    This was a fantastic interview. I especially enjoyed the segment on where to begin. My path would have been much easier if I had that kind of guidance when I started. But my story wouldn't be the same if anything had been different, it all culminated in creating the person I am today. Nonetheless, I am still envious of the beginners on this path who have access to this kind of guidance.
    Choosing a specific discipline or tradition is a very daunting task. The phenomenon described by JMG of a student putting down one book when they get bored with it and swapping it out for another is highly common. I did it several times throughout my life. I think following through with a course of study is key to the process of finding out what works for you, and of course what doesn't work for you as well.
    I think of magical/occult traditions as being very similar to a user interface, or an operating system, and the unseen world as similar to a CPU. In the end all user interfaces and operating systems accomplish the same goal, communicating with the CPU and allowing for the operation of various programs. It's all a matter of finding the right user interface for your needs and goals. A user interface for lawyer will look different than an interface for a school teacher, because their needs and goals are different. This same line of logic can be applied to choosing an occult path. Individual seekers should take in to consideration their religious and theological leanings, whether they work better alone or in a group, their ethics, their life goals, their needs, and what they want to get out of the practice overall. I highly recommend an occult seeker journal on these things as that will help them decide which expression of magic they will relate to best and get the most out of.
    Keep up the great work!

    Thank God John Michael Greer loves to talk cuz this interviewer... Man. But always love listening to John, hands down my favorite contemporary Occult practitioner and Author, so it was totally worth it. (I'm pretty sure he's the Reincarnation of Merlin also, so that's pretty cool as well😅) SMIB /G\

    We are all magicians with most being unconscious of the fact . that everything manifested in our lives, be them good, bad or indifferent are self created, thus a definition of magic 'making things happen' . LOL

    this might sound silly but are there books which present a kind of ontology of some occult systems or thinkers (like what exists, what is real) and something like a theoretical grounding for laymen before actual practice? on what grounds do these people believe that there are unseen beings and so on?

    • @SujanraAcoma
      @SujanraAcoma 2 роки тому +2

      Unseen beings as discussed, by definition, cannot be seen by any of the tools we use to construct ontologies. That’s what makes them unseen. Their presence can only be inferred from individuals’ subjective experience. Kinda like how physicists can’t PROVE dark matter exists, because it doesn’t interact with any of the instruments we use to perceive material reality. It only interacts via gravity. So we can infer it exists because the visible mass-energy of the galaxies we see isn’t enough to account for their rotational dynamics. Gravity itself is, honestly, arguably an occult force. We know it exists, we know it works, we have a whole lot of theories about HOW, but all of them are speculative and nobody has a clue how to prove any of them. You can’t exactly get out some yarn and measure the curvature of spacetime.
      Thankfully, gravity works in predictable ways, which is information we can use, even though we have no goddamn clue why it works.

      not sure if you're religious. but it's right in the book of psalms that God created the visible and invisible world (which includes angels and all other sorts of un-seen beings).

    Is there a reason why such an exorbitant price is being charged for Israel Regardie's *The Golden Dawn*? Even on kindle, £35 Sterling.
    I got a copy for 20 punts in an occult shop here in Dublin city back in the 1980s.

    • @grimble4564
      @grimble4564 4 роки тому +1

      There's either more of a market for it now and publishers are always profit-driven by nature of being a financial entity, or there are less copies being printed so the price has to go up in order for the companies to make a return on investment. Try your luck with finding a used copy.

    It’s hard to imagine that adults could believe such stuff? Right up there with Zombies and vampires. The guy said that : “There nothing wrong with a little danger.” That’s naive in my opinion; the powers of Satan is real and not good!
