Excellent video. It can also be used to replace the printhead on 6000 series Photosmart Printers. The 5000 series printer is VERY similar to the 6000 series, but there are a few minor differences: • It is NOT necessary to remove the display on the 6000 series. There are two screws behind the display that will have to be removed. Tilt the display forward to find these screws. • It is NOT necessary to remove the nameplate and unscrew the speaker. • The 640A printhead (6000 series) has four ribbon cable connectors instead of the three on the 688A printhead (5000 series). • Other than that, this video will pretty much guide you through the printhead replacement for 6000 series printers as well. Thanks for posting this very useful video.

Hi! HP 364/564 cartridges has been used in a great number of printer models, I suggest you going on the HP site and look for those cartridges, you should get the compatible printers list.
Hi! That is a very good printer and a printhead replacement is really cheap, in any case it's worth repairing it, don't generate waste if it's not necessary ;)
Hoping you are still replying to this video. I have a HP Photosmart 6520 that I bought used. The print head was clogged so I cleaned and reinstalled but it was still not working well. Especially the Black. So I ordered an OEM replacement and installed it. I had issues when I first started it with a faulty printhead error so I reinstalled it ensuring that I had the printhead cartridge fully back in the parked position and the cleaning system all the way forward. I believe that I got the error because I did not fully engage the cleaning system before testing it. This time when I started it I did not get the same error but got error code 0xc19a0003. I have unplugged the printer for up to 5 minutes and tried again but still receiving the same error code. I have restarted the printer while depressing the lid switch so I could see it cycle and the cleaning system fully retracts and the print head comes up and runs the length of the guide rod but does not print anything and when it reaches the end of that first pass it errors out and the carriage will only return to the parked position when I power down the printer. Any ideas as to what is going on and what I may try to fix this problem. I should also note that these problems or error codes were never triggered with the old printhead
Hi! Of course I'm still replying, I reply to every comment under everyone of my videos :) Well the fact that you didn't fully engage the service station or cleaning unit after you replaced the printhead means nothing really, I have done that in my video just to leave the printer in the same way it usually powers off, but if you replace the printhead without returning the service station to its position the printer should do it automatically. Said that, I think you have a faulty/defective printhead or the flat cables that connects to that are not in good conditions even if it seems like a less frequent case. Just to be sure, try to reinsert the old printhead and see if the error persists, if it doesn't show any error the printhead is bad and you need to contact who sold it to you asking for a replacement. Paolo M.
@@PaoloMarcelli Thank you for the response. I have been in contact with the seller of the printhead. He has been helpful. Here is where I am at now. I reinstalled the old print head expecting no error code but I am still getting the same error code, (0xC19A0003) that I got with the new print head. I did not have this error code with this old head prior. In fact the only issue with the old print head was that would not print black even after multiple cleanings the black output was very poor. Because of this I believe that all of the flat cables are in acceptable condition. As with the new printhead when I got this error I did a hard reset by unplugging the printer while it is on and then plugging it back in which is a solution I have located on multiple websites. Now with the old printhead reinstalled it immediately goes to the error code where as the new printhead would not error until I tried a test print. In other words it seems to be an even more severe situation with the old head than with the new. On top of all that, when I attempt to shutdown the printer in the correct way via the power button it is now hanging in the shutdown mode for 10 minutes now. So now I am going to go and unplug it. I did another hard restart and am now able to turn off the printer the correct way but still goes right to the same error code. Curious if, in your opinion, I have hit a wall or if there is other things that can be attempted to rectify the situation. Thanks, Bill
Reinstalled the new printhead and now getting the "cartridge access door is open" message upon startup. Problem is the door is NOT open. The mechanism is working fine. By dumb luck did my sensor just fail?!? I did multiple hard resets to no avail. is there a fix or a work around to this?
I have a hp photosmart 5510 and currently have a carriage jam issue. The printer makes a horrible noise and displays an error message "Carriage Jam". After opening the access door I see the carriage is stuck at the right (I can only move it a couple of cm to the left). I manage to turn the white wheels on either side with a screwdriver, so that the device beneath the carriage moves towards the back. At some point I manage to overcome the stuck position so that I can move the carriage by hand all the way to the left and right. Then I turn on the printer and it sounds like normal start, however after a few seconds it gets stuck again, the horrible noise starts and the error message (carriage jam) displays again. I tried to do a factory reset but the printer does not let me do it. Please any ideas?
Hi! This is a common issue on that model, the cleaning station/purge unit is broken, but there are no available parts to be found anywhere. The problem consists of 2 or 3 teeth at the left side of the cleaning station that are worn out and broken. Other than the parts being impossible to find it's not an easy fix either. Sorry for the bad news :/
@@PaoloMarcelli oh that's bad news indeed. The printer has worked fine for 8 years. Anyway thanks for your comment. By the way great video with detailed explanation.
Hello, "carriage jam" after replacing the printhead : My HP 5510 printer didn't print black, so I started to clean the printhead by removing it. After reassembly, I face a carriage jam issue. When the carriage is moving to the right, it stay up and block itself. I have to move the carriage manually in the right position (below the plastic). When the carriage is moving to the left, it blocks itself : when moving it manually, i don't feel any resistance. Thanks to share you experience if you faced this "carriage jam" issue. Two videos to explain my problem : @fWR8 @4xXU
Hi! Sincerely I remember how the sensor board looks like, but I don't remember the exact position, I'd have to take the one of the 5520 printers that I have and open it up, but I don't have enough time in these days. Are you sure you're having a problem to the paper sensor? Those printers sometimes have problems picking up and taking the paper sheets to the main roller, but most of the times it's not a sensor issue!

