Really thoughtful set up. We used to have rabbits... about 30-100... for those starting out I'd recommend suspended cages from the roof whenever you can... build trusses between the upright posts for the roof rather than floor supports. Access the rabbits from the outside. Leave a corridor inside ( person height). It makes cleaning much easier. Underneath you can have chickens because they can supplement their diet with rabbit droppings and convert the fallen alfalfa and hay into compost without moving anything for months. Surround the chicken area with 45 cm metal sheeting so that you can use a deep mulch system. The chickens control fly maggots. Collect your rainwater from the roof, or set up water tanks for collecting well water and set up an automated drinking water system. Have drop down tarps for extreme cold events. Construct egg boxes that can be accessed from the outside. Always bring the buck to the Doe's house for mating and remove him promptly. We had timber sided squares with flywire mesh bases ( incase the mother urinates) filled with straw for the newborn kittens placed in the corner of the doe' s cage. We grew amaranth, alfalfa, rocket, carrot tops and grasses as supplementary rabbit feed. Coriander can stop rabbits breathing. Olive oil placed in the rabbit ears can control ear mites. If you ever have to introduce a new rabbit to a cage already occupied by a rabbit, rub the new rabbit in the droppings and straw of the other rabbit. If you are combining litters because one is too small, rub the new kittens in the fur of the adopting mother so that they smell right before placing in the nest.
We found your channel about a tear ago to start learning. Always great content and many ways of raising rabbits. We are in Maine so the climate is about the same. July had a few hot weeks where we ended up putting plastic down on our garage floor, shavings and pallets to elevate them a little. Then added an a/c unit! Very novice idea but we had babies on the way. Thanks sooooo much for all your advice in your videos. We will soon be moving them back outside to a more permanent structure.
That’s terrific. I’m so glad you like the channel. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your comment. Best of luck with your rabbitry production.
We are just starting. We purchased 3 silver fox, 2 does and a buck, and a breeding pair of New Zealands were given to us with 4 kits about 6 weeks old. 4 days after they were given to us, the doe had 10 babies! They are four weeks old today. One of our silver fox does is do any day with her first litter. I built a 8 x 10 shed that has cages hanging in it, 6 cages for now, about to add more. Love your videos, very informative.
I'm just getting started with rabbits, my daughter invested her savings to do this. It's been good for us and your channel has been so helpful....thank you!

I have a beautiful bunny. He lives in the house with us. He is litter trained. Just a great addition to our family. We have a dog, cat and the bunny and they all hang out together.
I've sold rabbits to several co-workers. Some of them still email me about once a month with pictures of their rabbits napping with the dog or cat. I'm always sharing with new pet owners how fast they'll make friends with the family dog and cat. Thanks for sharing.

the rabbit cage is good, the cleanliness must be good so the rabbit doesn't get sick. also the tools for drinking are also good. good luck.and you can eat hay for your rabbits
Thanks for the great video as always! We breed for show, meat and fur. Love your passion for the rabbits. I feel the same way. They are a great animal to have on the farmstead!
In some parts of the country there are shows going on. The hemmoragic disease effecting rabbits around the country is probably shutting down more shows than covid. Sad either way.
Thanks for the videos I've been watching many I am very interested in starting a small urban farm I guess is what they call it. I live in town so not a lot of room .17 of an acre but I plan to utilize it the best I can we have a decent backyard. I want to raise rabbits mostly to feed my family but if I can find ways to make some income with it as well selling rabbits I want to do that also. I also plan to raise chickens as our town allows upto 6 chickens I have built the Hen house so far soon to add the chicken run. Trying to find out as much as I can first to get a good system in place to manage it well and keep track of everything.
Thanks for putting up this great video bobby really helped me understand your system. Just got a last doubt are the grow out cages and does cages connected or not other than that great video bobby. Keep rocking..... Luv ur videos😘😘😘😘
The grow out cages are separate from the kindling cage tote and run. We only do that because we need to have access to the rabbits when we sell them in a few weeks this way we can watch them pull them out look at them easily. We wouldn’t be able to do that if they were running up and down the ramp in the kindling cage
We’ve bred for show, however in doing so you will have rabbits that have disqualifications, those we sell as pets or end up in the freezer. It’s a win win for us.
Do you have a video on cleaning cages? It is the worst for us! I feel like there has got to be a better way or I am doing something wrong. Thank you for great resources!
That sounds like a good video idea. This time of year there’s lots of webs and you can use a broom to remove webbing. I also use a separate cage for quarantining. I simply remove the rabbit to that cage and remove the cages one by one, scraping the cage floor bottoms with a brush, a putty knife, and a propane torch, and then scrape the framing, and you can even power wash in the summertime. A rabbitry certainly needs annual maintenance. You can also entertain hanging your cages, so less manure accumulates. Best of luck!
In this video I discuss rabbit cage space Only problem is I'm describing cuft but calling it sqft. A lot of info regardless. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/_VayAwnzmPs/v-deo.html

