Hello Josh, i am very sorry to hear about Dillon. Do not lose hope for him, remember that God hears our prayers and despite whatever we do He loves us. Dillon needs your prayers.
I know how you feel. But we have this: "And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry." My mother died in the hospital 3 weeks after a car accident, 2 months ago. It has been the most difficult time in my life, but she was a devout Catholic and frequented confession..Thank you for these videos, they are helping me accept her death. I pray she has made it to heaven. I had a dream where I hugged her and she was surrounded by a white light
May God rest her soul. Pray for her, give alms for her and make you sure you do everything you can to end up in Heaven as well so you can see and be near her for eternity.
THANYOU ?????? - this guy I was into but here he is talking rubbish. Perhaps read the bible - Do you really think the Old Testament saints are in Hell? = WAKE UP DUDE - something is seriously wrong here. Its called critical thinking you should try it sometime. I hope you are blessed with knowledge of the bible and discernment - Be blessed and read your Bible - Take care - May Jesus show you the way I pray amen
If you think how many kinds of sin there are, then you might think that all your efforts are hopeless. That there isn't any chance of salvation. That's were God's mercy takes place. God knows that we can't be perfect, but He wants us to struggle in order to show Him our love and prove that we are His children. That's what I think...
My father was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. My mom and I are going through the stages of grief at the same time we are doing our best to help my dad prepare for death. He will die in faith, thank God! Thank you, Father for this video it was of great consolation!
My mother loved God but was Protestant. She prayed for me all my life until she passed, and I think that is part of the reason I recently came to accept Jesus Christ. Since learning about the heresies of Protestantism, I have wept for her soul knowing she may be in Hell. This video fills me a hope which moves me to tears. I will pray for mercy on her soul all the days of my life now. Thank you Fr. Spyridon.
Father Seraphim Rose and Father Spyridon both agree that a Protestant who hasn't converted to orthodoxy can still be saved. Father Seraphim Rose goes further and claims that some saved Christians may never know of orthodoxy at all and still be saved.
I believe it is best to leave the destination of our loved one's souls to God. My father passed away today. I will pray for his soul. I'm not orthodox but think there's beyond words and imagination truths involved in the Orthodox Church. Mysteries they call it. Please pray for me a sinner.
The question isn't whether she's in Hell or not, it's what strata of Heaven she is in. The closer your beliefs and practices are to the true theology, the higher you can get.
And don't forget the reason for the Protestant Reformation. It was to try to return to the Church of the first Millennia (as we now know is the Orthodox Church). Many Protestants don't realise this but they did know, at least, that they had to flee from the corruption of Rome.
thank you Father for this teaching i lost my father recently and as Ethiopian orthodox we pray as family and let the priest pray for him in there prayer as well , i believe God our lord the merciful will show mercy on my Father and let the angles of light guide him into heaven amen. thank you hearing have given my soul a rest and made me so happy . thank you and God bless you

@@hillbillytarzan First, ask yourself, if the meaning of that passage is as obvious as you believe it it's, then how did it go unnoticed for 1500 years? Did it really take until the reformation for true christianity to emerge? Second, men are literally called 'Fathers' in the bible (John 4:12, 1 John 2:13-14, Acts 7:1-2, 1 Corinthians 4:14-15). How do you reconcile that? Did the apostles break Christ's word in doing so? The simple answer is you don't call anyone Father in the same sense that you say "our Father". All authentic fatherhood flows from the Fatherhood of God (eph 3:14-25). Lastly, the verse right before that one also mentions teachers. Why do protestants not have a problem calling others teachers? You're picking and choosing what to take literally, divorced from the church and tradition that gave you the bible.
Dear Father, my mother died 30 years ago at the age of 39. I was raised a spiritualist but I often saw little glimpses of a Christian faith in her. I had always been drawn to Christianity even as a small child but the switch was hard due to very differing views between spiritualism and Christianity. She was a good woman and I had trouble reconciling her faith with what I was being taught; that she had been destined for hell. But I eventually reconciled it by passing it to God and trusting Him as to the fate of my beloved mother. I felt that God would do what was right and I had confidence to trust in that. I do not know where my mother abides but in God I trust in whatever. As I trust in God upon my death. I am a sinner, may the Lord have mercy on me, but I fear not death as God knows every inch of us, even what we do not know about ourselves - both right and wrong. We live in a world where trust for earthly authority is constantly eroded but, at the same time, enhances our trust in God. I do not fear death as I know I will be rightly judged although Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy upon me a sinner! Amen.
God's mercy is our restoration. God's love is our restoration.. Finally Eden will be restored.. All will reach eternity by his grace, love and mercy. Only love, faith and hope remains forever. Great is Love. Mighty Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless all.

