believe that chloroform generally lasts for as long as you keep applying it, at least when used in small doses (like on a rag). Once you stop inhaling it, you'll wake up in maybe 5 minutes.
Jeff is also a little bit based on Harmon's best friend, Jeff Davis, who you can also enjoy on Whose Line. Plus, he shares his name with the Teen Wolf creator and often got harassed by its fans.
You can expect this level of quality to continue through Season 3. Arguably, Season 2 might be the best of the series, but it's a toss-up with Season 3. The magic and charm of the show fades over time starting with Season 4, which was not written by Dan Harmon. (Personally, I didn't find 4 to be nearly so bad as other Community fans, just not quite at the level of seasons 1-3, and the momentum of the show shifted down and never fully recovered.) The latter seasons suffer from impending threats of the show's cancellation, and particularly from the resulting departure of a few of the main actors, which changed the vibe and of the show. That said I find Harmon's writing and stories to be consistently good, and all six seasons contain stand-out episodes that IMO make it worth watching the series to the end. This is one of the most witty, creative, funny sitcoms to ever hit television.
After so many years of watching this show, I think I now know why Pierce cries and mentions his father and hair.. Don't want to spoil anything for season 3!
I didn't see it mentioned in the comments, but another small little tidbit from the chloroform scene, if you go back and watch when troy is running around, Annie accidentally chloroforms herself! 😂 Priceless reaction 🤣 obviously a year later, but somebody might see the comment and brighten their day.
@6:36 You see Eric!? Can you see now why the whole _"Annie's pretty young. We try not to sexualize her."_ is obviously not true in the show? *_That's the joke!_* *COMMUNITY* own inside joke. xD @7:46 @8:11 @9:02 Hell yeah! Annie for the win! ❤ She's the best, and a 🔥 *_BADDASS!_* 🔥
The show gets better and better throughout season 2 and 3, then there's the gas leak year after the network got rid of Dan Harmon. But then he's back for season 5 which features my personal favorite episode Basic Intergluteal Numismatics. Which has, among other things, the funniest scenes with Garrett, Vicki crying out in dismay, "I got CRACKED!", and A fantastic song written and performed by Ben Folds.
6:37 Remember the episode Jack Black was on when Jeff said they try not to sexualize Annie? And then when Annie said in season 1 of episode 5 that her mom said she had “no boobs”? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Now we see that she is not just the smartest but also the most beautiful person on this show. Also Rob Cordry is freaking HILARIOUS in this show.
Well Eric, you’re in for a treat my dude. I don’t even consider this a good episode compared to others in season 2. I like it and as a Jeff Stan I think it’s super important for his character. But it’s definitely not even top 10 for season 2.
I love this episode. Annie chloroforming the janitor twice, Troy prancing over the janitor, and Abed suggesting they all pretending to be chloroformed then lying like a plank.
The fact that the Annie part got them all is hilarious to me and shows how good the humour in the show is

Troy-Abed-Annie is the best trio. Love that chloroform scene (and the fact that it's one of the cast's fave too!)
two important things to note here, Troys unending childlike curiosity, Annies ability to turn her ruthlessness up to 11/10
The fact that there are like 15 episodes this season better than this one really bodes well for their enjoyment of it...
I thought fifteen seemed like exaggeration but just looked at the episode list and it checks out.
