Your video was a lifesaver. Every thing you pointed out was exactly the snags creating difficulties. Your video explained what needed to be done and what to do for the 1986 corvette antenna replacement..I could not find a shop that could help.Did it myself.. Thank you for your video..
I just got a 90 zr1 and the antenna sort of works but needs replaced. As a restorer you video was very help full. The 90s are different and Ill need to remove the wheel and the liner and access it from there. The rear trunk plastic is pretty much the same. There is a video on that one too. he did not need to remove the lights but the units are totally different. I bought a good used one for 100 bucks. It will be here soon. Thanks for your helpful video.
i had bad storms the outhernight.came out the next morning i could here the antena runin on its own on my 86..strangest thing.. im gona dig into it. thx! for your film itl really help out..
easy removal and installation... is right under the car ... instead of trying to get the antenna cable out... just drop the antenna down and remove the two small screws that hold it to the antenna housing itself and it comes right off.. there are 3 wires going to the antenna... just clip each wire and before you reinstall the antenna add about 5 inches of wire to each wire you clipped... that will give you plenty of wire to play with and recrimp each wire back together and tape over the newly crimped wires... removal and reinstall less than an hour
Hi, antenna was working. Disconnected battery. 6 months later connected battery, Friday. Think I just blew a fuse. Hm, what fuses are associated with power antenna? Power antenna replaced 4 years ago by dealership. 1988 corvette
Those aftermarket antennas are junk. I bought one of those for my 84 Vette. It’s very flimsy. I ended up rebuilding my original. Way better than the new aftermarket one. I replaced the nylon cord with a sheathed braided steel cable. It’ll never break again, as long as I own the car.
@@ktoutdoor it’ll work. Just make sure you keep the mast clean, and lubricated. The owners manual says to use silicone spray. That’s what I use on mine. You’d be surprised how quick that mast grimes up. I clean mine once a week minimum. Good luck.
@@FranksModelAviationWorkshop Thanks for contributing I agree about the silicone spray its good stuff. We need a rubber stopper on top of antenna so it will seal out the dirt when it retracts.
Now that I know how to do it I would say about 2 hours. But I would start from the bottom first if your antenna cable can be removed from under neath then you can save a lot of time. Call or text me if you have any questions 606-875-0125 Kevin

I went through the wheel well to do that on my 85. Nice to know there's another way.
On my 78 Corvette easy it's out side. You can get to it have had 3 of them first 2 was under warranty. You did good job on yours
Thank you it was more of a job than I planned on.
Great video! I'm about to do the same thing on my 84.
Thanks for watching let me know if i can be of any help.
I want to test mine before i but it in the car what wire is hot and ground there a different color the red and black
Sorry its been to long so I don't remember.
What did you use to connect the wires together to extend them?
To tell you the truth I don't remember but I most likely would have soldered new wires onto it and then put heat shrink around that
Just rebuilt my 81 c3 antenna not a terrible job
Hi, antenna was working. Disconnected battery. 6 months later connected battery, Friday. Think I just blew a fuse. Hm, what fuses are associated with power antenna? Power antenna replaced 4 years ago by dealership. 1988 corvette
My fuse is located in the right hand door jam side of dash board. Mine is a 1986
Is that a European version of an 85 Vette? I noticed the taillights are two different colors? Cool!
USA version
I have an 86 and the wire is getting hot up by where it goes into the stereo any suggestions?
Call or text my cell 606-875-0125 I will help you troubleshoot. Kevin
So what do you think my problem would be if my antenna is stuck down?
manually apply power directly to antenna power leads like i did if it don't work then remove and take it apart let me know what you see.
@@ktoutdoor alright cool thank you
Were you getting sound through the speakers at all when the antenna wan't working?
Yes radio still worked fine sound was still coming out all speakers.
@@ktoutdoor That's not what I wanted to hear Kevin!!!!!! HAHA thanks for getting back to me I appreciate it.

You can buy that part of the antenna.

@@FranksModelAviationWorkshop I agree my problem was the motor brushes ... but so far so good I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
