Man, just do your thing. You don't need to explain your reasons/criteria to anyone. This is your channel! You bring a lot of joy to a lot of people. Stay safe brother.
This song always reminds me of my first experience at a corporate company Christmas party. My employer had rented out the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. Coworkers were dancing, but I just didn’t feel comfortable cutting loose with the folks I worked with professionally. Then the DJ dropped Wild Cherry and I couldn’t help myself. I no longer cared. You couldn’t have kept me off the dance floor if you tried. It was at that moment that I realized that I simply cannot resist getting up and dancing to this song. An irresistible groove.
I was in Jr high when this came out. At a dull school dance, nobody dancing. They started playing this song and EVERYONE hit the dance floor. It was like a stampede! Great memory.

Glad he retained his Masters to keep getting paid. Idk why people are so surprised about artists being white since so many in history have been influenced by black artists.
Funny fact, they didn’t want to show their faces for a long time because they thought if people knew were white, they wouldn’t get the air play. They really weren’t a 1 hit wonder, but without a doubt, it was their most popular! I sang every single lyric with you. It’s funny, I can’t remember what I had for dinner last night, but I can remember every lyric to every song of my life. I guess that shows that music was and is the most important thing in my life to this day!! Oh, and I know you didn’t think they were white 😅😂🤣😄😃
The whole thing about Wild Cherry, and the song, is you need to see the "Midnight Special" video. That's the punch line in itself. If you don't see the video, while listening to the song, you'll never get the full impact and hilarious picture you're seeing. It's easy to find the video on "The Midnight Special" on you tube.
This took me straight back to 1976 when this song was first released and me and my gang were at the Roxy disco in Plymouth (UK), drinking illicit liquor in the semi-dark and boogieing down to all the latest funk rock vibes. In 1981 I was in Gatlinburg for vacation. As I approached a small roadside bar, I noticed their sign which said "Saturday night only the band Wild Cherry". The place was only maybe 50' x 50'.
I remember dancing to this with my big sister happy days. Great reaction Jay. 70 was a good time for music and yes dance like the bump lold omg 😀😀💙💖
Oh, and thank you for bringing this song back out. It's such a good song with so many elements, and a good feeling.
The movie you probably remember this from was " The New Guy" 2002. Comedy about a geek who tries to reinvent himself at a new school.
Or a year earlier in 2001, Evolution with David Duchovny, Orlando Jones, Seann William Scott, and Julianne Moore. Hysterical movie.
...or Malibu's Most Wanted (2003)
I love this! This is one we always have played at wedding receptions, my wedding too. It's great to dance too. All the cousins having a great time.
You need to find a live version!!!!!!!!!!! Really.
Yes really need to see them!!!
Midnight Special live version is a must see
You hit it right on the head! This song was such an amazing combination of so many things happening in music at that time. You just HAVE to move to it!
"This is a song I did not want to end" as he cuts it off before it ends. lol
Well that's one way to keep it from ending. Pretty brilliant actually, if you don't want it to end don't let it end.
Because in the 70’s we just needed the music. All of the music, black, white and everything in between we need it now, too! As much we did then, let the music bring us together again!
Definitely check out their live performance on the med night special.
I loved the way you pulled up the info on Wild Cherry. I am an absolute believer in learn. I wad a teen during the seventies and I knew the names of the band and song so it came as a shock that everyone else was like that. Keep up the learning.✌👍🙌