I love your setup. Excited to hear about the upcoming videos. I think it's great that rabbits have so many uses, but I personally see them as livestock first and foremost.
my does bred on the 8th and the 9th of May. it is the 26th now and the are pulling out fur , nesting and breathing as if they are in labor. is it common for them to get ready this early
Are they hot? No it's not common. In some cases when your rabbit nest early let's say day 18 it can be a sign of a false litter. But day 24 only a few days difference can be completely different situation. Start palpating at 10-14 days to learn to feel developing embryos. ua-cam.com/video/6G9Bq0FxJmY/v-deo.html
Hello Bobby. Off topic to this video. But would you ever combine litters. I built a 16ft x 3ft x 30in for grow outs. I combined 3 litters with a total of 21 kits. Did not really have any issues. Other than when a buyer came to purchase and asked if they were sisters.
if you had 3 litters that are the same color, i’d recommend using a permanent marker and marking the inside of their left ear with a permanent marker -marking 1 next litter 2 and the third litter you can leave unmarked- this should last about 2 weeks -this way you know at a later date which rabbits belong to which litter. when rabbits are young, they won’t fight and you won’t have a problem. It’s only when they get older, and they start to establish maturity they start to get more aggressive and battle. thanks for asking!
10-12weeks unless I'm pairing them with another rabbit. If your have g trouble selling this video may help you HOW TO MARKET YOUR RABBITS/HOW TO SELL YOUR RABBITS ua-cam.com/video/O0GBtEBFMKQ/v-deo.html
Curious, on a previous video you said you rebreed your does at 2 weeks after kindling. On this video you said 4 weeks. Which is better ? Loving your videos and topics! Thank you!
I might of miss spoke I rebreed the doe when the kits reach 4 weeks which in the spring summer and fall is 2 weeks after we put them into the grow out cage- thAnks for watching
Marco Diaz good question there’s more than enough air in the tote. kits need very little . Wild rabbits bury there litter with a small pocket of air for her kits
@@TheRabbitryCenter eny time boby love the channel I wonder if its possible to ship a rabbit lol or. May be I'll come visit sum time I got u a Flemish giant if it possibly they grow 4 feet or longer
you may want to consider building a cage 2’ x 2’ tall by 8 feet long for four rabbits. They may need their own cage 30 x 30 x 18” as early as five months old to prevent battling. You may enjoy this video. ua-cam.com/video/sftPHZcv_to/v-deo.htmlsi=zB04xXUf2Hfsf4SH