I found your videos about a week ago and have enjoyed watching them. Though I was raised in a "protestant" faith tradition, I rather enjoy hearing insight(s) from other Christian traditions. There are rich traditions of faith and practice from the saints and Church Fathers that the modern Church needs desperately, and I hope for the unity they might bring. Thank you for your insight Father Spyridon, it is always quite enlightening.

Yes, and as St Anthony saw, the demons could not touch those untied to Christ. So the questions we must each ask ourselves are "Am i truly united to Christ? have I repented? Is there someone I haven't forgiven? Do I still have unconfessed sins? Is my life ruled by passions?"

Im 17 years old and Im born and raised in Sweden, I am baptist in a orthodox church as a child. One year ago I really started to have a relationship with God, I've really grown. I also realist how sinful my life used to be and I grieved, cried and repented. There is one problem and that is that we dont have any Orthodox church were they speak Swedish or English in Sweden and its kind of unconfterble to go to Arab speaking Orthodox churches because I dont understand or speak Arabic. My family never goes to church but my grandpa is a really religoius orthodox believer and he told me that I could go to the swedish Church even though they are Lutherans they are very open and I have attended that church and they took me and some other people on a trip to greece and we went to orthodox churches and other places. I would love some advice on what to do. Is it bad in anyway for me as a orthodox to go to a Lutheran church for masses? Btw they know Im orthodox but they are very open and welcomming so I can be a Orthodox while being in that church. I'm trying to do the best of my situation. I plan on going to church myself because my family doesnt seem very interested so thats why i'd like to understand what the priests are saying. I dont really know what to do? God Bless!
Many of our questions about the soul after death are answered in the Akathist for the Repose of the Departed, found in the Book of Akathists, Holy Trinity Publications, Jordanville. The Akathist prays for murderers, those that took their own lives, those who are heretics, died in famines floods fires and other disiaters, those that died without repentance etc...
Fr. Spyridon, it is the mercy of God and His blessing that I heard this message. For years as a protestant, I never knew this to be possible... Though I had still prayed for my departed mother seeking God's mercy (even though this is not taught to us). Your words, and those of other Orthodox Christians have shed new light in my understanding about the Christian faith. May I know if this practice of praying for the departed has been followed by the church fathers of even 1st century?

