There's a ton of them, they can be very different. In this video you can find out what the differences between a county, a municipality, a township, and special districts are.

THANK you so much for this. As one guy pointed out, people love to talk about highbrow politics but this is the real heart of democracy. I've been lookin for this for a while.
People crap themselves over how important the president and senators are but imagine how quick a town or county can fall apart if the guy in charge of town documents (death/land/service certificates) doesn't show up to work

I'm trying to start a government with my brother that will be built up on municipal governments and united under a autocratic leader who has limited domestic power but unlimited national power (military, diplomacy, tariffs, etc.) What you guys think, does this remind you of any other government system? @@bridgetownabridged Hes talking about the US. since the president holds a certain amount of domestic + military power & bypasses congress through executive orders. Although the US wasnt meant to be the way it has become but it was expected hence the 2nd Amendment
