Most steam negative reviews are quite hillarious ngl. Dudes didnt like the game so they gave it a negative.
No one is saying the art direction or the animations are bad they are saying the graphical fidelity is bad which it is. Showing a scene where shit is exploding and falling apart doesn't argue against that at all.

Just got through this same mission last night. It was goddamn epic. And the whole thing started with a dust storm and you dodging a goddamn laser amd made you think "i'm supposed to stop this all by myself!?"
And when you destroyed the first section, you could feel the huge mass of industrial machinery collapsing on top of your head.

after destroying the Strider I was flying away, changed the camera view wherein it's in front of me and the explosion of the strider was caught behind me! Anime style finish!!
The devs knew how beautiful this game is, I remember there was a mission where you protect a nuke so the can launch it, after the launch sequence the NPC will mark the location of the impact in your screen so you can appreciate the fireworks!

Game looks most excellent on my 65 inch 4K TV. I was initially having issues with getting HDR to work but got it going. I think I might start a new game to play on my ultrawide with mouse and keyboard instead of controller. See which one I like the best for PVP down the road.

im honestly so glad i dont have to fiddle with a controller anymore coz i suck at those. made these games incredibly harder for me. im at chapter 4 right now and m+kb is just perfect for it, imho. being able to flick your mouse around whenever an enemy mech zips past you feels so great.
@@lowkeyobsessedngl the camera movement is really the only thing I'm missing from MKB but the comfort of playing from bed on my giant OLED with a controller has been hard to pass up, haha. I do wish the controller sensitivity slider went higher than 10 though.

Reminds me of the reaction back in job-training-school where my roommates kept dissing me for playing such a bad looking game and how i could even make out what i'm doing with just pixelates squares jumping over the screen (was replaying AC3:SL at that time)
Did people really say it looks bad? It's one of the most visually impressive game I've ever seen. Even more impressive that's it's a PS4 game. So much detail was put in the environments it's insane.

It’s about the art direction, I’d play this and elden ring with PS2 graphics if it kept the same art style, literally the only graphical upgrade in modern gen for ER and AC6 that can’t be substituted well with it is the particle effects
fromsoft is one of the last few AAA game companies i see focused on producing bangers rather than trying to push graphics as far as they can opposed to other companies and studios who seem to be pushing graphics as far as possible just rope players in and leave them with disappointment when the story, gameplay, and performance of the game is absolute trash. along with an honorable mention of Larian studios and their newly released Baldur's gate 3 that does indeed lean into very high fidelity graphics but I can crack 100 fps in that game with the settings cranked fairly often on my computer that PC snobs would call "budget" so i'm not complaining...
lastly, something a certain group of gamers that seem to buy games just because it has RTX in it need to understand that there's such a thing as an "Art Style" and if used correctly as seen in Fromsoft's recent games, it can pretty much carry the visuals of the game without the need of having a gazillion polygons on screen bricking your computer into the ground.
They had to make compromises with the environment assets and world geometry, we can all see that. But the mechs themselves are very high fidelity and I'm glad FromSoft made that decision for our less well-off console brethren.

Graphics are important but visuals are more than just level of detail. Who cares how sharp or realistic the game is if all it is is simple walking and repetitive QTEs. Stage setpieces and moments that leave an impression on players will always be more impressive to me.

Graphic fidelity may not be too notch, but they remember everything else and make it impact the player.

People bitching about games graphics act like they didn't live through minecraft being one of the ugliest games and still being one of the best selling/most played games of all time. Meanwhile tons of graphically complicated games play like dogshite or are the most uninteresting thing to look at, usually both.

People are blindly conflating art direction, and graphical fidelity into one thing and its really annoying to see because it gets parroted by people who have no idea what they are talking about.
Does the game look nice to look at? Yes. Could it look even better? Absolutely.
Small things like more exaggerated specular/normal maps on the weapons/mech parts could have improved the mechs appearance like, 5 fold. The textures on the weapons are -really- bad.
Battle damage textures would have been great.
The motion blur on the overboost is pretty overbearing.
And the lighting engine could have been a done lot better.
Chromatic Aberration should be removed from the game and the dev who suggested they include it should be dragged out of the office and shot. /s But really, CA sucks.
And none of that would, or should affect people with lower end graphics cards because those things should be on an 'Ultra' preset toggle.
But none of that matters because there is a weird crab mentality with From games, you cannot critique them, you aren't allowed to do that.
And the people who suffer for what those people are saying are the mecha fans who live for shit like you would see in the Armored Core for Answer Opening. Its all in the *detail* for people like them. Not the grand Coral skybox. Or the Big Strider falling over. Its about the cooling vents smouldering for a while after expelling the gas. Boosters sputtering if the generator is having trouble. Laser particles burning on the surfaces that you shoot, or your mech when it gets hit. The gatling gun belts actually being a model that moves back and forth as the guns are fired instead of a flat static texture.
But again we can't have that because there can be no discourse about the graphics improvements because of Art direction Nazi's.

I think your ideas are pretty cool, the booster spurterring out more smoke than flames when the EN is depleted sounds awesome but that's not the thing people are saying and never was. You're unique in that your criticism is ACTUALLY criticism.

