if you continue breeding these snakes, then yes i would say that make you a bad guy. or at least it means you are doing a bad thing. the only reason one would continue to breed snakes with that genetic condition is for the money. how do you know that doesn't hurt the snake, or is at least uncomfortable? a human being born with only one leg may not hurt him, but that doesn't mean it doesn't affect his quality of life.
RIDICULOUSLY gorgeous snakes! its a shame they have the defects though, but at least they're healthy and you give them a chance at a happy life, i salute you for that
Actually recently breeder have been incubating caramel albino eggs at a lower tempature. Around 87F instead of the 89F that is usually used for all ball python eggs. This has actually lowered the amount of kinked caramel to almost zero. So it is now being seen at a result of incubation and not passed down thru genetics.
That is something. I have never seen the kink before. I have heard about it but never seen it. This was a great video. It is nice to see the BP so healthy besides the kink. I have been watching your videos and visiting your site a lot lately and you have some really nice stuff. I am kind of new to the BP breeding thing. I breed Bearded Dragons and am starting to get into BPs. Well anyway take care.
I worked at a Petco and saw them take a feeder mouse to the vet 3 times for a neurological problem... eventually the vet decided it wasn't anything that could be fixed, and so Petco adopted the mouse out as a pet (cage, food, etc.). And I have PERSONALLY seen two people get fired because the company found out they had stuck a sick animal in the freezer.
If you don’t breed them I don’t see a big issue but it’s nice to keep them as a pet if it can still live okay. I am lucky to have a perfect albino caramel. I was not aware of this issue so thanks for sharing!
Someone on a forum was given a kinked one as a baby from a breeder, I think if I produced kinked snakes I'd offer them to people as pets rather than euthanise them. Actually I had one snake with an injury, a bad shed meant one of my boa babies lost an eye, I gave it away to a good home
wait a min ppl my dude is doing something great for snakes that would be dead right now cant believe this is even being discussed .... ralph please keep doing what your doing and thank you for sharing
thanks for posting this. i was wondering if you could address the "spider" issue that you spoke about in one of your upcoming videos. seems as there is a lot of misinformation about Spiders and their "traits", thanks
I am in no way supporting pet smart or petco, they both need to go away. But they do not freeze sick retiles. I worked at petco and they all go to a local vet. I will give petco credit for that. The habitats and all are terrible but they did treat sick animals.
hey ralph alot of breeders would have never showed that but ya you did its why you are who you are the freeking KING would you have any wobbleing spiders ? or duck billed super cinny's ? if so i think you should show the world in the different defects ...ok bro ill see ya later ed
do you sell any of the kinks? i don't understand why someone would risk breeding a kink when it could possibly be passed on genetically and potentially cause the baby pain or suffering.
@rrredzzz some snakes jusy dont make it some dont eat some cant shead right some hurt them and they have no other choice to put it down iv had to put one down because it was kinked so bad it wasnt bending right and wouldnt eat and i felt so bad i had to put it out of its missery
i am taking on 2 of my step fathers kinked ball pythons. one will grow out of the kinked spine, the other has a few smaller ones along with a very big one that is around a 90 degree angle kink... we are waiting to see if she can pass her feces. do you think it will be a problem?
i guess that could be true for some petcos but ive also heard people that worked there tell me they were told to put 7 sick red eared sliders in the freezer
Actually, if it is prevalent in this particular genetic mutation, BUT is also exacerbated by higher incubation temperatures, then it is indeed a genetic condition since this is the ULTIMATE cause (i.e., kinking is not prevalent in wild-type pythons incubated at 89F compared to those incubated at 87F). Incubation temperature is a PROXIMATE cause in this case. If one does not wish to increase their probability of producing kinked offspring then one is well advised to avoid this mutation.
im confused, what did you mean about what you said at 0:50 , put it in a freezer? so when they have a kink, are they born with it or does it develope later? im just a little confused about that
One of their store-level managers may have said to do that so that his/her higher managers don't come and inspect the store to find out why there are sick animals that need to go to the vet.
