  • FRUGAL LIVING video is here! The cost of living and the price of food has increased so much that many people use a food bank or food pantry to make ends meet. The food pantry is a great resource to obtain food and household supplies. There is no need to go hungry when there are great resources out there for everyone to use, if you qualify. I encourage you to apply to your local food pantry or food bank if you need help with groceries. It's also a great place to meet new people in the community. If you do not qualify for the food pantry or the food bank then please check out your local churches as that could be another option to get help.
    FRUGAL LIVING FOOD PANTRY HAUL 2024!
    Food Haul & Food Pantry Hauls Are Such A Blessing To Be Able To Have
    There is no shame in going to a Food Pantry, a Food Bank or a local church for help with groceries. The cost of food and the cost of living is high. If you have low-income, lower income or no income then the food pantry may be a great option for you! Inflation prices are rapidly increasing, so more people are using their community resources and programs than ever before. Using your local community resources to help offset the cost of food can help you stretch your paycheck or retirement funds further. Keep in mind that sometimes the food has gone bad. There are times I have received items from the food pantry that were spoiled. Sometimes the food is very out of date and not suitable. Please check the best by dates! If you receive spoiled items, then I'm sure it was an accident. Food banks and food pantries move a lot of inventory and there are times when the food has turned. They have a lot of food that comes through and they're not perfect. Volunteers help rotate and shelf products at the food pantry. Just keep your eye out for best by dates to make sure you are getting the best quality items you can find!
    Frugal Living - Food Haul
    I live a Frugal Lifestyle. I shop sales and squirrel away supplies for winter. I am mindful to stock up on everyday items to save money in the long run so I can pay for daily living expenses like electricity. Every purchase I make is a financial investment in my future. It could be a bottle of water or a can of beans. Part of my frugal living lifestyle is using my local food pantry and shopping at thrift stores. Each organization has their own rules and if you qualify, you become a consumer to their program so please follow their rules to maintain a good relationship with your food pantry or food bank. I still have bills like everyone else and I budget according to my finances. Although I am considered financially poor or low-income, I do not feel poor. I eat well.
    Frugal Living
    Thank you for watching my food pantry haul video! It really means a lot to me to see everyone watching my videos. I enjoy making these videos to help others and show what is going on in the East Coast. I hope my meals inspire you to cook at home to save money. Look out for more videos in the future! And thank you to everyone that subscribed to my channel! It means so much to me! These are uncertain times, but you can be certain to plan, prepare and get stocked on essentials.

    HOW TO GET FOOD BANK HELP?
    Contact your local churches or you can ask the county. There is nothing wrong for wondering how to get food bank help. Each county has a social services department that can direct you to food pantry resources in your area.
    WHAT FOOD DO YOU GET FROM A FOOD BANK?
    All types! I get all types of food from the food bank from unknown brands to name brands. Each shopping trip is different. I also get a lot of seasonal vegetables to cook with. Some food pantries offer staple items like beans and lentils, other food banks may even offer organic food.
    FOOD PANTRY NEAR ME TO DROP OFF FOOD?
    The best way to find a location near you is to contact your local churches, google search it or contact social services.
    FOOD BANK MEALS!

    The metal fruit basket is a salad (lettuce) spinner. My Parisian mother used one all the time; load up the washed leaves and go outside to spin that sucker around and around. Only fun for a hot minute :) We rarely get very expired grocery store donations at my food pantry, instead getting them from people cleaning out homes after a relative's death or move to a nursing home. Grocery stores often give us opened packages & dented cans, which aren't put out.

    • @CareFreeLivingChannel
      @CareFreeLivingChannel  Місяць тому

      I'd never heard of the basket being used as a salad spinner! How creative! I was surprised to get something dated that far back from the food pantry. Those dates can be difficult to read! That's nice your grocery store offers those items. Have a great night!

    Hi Sarah, Loving your channel! I wouldn't worry about ANY of the "best before" dates as they aren't 'expiry dates". I truly believe corporations know people use the best before dates as expiry dates, and are hoping people will toss perfectly fine products out (being afraid to use the products past that magic go bad by date) and then they'll go out and purchase more (more money for them if they do this). There once was a time where manufacturers weren't required to put best before dates on packaging (yes, I'm that old LOL). We didn't worry, and could only use our common sense. If it smells or looks bad then toss it. I personally don't recall anyone I know dying from using anything that may have been in the cupboard awhile. There's actually a lot of info coming out about this exact thing. It's sad how so much food gets tossed because people have been brainwashed into believing they'll die if they eat anything past the best before date. Enjoy your food pantry food, and have a great weeK!

    • @CareFreeLivingChannel
      @CareFreeLivingChannel  Місяць тому

      Thank you so much for watching! Good points you made. Using our senses to test if a food smells bad or tastes bad is important. Whenever something looks off or smells strange, I just let it go. If I have the opportunity to own a small home I would have one like yours ❤️. By the way when you purchased your home did you had to move it to where you are at? Do you own the land or is it a community? Do you pay for your space/lot? Is it very expensive and do they increase the rent every year? Here in Florida the lots for RV or trailer homes can go from $550 to 1200.

    Generally cheese does get moldy. I just cut off the mold and eat the good part. The exception is bread, because the mold spores can travel throughout the porous bread easily. Living in a warm climate I generally refrigerate bread--which I hate to do--just to extend the life of bread. Also on expired stuff, I sniff, taste and visually judge an item. Some things like nuts go rancid, but most shelf stable things seem fine.

      That's good info on the difference between mold on bread versus cheese, thank you for that! In my trailer, it can get super hot in the spring and summer. Hi Sarah, yes that was some mold spots on your cheese. In most cases you can cut the moldy part off, plus about a quarter of an inch more-that’s if the cheese looks and smells ok. Also, canned items are usually good past the expiration date, if the can is not dented or swollen. If anything, just the quality might be affected a little. I don’t know what boxed item you received though. That’s different than canned, so I would not take the chance. It’s certainly not appetizing anyway, knowing it’s that old. Maybe you can nicely ask the food pantry if you can exchange it.❤
