Great question, Happy Halloween 🎃
From what I know of how double cherries work, as a theory at least, the real Mario is usually transported to the last “clone” alive if all others have died, even if you were to keep track of which Mario was first and the “original” and died. because, at least as I think, if it weren’t the real Mario he would’ve turned into a cloud of red remains before fading out of existence if he died, which wasn’t the case in future deaths after the doubling scene. but what do I know? We’re talking about someone who doesn’t somehow become drunk as heck from hopefully not dangerous mushrooms to our plumber friend

I found it both funny and cool how Mario got cloned 9 times by Double Cherries even when that’s normally not a possible thing, the maximum being 4 times
Anything is possible when it's an animation, where no physical limitations are put in place for "storage and smoother gameplay*"

Love how Mario actually gets creative with traversing the levels in everyone's animations, as opposed to just doing the normal game stuff. Even incorporated some moves from Smash and his newer games!