After I cleaned the printhead many times without more succes then before, I replaced it now with a new one. But STILL it is not printing black! I tried 4 new black cartridges already. The other colors work fine, but just not black. I have the newest firmware running. Has anyone another idea?
Hi! There's clogged ink buildup inside of the purge pump. It's divided in two sections and the black is the one that creates more problems. There's no way to replace it because HP doesn't sell those parts and no one has even in third party. There's a way to unclog it but it's a biiig mess because you have to disassemble it completely and create pressure at one side of the pump and depressurize the other side while turning the gear the proper direction. I'd make a video on that if I had a printer with that problem to repair :/

Hi!
Of course I'm still replying, I reply to every comment under everyone of my videos :)
Well the fact that you didn't fully engage the service station or cleaning unit after you replaced the printhead means nothing really, I have done that in my video just to leave the printer in the same way it usually powers off, but if you replace the printhead without returning the service station to its position the printer should do it automatically.

Thank you for the response.
@@billfleming9232 you were able to replace the printhead? I keep reading that its not possible on 6520
Hi, if you know could you tell exactly what
5C20 error code in canon printer means.
16 times blink
Pump roller sensor error
Check cable connections
Check Purge drive
U helped me
. I have HP 5510 printhead problem, it says printhead damage
please any comments on what I should do, have cleaned the printhead., still not working
Hi!
If the printer says "Printhead Damaged" cleaning it won't change anything, you need to replace it :)
14:30 is it okay to clean it with water? Do it have to be clean so it can read of it?
What is the URL for the site to purchase a replacement print head?Great info. Thanks

Hello, "carriage jam" after replacing the printhead :
My HP 5510 printer didn't print black, so I started to clean the printhead by removing it.
Two videos to explain my problem :

Did you find a solution? I've now got the printer saying Cartridge Jam after cleaning it.... and I don't know how to fix it.
I got this error too. The semi-clear reader strip needs to be re-inserted very carefully in a small opening on the back side of the printhead.
hello consult you know where it is and how to change the paper sensor in an HP 5525?
Ciao Grazie mille per il video but I need more HELP!!!

@@PaoloMarcelli Good afternoon I get the following error: "Printer failure 0xc19a0013 Printer or ink system problem. Turn the printer off and on. If you still see this message, contact HP" What should I do ???
I open my printer for cleaning and now it is stuck in “cartilage door access door is open” what can i do to fix it?
Check the sensor on the main PCB on the left that looks for the cover to close.
Great tutorial. I bought and installed a replacement print head for my HP5514, but now the "ink cartridge access door is open" error message is on and I can't figure out how to correct it. I followed your video step by step, but now I'm stuck and don't know how to fix it.
which screw should i use
Screw? You mean screwdriver?
What do you do when the printer makes a gridding noise and the printhead gets stall?
Hi! It's a broken plastic tooth of the service station, you need to replace the service station part.
@@PaoloMarcelli I found 2 broken teeth; but no service station to buy. I will try to repair it. Thanks.
its not T8 or T9?
Thanks a lot. I followed the process but when I switch on the printer it is said that the carriage is blocked. Could anyone help me please? Thanks in advanced ^^
Hi! Send me an email, I'll explain you why it behaves like that and I'll attach an image of the part that needs to be re-positioned correctly.
Great video 😊👍🏻 but now I get a carriage jam error. I have cleaned the encoder strip but it still jams.
Thank you
Please please please HELP HELP, my 5515 HP printer show an error called "carrier error" and after that an screan blue with withe letter that it says " 0x6100000a error or 0x6100000b error" after that put "system print error turn off and wait and turn on "
CAn anybody HELP ME with that?
THANKS A lot.
Paolo Marcelli doesn’t sound good :( So i will have to get a new one. I think it’s not worth it anymore to invest more into this one.
@@don-oe9gp If you're from any part of Europe I'd fix it for free just to make the video on it, but if you're from outside EU it wouldn't even make sense just for shipping, import & export duties. The 5520 all considered it's a nice machine, but it had some problems like all the HPs XD
Paolo Marcelli Dude, this would be so nice. I think still in the EU the shipping is not worth it but, I also want to see now if and how you gonna get this thing working again 😄 I will contact you in telegram
My 5525 same problem - I took out print head and cleaned, etc. but no luck. Looks like time for a new one. I had this one for a few years so at least lasted some time. I hate throwing things away though that otherwise could be fixed. Be nice if they move towards better design. btw Paolo - this video helped me with the springs because I did not know how to put them back. Thanks!
what is that magic potion you use its not in canada under that name
Black is a Hot Mess. I took mine apart and cleaned it now it says damged printhead. Grrr
Hi!
Are you 100% sure that there's absolutely no water on the PCB and in the connectors? Spray every connector and part of the PCB with compressed air and be sure it's dry before you reinsert it, if it doesn't fix the issue you could have a damaged printhead :/
Here's a printhead compatible with the 5520 for 12€

I am going to let it dry for a few days and try again.
Thanks very instructive video but can you please tidy your desk 👍🤩😹
my dad failed at refilling a cartriage and it spilled all inside the printer P:
Haha it can happen, especially with Canons when they are not sealed correctly on the ink container side :)