My doe is producing low litter. 4 in January, 2 in May and 1 in October. The May bunnies had one defect on both arm and legs so laying in belly. The October litter still have the same defect. The weight comparison of the defect bunny is about five times the weight of the healthy bunny of a different doe. Any advice. From Ghana
When breeding be sure to keep the doe with the buck for 30 minutes / re-breed (if she’ll allow it) 8 to 10 hours later to maximize the number of kits Doe’s will have big litters for 2 to 3 years after that their numbers will go down and need to be replaced You may want to replace the Doe
Hi. I have a question. I have a female and male (nzr) with pedegree that I would like to breed in the best way. How should I think when I mate? I want the buoy to bring out three females and have one male as a breeding group. The first mating is easy :) as it is only the two to choose from, it is then there is a stop in my head! Do you have a good drawing for how I can do? How often should I change females? How do I replace the male with a new one from a litter? I also have a Rex male and a mixed female (German giant check / gotland) which I would like to test out as they are both so calm and nice, grow well, large litters and great mothers. Thank you so much for a great channel and for bringing up everything imaginable with developing a rabbit farm! Big hug to you all the way from Sweden :)
I will be sure to make a video on how to grow your rabbitry with just a few rabbits stay tuned for that. I’ll start working on it right away. Thanks for watching
Could you answer a question for me, please? I woke up to one of my girls with a bare spot and light scabbing on her dewlap. She's six months old, haven't bred her yet, and am currently treating her for ear mites. I assumed stress because of the ear drops or possibly false pregnancy, but I don't want to just ignore it either, if it might be something more serious, I don't want to let her suffer; have any ideas? Thank you so much, for all the information you provide for the community.
Yea don't worry its probably scabbed from the skin being irritated. Warm soapy water works wonders. I'd lightly clean and pat the irritation with a cloth clean it and see if gets better in a few days.
I raise rabbits too, and found this video very interesting! You have such a unique method. What made you decide to do the totes? I've read a lot of breeding studies about inbreeding and line breeding. I'll be interested in hearing your take on it. I've developed my own "breed" per say so almost all of my rabbits are related somehow. I'm breeding gen 5s now without any issues yet.
Here’s some videos. That will answer some questions and will help you get your rabbits through the winter time ua-cam.com/play/PLNYLb_YcNZX1a2ro_10aliXRZsjqP0XTl.html
What's the max number of rabbits from a litter that you keep in one 36"x 30" grow out cage? (To prevent overcrowding) I am currently using the rabbit tractor method and find it not practical for my situation.
I keep one buck or one Doe in a 30 x 30 cage My doe’s are kept with their litters in a 30 x 36 cage for six weeks and then I move out my doe to kindle her next litter The litter regardless of size will remain in that cage together and until they’re sold or processed at 12-14weeks
@@darrenhardman6030 yes sir! the rabbits are comfortable with each other and they do not fight being sibling mates from the beginning. we start selling our rabbits right around 7 to 8 weeks and we take reservations from customers scheduling pick up anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks so slowly but surely it gets less and less crowded -you can start harvesting around the same time (depending on what your Rabbitry goals are)to keep your feed prices down or meat price per pound down. I should also mentioned the cages are 18 inches tall that way when Rabbit stand on their rear feet they can eat greens that are placed on the top of the cage This is a great way to feed mom and keep the greens away from the kits so they don’t get diarrhea. Hope that helps!
@@TheRabbitryCenter perfect thank you for your explanation and time! My current cages that house the parents are 30x30x18. I will be changing from the tractor to grow out cages. Again, thank you
I am raising my first trio of standard Rex, and they are at 7 months now. The breeder told me that I should only breed them 3 times a year. Have you found 6 times a year acceptable? I think that you mentioned on the video that the doe is rebred when the kits are 4 weeks old.
Breeding 3x a year is most likely taking winters off. or heat of the summer off. There's many different ways to breed for different reasons. Quantity, Longevity, Here's a video covering a little more. ua-cam.com/video/bUR4-EoQDPs/v-deo.html
Is there a reason not to keep bucks and does right next to each other? I've only had my first doe and buck for a few weeks but I've noticed my buck is a lot messier than the doe, is this normal?
Some rabbits are cleaner than others. male or female. The wall between bucks and does is used placed there because the bucks will pee on the does. They do this to mark the doe as their property. Just use a flimsy yard sign, izip tie it up. A lot of left over political signs this year.
So serious question: I bought a trio of California rabbits. All 3 of them had ear mites and one of them has had a runny nose sense. I’ve tried vet ex, and she’s separated from the other 2. They are each caged separately in huge cages. I obviously didn’t know what I was doing. The sick one is okay and on antibiotics, but if it’s snuffles, they would all have it as the place I got them from, had all their rabbits side by side. Would you breed or get rid of these and get new? How do I get rid of them? Would you try to rehome? I don’t mind it. I dunno if I could get rid of them. I ALWAYS end up getting the special case animals. I get there and I just can’t leave them. I told myself I wouldn’t do that and it was really hard to find any rabbits near me … ugh …. I took them anyways. I’ve had them for about 4 months now and they are ear mite free and have their hair back. They have beautiful markings. They are also a healthy weight now, which they weren’t before. The male has probably gained 5 lbs!! I still can’t pet them, though. They hate it. They jump and I jump 🤣 They prolly think they are hurting me 🤣🤣
@@TheRabbitryCenter they are better as far as the nose running. I think I’ll keep them. I got them for meat breeding, so I guess all my rabbits will have snuffles, but idk? I made a vet appointment just to find out before breeding. I wish there were rabbit classes. 😂 Thank you, though. I learned a lot from your videos.
True confessions-now that I don’t have rabbits anymore (yet!) I have “rabbit dreams” occasionally where I see cages FULL of them!! (Yes, its wierd…) Mostly Californians too!! 😜
Thanks for watching Erica and putting up with that music. Sometimes the volume finalizes a bit louder than intended. It’s supposed to be soft mood capturing music for the background. Are they hot? No it's not common. In some cases when your rabbit nest early let's say day 18 it can be a sign of a false litter. But day 24 only a few days difference can be completely different situation. Start palpating at 10-14 days to learn to feel developing embryos.

