Hi Mike. This is a great time to work over ditches and crown roads. Everything being nice and soft makes easy work with the smaller machines. I have a 30 horse Kubota and can move quite bit of rocky soil when its wet. Messy though, as you said . I enjoy your channel very much. Best of luck to you and your family in '20.

I love, around the 17 minute mark, how you love being outdoors and just working the land...paraphrasing, but my point is this: if and when I ever move again, it's gotta be to a property that has at least 5 wooded acres, so that I can actually enjoy using my power saws, axes, etc. Buckin' has influenced me in the nomenclature of how to address those gas powered saws with which we fell trees! I love what you do on this channel, Mike and Melissa, and it's a true inspiration for me to make things happen the way I wish them to!!! THANK you!!

i have been curious about the pond too, but just figured the temporary fix was still working since you had not mentioned anything about. I also agree that this time of year is not the best time to be working on a pond. I can only imagine the muddy mess that would be created from that.

Hey Mike, I would love to see another video on your current camera equipment, editing software, music ect. It would be a great help for small channels such as myself. I remember watching your first video on the subject. You've came a long way with your editing. I would love to know if it's the equipment, experience or both that's helped you grow in your editing skills. As always, enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your family.

Next time you rent a trachoe like that remember that boom is an articulating boom which will let you get more square with the road when you're doing roads. I have that feature on my trachoe and I'm pretty sure it's standard on most of them that size. It's great feature and will speed up the work on a job like that, plus will let you square up better.

That work just completed with the bobcat ditching and the crushed stone covering added is a job for a straight blade on 3 point hitch, I figure you won't agree but I will tell you this, almost all my woods roads are sloped, if we get heavy rain the water always makes its way to the ditch side. Most of my roads are 2 widths of my straight blade, roads are high in the center and slope each way toward the ditch on each side. I use the straight blade to grade the slope before adding crushed rock or anything else. You can slope any dirt road and you will need less and less crushed rock. Adjust the straight blade from the straight position toward the right rear tire one setting (one click) pulling the right side of the blade toward the right tire one click. Also on that right side of the 3 point hitch is the adjustable linkage, adjust the adjustable bottom right linkage out so that the right side is lower than the left side of the straight blade when parked on a flat surface, 1 inch lower on the right side is enough to start. One last thing you need some play in the 3 point linkages all of them when dragging a road you are going to hit rocks and stumps/sticks and the blade needs to be able to grab and jump over if you don't have slack you will break something, like a bush hog it needs some play to move around a bit. Now that you have the straight blade set you can pull the loose material from the ditch side to the middle of the road, as you drive down the right side of the road, stay to the right and that angled blade will move the loose material and will gently slope the road from the ditch to the center of the road, come back on the same road (from the other end) and stay to the right coming back on the other side of the road and it will do the same thing, pull the loose material from the ditch to the center of the road. It will take some time to get the slope you want and the water to run to the side but once you start you will see how it works and will see the advantage of the straight blade over the box blade. Also when you are cutting the road to bring the ditch side loose material to the center on a slope you want the concave side of the straight blade facing the driver, when you have the road sloped and a good slope across the whole blade you can start going down into the ditch side a bit further and widen your road at the same slope and still moving the material to the center of the road. When you have your road the width you want and the slope right you can level off the peak of the road a bit, best way to do this is to turn the blade around straight with the concave side to the driver, this puts the rounded side down on the center of the road and the concave side dragging down the road will level the loose material and force the larger boulders into the holes and soft spots as you scrape and scrape the roads. The only implements I have worn out are the bush hog (bearings, gears, blades, bar and stump jumper) and the straight blade (wore the flip-able wear plate and half of the shank bolts closest to the right side). I have 43 years experience with straight blade on 3 point hitch.

Mike you might want to think about adding another 5 feet Calvert to extend it out into the grassy area and fill in that ditch close to the road, less likely for whoever is going to be drive and down the road to accidentally dive into the ditch. You might want to think about using half Calvert to line the ditch with to keep the water from washing out your ditches , that maybe a add expense but in the long run it probably be cheaper because you won’t have to be digging it out and relying it with large stones

For the naysayers, what I’ve found, they are the ones that don’t have your skill set. The people who are truly good at what you do will only sit back and admire your work!!! As a teacher, I had to learn that the hard way. I am amazed by the way you handle the heavy equipment. It’s like a 3rd arm or leg to you. Nice job. I'm looking forward to seeing how well it performs. I hope to get some work done on the dirt road into my woodlot this spring. It has been very wet here in Connecticut this year also and it has stayed pretty muddy. I have to be careful about when I drive in there with my tractor or pick up so I don't rut it up. I'm probably going to use the geotextile fabric and stabilizing grid along with the stone, Might cost more up front but will likely need less stone over time... By the way, it's good to know that I'm not the only person that finds cutting and splitting firewood therapeutic!👍

Hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas.
Yes, Christmas eve was very foggy. I was not able to see down my driveway to my gate.
I agree with you on living in town. I love my property and enjoy walking through my woods and even in my open field which by the way I have decided to plant trees in this spring. I had a farmer growing hay in it but he decided not to renew the lease so tree's it will be. I have found an evergreen and Pawlania tree that is fast growing, up to five feet a year.
God bless you and your family.

Hey Mike. I have no idea how to do what you're doing , being a machinist , so keep doing what you do and I'll keep enjoying your videos. That fog sure was something that night , driving home from my brother's in Worthington , Pa .

You make it look so easy! I can’t seem to master your technique of spreading gravel. I usually end up too thin or a big pile.

Mike, I would consider extending the single 15" pipe and putting the ground back to grade. I think it would be easier to maintain. Cheers.
