My 1974 Mk.3 was used every day for 25 years, proof they make excellent daily use cars, it is now almost 50 years old, and I have owned it 48 years, and bought another two along the way, my 1974 is being restored to Concourse, and when it is finished, it will be used, the same as it was when it was brand new the first time. enjoyed the video, nice seeing all the lovely classics.

A fully restored Mk3? Sounds like the sort of thing we'd like to feature in Classic Ford Magazine...

I visited family in South Africa this year, the amount of classic Fords on the road was a pleasant surprise one local was confused at this Scotsman looking over his old Escort

I came back to watch this as I liked an earlier video that was on this channel. I love the red! It's my favourite colour!! You described all the work you had done very well and you've made a good and decent car even better, well done. I will come back again here. Thank you for sharing your work and the excellent descriptions too.🚘🚗

I had a MK2 escort back in 2017, 2 owners lovely condition, i sold it for complicated reasons, the biggest mistake, i literally cry the day it was sold, instant regret, and this series was the last thing I needed to get another classic car and since October 2022 i have my Mk1 Fiesta, and im loving it 😌
PS: I have the room and money for only 1 car, that's why having a classic was and is a big commitment.

Brings back memories I had three Mk3’s back in the day the 1st a 73 1.6GXL 2nd 1.6 L Kent 3rd a 75 2.0GT Tombstone, loved them all unfortunately the dreaded rust consumed them at an alarming rate. The GXL was my first proper car in dark bronze with a black vinyl roof and the more stylish early dash & dials still my favourite car of all time and I’ve owned many different makes & models I will own one again one day.

Very nice. Though the best classic Mk3 model is the early 1970's 2.0 litre GXL version with twin headlamps.

I can almost smell the slap chips and snoek as you head out to Hout Bay/Baai.

Wonderful, solid old car. If you like this car try importing an Australian version of it…..with a 4.1 litre six!

Find us one, David, and we'll have it! ;)

The car sales website in Australia has a TD 4.1 Cortina for sale, but this site won’t let me send you the link

My Cortina rotted out on both rear wheel arches.. that dash looks like Giha one but looks very tidy .. my cortina was only 1.3L but ran well abet gutless

Fords of this era in Australia were strangled by ADR27a (Australian Design Rule):which was meant to reduce emissions but it made good cars use more fuel and had less power. It was sorted eventually in later models. In this model we had an option of a 4.1 L straight six. Great in a straight line….but…..you know the rest….. 😄 This one looks a ripper.

Unfortunately you have misread the speedo miles
If you look closely, you will see it is reading 11347.9
    (Not 113479)
Back in the seventies, cars only had speedometer going up to 99999.9. I know, because I was learning to drive when the cortical came out.😊

Actually he said it correctly, the car has done 113 thousand klms or around 70000 miles.thats what the cars done, not what it says.we all no they went around the clock at 100,000 back then.this is a cortina by the way not whatever it was you called it lol.car looks great but i preferred the mk2 and mk4 and 5s myself.

Looking at the exhaust manifold, that is a 1600GT Kent. Post-1972 dash, not the older sloping dash.

My father had two of these a 1300L and a 1600XL and my uncle had two 1600xl's and two Mk 4 cars, and the one common thing among them all is they were absolute crap to drive.
Heavy steering, wayward rear end due to the transvers link, 4 speed gearbox even in the 80's and rubbish build quality.
They look great, but thats about it.
I would'nt waste my money on one.
Most of the rivals at the time were much better driving cars.
In fact my fathers mk1 Cortina was a much nicer drive.

Can't say we found any of those issues to be the case with this one...