You’re very welcome
Great videos, do you have any videos on how many cages are required to breed from one trio?
Depending on when you rebreed it’s good to have one grow out cage per doe
Hi Bobby- I really enjoy watching your videos. At what age do you harvest your rabbits if they don’t sell? And how many grow out cages do you have?
10-12weeks unless I'm pairing them with another rabbit. If your have g trouble selling this video may help you HOW TO MARKET YOUR RABBITS/HOW TO SELL YOUR RABBITS

@@TheRabbitryCenter I’m sorry, that was totally my mistake, I went back and watched again. You were correct, I just misunderstood.
Kindling tote question, do you need to be concerned with adequate oxygen levels?
Marco Diaz good question there’s more than enough air in the tote. kits need very little . Wild rabbits bury there litter with a small pocket of air for her kits
Thanks. Wasn't sure if I just missed that video lol. Selling my first rabbits and giving the people your UA-cam channel to follow and learn from.
Nice video Bobby

@@TheRabbitryCenter eny time boby love the channel I wonder if its possible to ship a rabbit lol or. May be I'll come visit sum time I got u a Flemish giant if it possibly they grow 4 feet or longer
what size of a cage for 3-4 rabbits? where to buy cages & hay and what type?
you may want to consider building a cage 2’ x 2’ tall by 8 feet long for four rabbits. They may need their own cage 30 x 30 x 18” as early as five months old to prevent battling. You may enjoy this video. ua-cam.com/video/sftPHZcv_to/v-deo.htmlsi=zB04xXUf2Hfsf4SH
you can buy cages at TSC. They should last you about 2-3 years or you can purchase on the Rabbitry Center Storefront for cages that are galvanized that will last a lifetime of your rabbitry or you can even build them with the supplies found on that page I’ll include a video and the link to the store front. ua-cam.com/video/z2dsUQ5ddE8/v-deo.htmlsi=fyqP7SAeS4pSxu4V

My doe is producing low litter. 4 in January, 2 in May and 1 in October. The May bunnies had one defect on both arm and legs so laying in belly. The October litter still have the same defect. The weight comparison of the defect bunny is about five times the weight of the healthy bunny of a different doe. Any advice. From Ghana
When breeding be sure to keep the doe with the buck for 30 minutes / re-breed (if she’ll allow it) 8 to 10 hours later to maximize the number of kits
Doe’s will have big litters for 2 to 3 years after that their numbers will go down and need to be replaced
You may want to replace the Doe
i love this channel
Your videos are very informative. I'd like to talk with you about an idea I have if you have the time? Ty