They're beautiful snakes, too bad about the kinking. Even so, as long as everything is OK with them otherwise, they would make great pets. I was going to get one, but was afraid of this, and bought an Ultramel instead.
@mastuerzo90210 From what I've read, Inbreeding has nothing to do with why caramel albinos are sometimes kinked or spiders wobble. If it did, then more than just those morphs would be kinked/wobble. :p
Putting reptiles in freezers is cruel anyway. That's is NOT the proper way t put them down. They dont simply fall asleep like mammals.. they stay awake the whole time and its painful. Same with beheading snakes... they can feel it Ndits improper. Gotta smash the brain instantly. Sad. Glad you kept this guy alive.
On two separate occasions I had to euthanise snakes. Both times I hit them on the head with a heavy book, the snakes were stunned instantly and died shortly afterwards. Far quicker and kinder than freezing
@@PKBitchGirl yes it is actually. If I had to kill an animal, any aninal I think I would make it count in that way. They say to smash the brain. Apparently cutting the head off doesn't quite work either, they still feel it but smashing the brain I'd a sure way.
he just said he didnt use them for breeding!! and with asmall kink they can breed with little schance of major kinking. the only think i dont like is the method of puttimg one down..
The kinking just looks gross; I personally would not own animals like he had in the video. Little tail kinks though, would not bother me. It's not that I'm an asshole, it just seems visually disturbing to me.
maybe if kinked is an allele for a gene, then it makes it recessive.... (inferior allele) Meaning all kinked are never heterozygous... So breeding both kinked would result into a 9:3:3:1 ratio.... would be 9kinked caramel 3unkinked caramels, 3kinkedcarier(normals) and 1recessivelynormalBP.... just a theory.....
Sansa Stark C02 doesn't work for snakes unfortunately. The preferred way to euthanize a snake is called pith. But many still freeze the babies. Huge debate over this in the Reptile world
CO2 doesnt work for reptiles and unfortunately the methods used by vets to euthanise mammals doesn't work well on reptiles either. It's preferable to crush the snake's skull than subject it to a long, lingering, painful death in a freezer. The two times I had to euthanise snakes I hit them on the head with a heavy book (I came home to Ireland late at night from being in England for the weekend to discover my poor california kingsnake had developed an infection which had eaten through his skin from his digestive system, no vets were open and I didn't want him to suffer through the night)
Why keep breeding them then? I don't understand the portion of the snake community that will "put up" with the chance of severe defects in order to keep producing attractive colour variations. If a particular colour, no matter how striking, is linked to a defect then it isn't worth breeding. No issues with the idea of colour morphs, but the ones that are genetically linked to a defect are simply and plainly unethical to breed. Actually I do understand, its because they sell. And it isn't just unethical to the snakes. The potential owners themselves are often deliberately kept unaware of issues related to a particular colour morph. It takes a good deal of digging to find out this stuff, and these morphs are most times sold without any disclaimer. Imagine paying hundreds only for your snake to arrive with a lethal kink or a headwobble so bad that they're essentially impaired for life. Even if you only sell and breed animals with no to little expression of any associated defect, you are still allowing for less conscientious sellers to get away with selling essentially snakes with special needs. Good on the people that take these animals in and allow them to live out as good a life as possible, but shame on anyone who knowingly breeds animals with these related issues.
@DeezMups if they are wild caught, they the parents could have been inbreeding unless you know the parents, this is not a very good proof to "its not due to inbreeding" Though it may not be due to inbreeding, this is not a proof
if you continue breeding these snakes, then yes i would say that make you a bad guy. or at least it means you are doing a bad thing. the only reason one would continue to breed snakes with that genetic condition is for the money. how do you know that doesn't hurt the snake, or is at least uncomfortable? a human being born with only one leg may not hurt him, but that doesn't mean it doesn't affect his quality of life.
RIDICULOUSLY gorgeous snakes! its a shame they have the defects though, but at least they're healthy and you give them a chance at a happy life, i salute you for that
do they have any problem shedding? it somehow looks like they would
Thank you for giving these wonderful Animals a shot, as a disabled person, I cant stand putting these in freezers!