(2 Maccabees 12,43-44)
As an Eastern Orthodox inquirer (from Traditional Catholicism) so much of Eastern Orthodoxy makes sense to me now. I fully believe in the toll houses. One thing I'm still not clear on..Doesn't the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus contradict the Orthodox view of hell? "..Between us and you a GREAT CHASM IS ESTABLISHED TO PREVENT ANYONE FROM CROSSING WHO MIGHT WISH TO GO FROM OUR SIDE TO YOURS OR FROM YOUR SIDE TO OURS." (Luke 16:26). Doesn't that contradict the view that a soul can be moved out of hell?
A soul cannot move out of hell the same way a prisoner cannot leave his cell. But the prison's warden can open the way, and freely move the prisoner around. That is, God can do whatever he wants.
@@gianp33God can do whatever he wants but the Bible says it is everlasting torment friend. I dont know if you have already covered this, but what is the difference between the soul and the spirit? I have some ideas but would like clarification
This is something I have thought a lot about. My understanding was that when we die, we go into a sort of sleep state until the Second Coming and judgement. And yet, Christ said to the thief on the cross that he would be with Him in Paradise that same day.
My grandfather took his own life, I pray for him but I do not feel that he is with God. As a christian it hurts me so much to think that he is damned to hell, I hope my prayers help.
O Christ our God, You are worshiped at all times and in all places and are glorified both in heaven and on earth. You are patient, generous in mercy, rich in compassion, loving to the just and merciful to the sinner. You call all of us to repentance through the promise of blessings to come. O Lord, receive our supplications at this very hour. Direct our lives in the way of Your commandments. Sanctify our souls, purify our bodies, set our minds aright, cleanse our thoughts, deliver us from all affliction, wrath, danger and need. Surround us with Your holy angels, so that, guided and guarded by their ranks, we may reach unity of the faith and the knowledge of Your unutterable glory. You are blessed unto ages of ages. Amen
i’m a christian exploring the orthodox faith. i’m still so confused about the being given a foretaste of heaven or hell. i guess more so i’m terrified that i’ll be given a foretaste of hell. do you hold similar beliefs to catholics about mortal and venial sins? if i repent in my heart but haven’t gotten a chance to confess and i die will i be given a foretaste of hell?
Where is it written that God can move souls from Hell to Heaven? Does not the parable of Lazarus say that a gulf is fixed between the Rich Man and Lazarus, and they cannot cross?
Father, can you do a video about those who did not hear the good news and perished? Does the message when christ descended into hades apply to them? How would this work? Can they be given a second chance or just one chance either on earth or hell
Thank you for the video. I have a few questions that I’m struggling with. 1. If God can change the eternal resting place of the dead, out of mercy, then why doesn’t he do it for everyone, out of love? 2. Do our prayers have the ability to make God better? Like, if it is good that a person repents, and we pray for that repentance, and God grants that repentance; did our prayers cause God to do more good than He would have otherwise? 3. If God’s justice can be sated by His mercy, then why did Christ have to die? Romans 4 says that it was so He could be both just and the justifier of the ungodly. It appears that the merits of Christ are what gets you into paradise. So how can our prayers appropriate that to our fallen loved ones? And if they were Christian, accepting Christ’s Atonement, why would the prayers be necessary? Thank you!
How is this vision (ie. aerial tollhouses) of the after life any different from the Roman Catholic Church's belief in Purgatory? Furthermore, do Orthodox Christians have to believe in aerial tollhouses?
Father Spyridon, if you don't mind, could you tell me if your prayers need to be specific? I can, I assume, pray for "all mankind," or for "those who have died incognito, with no one to pray for them." In addition, am I allowed to pray for the salvation of the devil and his fallen angels (though futile)?
Hello, in our liturgical prayers we frequently pray generally for the sick, those in captivity etc. So yes, we can pray generally as well as for specific people. The demons are beyond redemption, they have so utterly rejected God and embraced evil that there is no point in praying for them. Better to pray to ask God to defend you against them.
Can someone please explain Ephesians 2 to me please? When I’ve read it it’s talking about life here as sinners when we come to Christ our old self dies. Where did the EO get that it’s after we die? I’m inquiring EO so I mean no harm just truly want to understand
Father, me, as poor wounded soul from Malaysia... I already opposing a film about reincarnation. We mainly reject this because this against our teaching about the souls. The title of that movie is Mentega Terbang (Butter Fly). Even this not related to us, this is what people trying to toying what we believe.
Father, my heart is breaking. I remember Roe vs. Wade, my mother’s tears and anger over abortion. It’s about 50 years later and the people of Kentucky in the USA had the chance to stop the slaughter of innocent babies, but they turned a blind eye to this horrible sin. They are people like unto Herod indeed. How does the orthodox religion see these poor babies souls? I was taught that there’s a limbo of peace and happiness. What do you say?
Luke 23:43 - Jesus answered him, "Truly I tell you, TODAY you will be with me in paradise." The criminal did not have time to cooperatively "work out" his salvation and progression towards Theosis. If i'm understanding Fr. Spyridon correctly, St. Anthony the great of the desert's vision of aerial toll houses appears to be in contradiction to Jesus's statement. I'm going to take Jesus at his word, continue to be obedient to Him and simply not worry about the mechanics of the state of the soul after death.
Interesting. Something else I'd never heard that our loved ones departed can pray for us. Wow. I'll see if I can get a copy of the book. What do you think about the death of animals please? I bless all my pets and never worry. If God has his hand upon them. Do you give us food for thought! Thank you and stay safe from the virus.
Helen Taylor Look up Saint Modesta early centuries - animals The animals do not have a soul like ours but they too have a soul of which is part of the EARTH - IX
Pray for your pets whatever the priests tell you, even our dear and much respected Father Spyridon. As he is English, he must love animals. I hope you like his answer.
As a dog lover I share your sentiments, but we must not allow our feelings to colour our theology. Animals are not created in the image of God, they will not be resurrected on Judgement Day. Though Isaiah certainly gives an image of paradise as having animals, this does not mean our pets live for ever. We must be careful, not because it raises animals too high, but more that in doing so we are blurring the distinction between man and the animal kingdom. This is a Satanic trick that leads to the devaluing of humanity.
I will be gone soon Father Spyridon, I have real bad cancer and it is in my liver, abdomen, nodes, bones my back is fractured, a naphrostamy tube in my back, stent and my arse is bleeding I am in a ton of pain
Father, would you please share the names of the Holy Fathers who have believed that God will move an unrepentant soul who has been prayed for by us into Paradise at the Last Judgment? Some clergy who have said it have believed in universal salvation as well...I have read specific saints who have said God does not offer that but does offer the comfort you mention before that Day...thank you in Christ!
Orthodox believers, how do i reconcile this with the Bible? I see verses of spiritual warfare etc but never about these temptations after death. I see Paul speak of leaving the body and immediately being in the presence of the Lord. And with Lazarus and the rich man Lazarus immediately went to paradise, carried by an angel. So where does this stuff come from? I’m asking genuinely.
Purgatory is when you are saved but you die with sins on your soul or you are in a state of habitual sin… purgatory is the cleansing, but you are already saved. The prayers help the person in Purgatory, but in purgatory all are saved and will reach heaven. Once someone is in Hell you don’t get out.
My book "TRAMPLING DOWN DEATH BY DEATH" details the Orthodox understanding of death and the journey of the soul in more detail.

