  • Ave Maria!
Fr Ignatius gives the first of five talks for the retreat on the Stages of the Spiritual Life at Bloomington, IN from Jan 18th to the 20th 2019. He gives a quick review of the outline for the course and then covers the first spiritual stages also called mansions according to St. Theresa of Avila and then the spiritual nights. He mentions:
Fundamentals of the Spiritual Life, love ascending
Knowing the stages helps us to keep going and not get discouraged when encountering difficulties.
Outer Court those who have not even begun the spiritual journey,
Spiritual journey is mysterious and complex but at the same time is simple, everyone is different, diversity.
Fear and Love, Love is better and becomes stronger with progress. Fear fades.
Body and Soul everyone is different and God wants us to become unique saints, but there will be similarities and thus
Outer Court includes lukewarm, lax Catholics, but most are in mortal sin.
Avoidance of Hell and damnation, revelations of Hell
Ignorance of spiritual things without malice
People are looking for a little bit of encouragement
    Weak will
    Preventing relapse
    Weakness based on Temperaments
Cold and Indifference, actively ignoring helps and grace
Sin through Malice stubbornly and energetically sin and blaspheme. Need for prudence when trying to convert. Need for prayer and sacrifice to bring about a moral miracle.
Questions and Answers (Q&A), If no striving for spiritual progress then we will regress, Role of Mary, Souls of infants, Indifference vs Opposition to God, Miraculous Medals,

I wonder if the little public present had to do with pre-COVID-19 or various other reasons? I myself had no idea that franciscanfriars even existed.Franciscanfriars showed up on my 📱 phone about a year ago; of which I 'm eternally grateful.God Bless Our franciscanfriars!! 🙏🙌🤗

I’ve been all over UA-cam looking for good videos on Carmelite spirituality and this is, finally, a good one. I am very surprised that the room isn’t standing room only.

Fr Ignatius, can a soul go in and out of the dark night of the senses and the spirit several times in a row? If so, what would be God's purpose? To purge the soul of several imperfections? Does each dark night only purge a soul from one vice?

How is it that all graces , even if from the Lord have to come from our Lady
This appears to me very confusing
God is not dependent on any creature, even Mary to give grace.
I have a lot of searching to do
    Thank you for the content

Because Mary is the mediatrix of all graces. Sure, God could dispense graces through Himself, but He has chosen to do it through His mother.

What do you mean Father when you say "never assume that someone is in mortal sin"?. They are people that tell publicly what they have done. They say "I make an abortion, or I cheated my wife, or I have sex and they are not married", those are objectively mortal sins.