I often wondered why this beautiful morph wasn’t as popular , now I know why! Thanks for this video!
wait a min ppl my dude is doing something great for snakes that would be dead right now cant believe this is even being discussed .... ralph please keep doing what your doing and thank you for sharing
Fair enough to let them live when you're born if they can survive but christ stop breeding things that come out fucked up >.
thanks for posting this. i was wondering if you could address the "spider" issue that you spoke about in one of your upcoming videos. seems as there is a lot of misinformation about Spiders and their "traits", thanks
Good To See You Didnt Just Toss Them In The Freezer!
i have a baby garter with many savere kinks. have you ever hered of a kinked wandering garter? if so, please tell me.
I am in no way supporting pet smart or petco, they both need to go away. But they do not freeze sick retiles. I worked at petco and they all go to a local vet. I will give petco credit for that. The habitats and all are terrible but they did treat sick animals.

How much does a perfect caramel go for?
thats good you let them survive, i bet they wanted to live, god bless you sir
What would you sell a kinked Caramel for?
do you sell any of the kinks? i don't understand why someone would risk breeding a kink when it could possibly be passed on genetically and potentially cause the baby pain or suffering.
curious, im new to snakes but obsessed, what does it mean for a snake to be kinked?
i have heard of kinks, i have even seen one on an albino, had a lump on it neck... looks like camel snake !!! thanks 4 sharing...
educational
do the kinks still have the ability to breed?
they are beautiful even with the kink
some think its to do with the humidity of the eggs whilst incubating
@rrredzzz some snakes jusy dont make it some dont eat some cant shead right some hurt them and they have no other choice to put it down iv had to put one down because it was kinked so bad it wasnt bending right and wouldnt eat and i felt so bad i had to put it out of its missery

Man I leave so much from this video thanks and also them are some nice looking snakes and considering the kink I think they look rather healthy.
Ralph what causes the kink ? great video also !!!
And 1 more question ...Is the wobble in spiders that big of a deal ? if so why ?
The wobble depends on the spider, some of them the wobble is barely noticeable, others have trouble staying upright
They're a new variation. Camel Caramels.
Severely deformed babies are put in the freezer to kill them, although there are better ways to euthanise snakes
why would you put them in freezers anyway like are they suposed to be worth something im confused?
Some hatchlings are severely deformed and it would be cruel to let them suffer. Freezing is not the best way to euthanise a snake though
@AddieLuver09 omg! thats terrible ...poor little guys :(
LOL...is that Chip squawking in the background?
:)
K~
Are you still doing videos
Just want to say thank you Ralph
One of their store-level managers may have said to do that so that his/her higher managers don't come and inspect the store to find out why there are sick animals that need to go to the vet.
y do ppl make carmel albinos if the kink
They're beautiful snakes, too bad about the kinking. Even so, as long as everything is OK with them otherwise, they would make great pets. I was going to get one, but was afraid of this, and bought an Ultramel instead.

he just said he didnt use them for breeding!! and with asmall kink they can breed with little schance of major kinking. the only think i dont like is the method of puttimg one down..
"now are they breeders? Not necessarily."
WHAT!??
Don't breed them. They have a higher chance of producing kinked snakes again, just mors of them
would you ethically breed a kinked male? i see no problems in breeding males but what about females, what about the very minor kinked ones
Why do they Kink for?
people put the snakes in freezers ? i dont understand why or how anyone could do that. id love that snake
have u ever seen a kinked garter snake. i have 4 newborn baby garters with terible kinks
Im curious as to how much wld a bp with a kink sell for?
The kinking just looks gross; I personally would not own animals like he had in the video. Little tail kinks though, would not bother me. It's not that I'm an asshole, it just seems visually disturbing to me.
I wouldn't buy a snake that was as severely kinked as that, but I'd take on one as a rescue
to bad about the kinks. Are they just weak genetically?
Is it pure coincidence, or is it genetic that you've produced a lot of caramels with kinks?
lol "it doesnt need a home" i wouldnt get rid of it lol
I think he was gonna keep it like to maybe breed? Which is a really really bad idea :/
maybe if kinked is an allele for a gene, then it makes it recessive.... (inferior allele)
Meaning all kinked are never heterozygous...
So breeding both kinked would result into a
9:3:3:1 ratio.... would be 9kinked caramel
3unkinked caramels, 3kinkedcarier(normals) and 1recessivelynormalBP.... just a theory.....
is that a bone?poor snake
you can try to breed to kinked caramels and produce a super kinked caramel... jk
haha im sweatin like a motha.... funny shit
The caramel kinking is not due to inbreeding. There are wild caught Caramels coming straight out of Africa that are kinked.
It's important to know
I thought CO2 was used, not freezers... Yeesh.
Sansa Stark C02 doesn't work for snakes unfortunately. The preferred way to euthanize a snake is called pith. But many still freeze the babies. Huge debate over this in the Reptile world

@DeezMups if they are wild caught, they the parents could have been inbreeding
unless you know the parents, this is not a very good proof to "its not due to inbreeding"
Though it may not be due to inbreeding, this is not a proof
and this is why i don't like morphs
why the heck would some one put one in the freser
give it a chance
thank god he did not frese it
Some babies are so severely deformed that euthanising them would be kinder
@Snake22789
There are better ways to put a snake down :c
It may be harder on the owner but it's far kinder on the snake to crush it's skull than put it in the freezer to suffer a lingering painful death
Inbreeding perhaps?