Hey what people usually used the rabbit fur for? Just curious and got no idea what it for 😅🐇🐰
Once rabbit pelts are tanned properly, they can be used as hats, mittens, slippers, coats, vests, and blankets to name a few.
Hope that helps!
@@jeanettehaygood4154 WOW...that a lot of thing you can do with it 😁👍
@@TheRabbitryCenter Thank you so much!!!
Sounds like you know what your doing. I'm excited to share the line breeding video and so curious what the reaction will be.
Any rules on catching, keeping and breeding wild rabbits?

Hi. Did I hear that you said. you feed the rabbits Clver Clover.
Yes they love clover. Giant white clover
What's the max number of rabbits from a litter that you keep in one 36"x 30" grow out cage? (To prevent overcrowding)
I am currently using the rabbit tractor method and find it not practical for my situation.
I keep one buck or one Doe in a 30 x 30 cage My doe’s are kept with their litters in a 30 x 36 cage for six weeks and then I move out my doe to kindle her next litter
The litter regardless of size will remain in that cage together and until they’re sold or processed at 12-14weeks
@@TheRabbitryCenterso the litter stays together whether there are 5 kits or 12 kits in the same 36" x 30" grow out cage, correct?
@@darrenhardman6030 yes sir!
the rabbits are comfortable with each other and they do not fight being sibling mates from the beginning. we start selling our rabbits right around 7 to 8 weeks and we take reservations from customers scheduling pick up anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks so slowly but surely it gets less and less crowded -you can start harvesting around the same time (depending on what your Rabbitry goals are)to keep your feed prices down or meat price per pound down. I should also mentioned the cages are 18 inches tall that way when Rabbit stand on their rear feet they can eat greens that are placed on the top of the cage
This is a great way to feed mom and keep the greens away from the kits so they don’t get diarrhea.
Quantity, Longevity, Here's a video covering a little more. ua-cam.com/video/bUR4-EoQDPs/v-deo.html
aww little wabbits
What is the most popular rabbit to get to breed and sell and keep
There’s lots of good breeds out there but you can’t go wrong with new Zealand’s
Is there a reason not to keep bucks and does right next to each other? I've only had my first doe and buck for a few weeks but I've noticed my buck is a lot messier than the doe, is this normal?
Some rabbits are cleaner than others. male or female. The wall between bucks and does is used placed there because the bucks will pee on the does. They do this to mark the doe as their property. Just use a flimsy yard sign, izip tie it up. A lot of left over political signs this year.
@@TheRabbitryCenter thanks!
So serious question:
I bought a trio of California rabbits.
They jump and I jump 🤣
They prolly think they are hurting me 🤣🤣

@@TheRabbitryCenter they are better as far as the nose running. I think I’ll keep them. I got them for meat breeding, so I guess all my rabbits will have snuffles, but idk? I made a vet appointment just to find out before breeding. I wish there were rabbit classes. 😂
Thank you, though. I learned a lot from your videos.
When you say you sell the rabbits at 7-8 week's to customers with reservations. It that for meat or for pets or is it both?
once they're weaned where do those rabbits go?
Into separate buck and doe cages

How do you keep rats out of the cages ? We have never had a problem but this year they are everywhere 😢
i’m sorry to hear that, try wrapping hardware cloth around your cages
Can I ask what state youre in sir?

How do you make sure ants or pests don't get into your nesting totes? Fire ants here in Louisiana would be all over the kits in a day!
We sprinkle DE ina and around the totes to eradicate any insects
You can also use tangle trap

Really informative but could I vote for no background music next time? It is really distracting.
Thanks for watching Erica and putting up with that music. Sometimes the volume finalizes a bit louder than intended. It’s supposed to be soft mood capturing music for the background. This one is more like music in commercial. I’ll take that into consideration for future videos. Thanks for the feed back.