3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
4 Let them now that fear the Lord say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
5 I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place.
6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

13 Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the Lord helped me.

15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly.
16 The right hand of the Lord is exalted: the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly.
17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
18 The Lord hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord:
20 This gate of the Lord, into which the righteous shall enter.
21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.
22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
23 This is the Lord's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.
26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.
27 God is the Lord, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.
28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee.

Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me. Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me. For, behold, thou lovest truth: thou hast manifested to me the secret and hidden things of thy wisdom. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be purified: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. Thou shalt cause me to hear gladness and joy: the afflicted bones shall rejoice. Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in my inward parts. Cast me not away from thy presence; and remove not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation: establish me by thy directing Spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and ungodly men shall turn to thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation: my tongue shall joyfully declare thy righteousness. O Lord, thou shalt open my lips; and my mouth shall declare thy praise. For if thou desiredst sacrifice, I would have given: thou wilt not take pleasure in holocausts. Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit: a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, to Sion in thy good pleasure; and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. If you think how many kinds of sin there are, then you might think that all your efforts are hopeless. That there isn't any chance of salvation. That's were God's mercy takes place. God knows that we can't be perfect, but He wants us to struggle in order to show Him our love and prove that we are His children. That's what I think...
My mother passed away in her sleep on October 6, 2022 😭. It hurts me so much, but I know she's with our Lord Jesus Christ ✝️ in heaven. 🕊️

My father was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. My mom and I are going through the stages of grief at the same time we are doing our best to help my dad prepare for death. He will die in faith, thank God! Thank you, Father for this video it was of great consolation!
May God be with us in our sorrowful times.
Protestant is more schismatic vs heretical. Imho

Matthew 23:9
@@hillbillytarzan do you call your dad “dad”?
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.
As a Southern Baptist, it is an encouragement to hear this. Thank you
Dear Father, my mother died 30 years ago at the age of 39. Amen.
Amen
May God Bless You.
And may He have mercy upon your Mother.

Neither death or life, angels or demons can seperate us from the "love of Lord".
Romans 8

@Father Spyridon
Amen Amen Amen.
5:03, quotations of the saints.
Why pray for the devil ,he doesn't want salvation
Hello, in our liturgical prayers we frequently pray generally for the sick, those in captivity etc. So yes, we can pray generally as well as for specific people. The demons are beyond redemption, they have so utterly rejected God and embraced evil that there is no point in praying for them. Better to pray to ask God to defend you against them.

Pray for your pets whatever the priests tell you, even our dear and much respected Father Spyridon. As he is English, he must love animals. I hope you like his answer.
Read what saint Francis of Assisi said about animals 🙏
As a dog lover I share your sentiments, but we must not allow our feelings to colour our theology. Animals are not created in the image of God, they will not be resurrected on Judgement Day. Though Isaiah certainly gives an image of paradise as having animals, this does not mean our pets live for ever.
We must be careful, not because it raises animals too high, but more that in doing so we are blurring the distinction between man and the animal kingdom. This is a Satanic trick that leads to the devaluing of humanity.

Barokhmo Abona (Aramaic). I just wonder what the orthodox church’s view is where Jesus went between death and resurrection? Gods blessing❤