Remember that this is a stage transition. Most games would put you in a loading screen first before continuing play.

I'd rather have good gameplay and good performance/responsiveness over amazing graphics. Tired of these bloated, poorly optimized unreal engine games. Graphics look fine to me anyway honestly for this game.
A video game is meant to be played for its fun mechanics and gameplay, and the most important thing needed for good feeling controls and responsiveness is performance. Good graphics are nice, but not essential for a good video game.

Ya (granted don't have the game as cash is tight right now and if I do get it it'll be for PS4 as I've no PS5/PC is a 10 year old piece of shit that wasn't made for gamign to begin with), hell depending on the art style even games from 10 to 20 years ago can still look as good as games today or even better than games made in between then and now. Prime example of this would be The Legend of Zelda Windwaker which easily looks as good if not better than most Zelda games made after as well as most AAA games like Skyrim, GTA, the many Assassin's Creed games, etc only due to the Cel shading art style they chose for the game...same applies to Tales of Vesperia by Namco (15 years old) which also uses Cel Shading and is only beaten by Tales of Arise as far as visuals go in the same series and easily looks better than most FF games. In fact the more cartoony/anime style games just age better than the more realistic games overall (Dragon Quest 8 is another great example of this). On top of that all of these example also have better gameplay and stories (more so main scenarios, wester games especially wrpgs may be able to do side quest content/lore better but their main scenarios are usually meh) than most AAA games too (especially western AAA games).

AC games have aged surprisingly well considering the art direction has always been weird as hell. This will look fine in 5 years, where as some of the AAA offerings that go hard on "realism" always look terrible a few years later by comparison.

Its really obvious that the graphical fidelity in this game is not priority and it still looks great, but from software always did that, the best part of their games is art direction that carry the visuals and this one is no exception.
The art direction of this game made me interested and the gameplay made me love it. Only 2 chapters till the end but i know this is NOT made to be finished once.
I would love to see a space mission. I know we have some on satellites but I mean pure spaces.
Just so fromsoft shows how awesome it can look with a proper art style. I'm tired of space games excuse of "well space is empty so it HAS to look boring "

With the return of Titanfall 2, the success of Armored Core 6 and Gundam: The Witch of Mercury, as well as the annoucement of Mechwarrior 5: Clans DLC, it is a good time to be a mech fan!
The clan game is a standalone title, not DLC.
I think people don’t understand that the art direction is about scale so if your character is the size of a 3 story house (or larger) then essentially the environment around you is supposed to reflect that. There is a lot detail in the buildings for example you can notice flights of stairs on walls or buildings, windows in each column, roads, lamps, fences. It would have been really impressive though if they had civilians scurrying around like ants just too emphasize how huge you actually are. I think the graphics look great. And the fire power is very pretty lol

We did that. I felt that too man. When you hear on the coms of the enemies saying HOW CAN ONE AC DO THIS? You feel like your mech isn't just something so small.
I love the "were under attack!!" lines, the NPC dialoge is really good in this game.

Dude look. I’m a stickler for graphics. (I know it’s cringe but it is what it is) and while these aren’t elden ring or anything these REALLY WORK for this style of game. It makes the whole world feel like it’s a modern mecha anime. Amazing honestly.
I literally saw a title on UA-cam today: "why are they making games out PC's can't play" (meaning they are TOO graphically intensive) Gamers are NEVER happy with anything. If you can make a game with better graphics, go fucking do it, until then, STFU. this game looks amazing.
Play this on triple monitor. It's insanely immersive at that view. You can literally feel the sense of speed if you have the right setup.

i know everybody hates when people shit talk this game, i am also a long time Armored Core fan since i was a child. But the graphics really arent anything special. they're not terrible, but they are definitely not great at all. people are confusing great art design with good graphics, and they are not the same.
dont mind what ppl say. if u like it play it. my main game is tower of fantasy and many dont like it. they prefer Genshin - doesnt matter how popular it is - its a boring reading game.
Good art design is better than good graphics: you can achieve the same effect with less. It's much better than waiting 4 months for performance optimizations for games that do NOTHING but force you to upgrade your PC to even be able to make them playable.

@@wizzenberry what? i'm on a 2060S and i have zero problems, game is smooth as butter. granted i have it installed to an SSD if that makes any difference. But for what the system requirements are the game looks and runs pretty great. Getting no stutters.
@wizzenberry no stutter finished about 70% of the game on a beyond mid pc
@@wizzenberry got a 1060 and a below min spec cpu, haven’t experienced any stutters so far.

It is "bad" but no 60fps lock! Tried it for 30 min. Also it runs ok so 7/10 on first glance on tech. Also compared to other games this year its 8/10 (graphics/tech)

huh? On PC there is an option to limit fps to 60 (among other frame caps).
@@axt2 Yes I said no 60fps lock. I guess one can understand as you did but 60fps lock means hard lock as in max fps. Elden ring had 60fps max (unless modding).

It does look like sh-t though. I personally will never play a game with more than 10% worse graphics than the current AAA standard because you can't use such a game as a status symbol on social media to show you can afford the latest thing. That's why people play games these days, as status symbols to display on social media.
