    Kind of weird that people can't connect with a loved one that they've spent their whole life with unless some stranger is present.

    • @ocky88
      @ocky88 8 років тому +7

      That is the part I don't buy. I believe in God and believe in the fact that the dead can reach out. I just think they can do it directly. For example, my mother had a visit with my grandmother in a dream right after my grandmother passed. I don't think our loved ones need a middle man to reach us.

      ◎ I believe in God
      ◉ What is "god"?
      ◉ Why would you believe this??
      ◎ believe in the fact that the dead can reach out.
      ◉ The fact? It is certainly not a fact that dead people can "reach out".
      ◉ Why would you believe this??
      ◉ You think people do something else other than die when they die? They continue living somehow?
      ◎ For example, my mother had a visit with my grandmother in a dream right after my grandmother passed.
      ◉ Wait.. are you serious? Your mom had a dream.. and this proves to you that dead people can interact with living people?

    I was in contact with a psychic medium a while ago called Vicky. She did not charge £500 for a shitty reading and is not famous at all. She charged only £20 and what she said during the reading, describing the person on the otherside, was accurate and consistent. Everything in that 45 minutes was spot on. There was nothing that could be described as cold reading. Very specific details were described that only the deceased and I could know. She asked no questions, no fishing for info. She just described it to me for me to say yes or no. The famous psychic mediums are showmen and doing it for effect. In it for the money. But the ones you have never heard of and who don't charge ridiculous amounts of money are most likely very good. I can honestly say she was amazing.

      u b right on. Elwood Babbit RIP was amazing for my reading in 1980. He can be found on an internet search.
      He was not a fake. He told me to reverse a lottery dream number from my deceased father that made me back $70000 stolen from me by my ex wife and disbarred lawyer. His information was correct for another win. Most tv psychics like Long Island psychic…are totally fake. Try UA-cam under fake psychics for much good info. Beware and go by your own feelings on the veracity of ANYTHING you are told. 90% are fakes.

    If this were actually what happened in my own reading I too would have been calling "fraud". The mistake you made here is giving him any answers at all. I did not. Being the skeptic, I called a random number from a blocked phone. I would not give ANY information. My opening comment when she answered the phone was, "“Hi, could you tell me how much you charge?” She answered,
    “I am donation based” I said,“Before I make an appointment with you could you tell me something that lets me know you are real?” She went on the give me the most phenomenal spot on reading. I gave her NOTHING to go on. I was aware of what to look for before I made the call to this woman so I knew what not to do. She later told me I was the most skeptic person she had ever dealt with. This medium told me names, (only the names of my friends and relatives) and specific stories related to each deceased person.
    It is a true shame if this reading is indeed fact. Although James Van Praagh was never my favorite medium, he is highly looked upon in his field. I would love for you to explain to me how my medium got the information for my reading.

Every single celebrity trainer I've ever seen I can so easily pick apart all the things they're doing wrong and in some cases even dangerous. I've worked with so many trainers in my career that were incredibly educated and would put every single celebrity trainer to shame with their knowledge and the exceptional service they give to their clients. Being famous doesn't always equal being the best. Perhaps there is a small population of people out there that are truly psychic. One thing I've heard a lot of people that claim to be psychic say is if they used their gift to make money they would experience bad karma as a result. Perhaps there is a very small population of people that are truly psychic, but no one would ever know who they are because they only use their gift to help people connect with a loved one that has passed and don't pursue money and fame. One of the most frustrating things about psi ability is that it often is either hot or cold. I know from my own experience of accurately receiving info from spirit for a person, that when it works it works. To receive the info,you have to relate (without question or pause) what you are being impressed with in your mind. If a person (client) is sceptical or negative, it creates a block and the imagination of the psychic then is not linked to spirit and ones own ideas come through which is not accurate. I attended one of James workshops some years ago in Houston TX. Not only did I experience psi accuracy from other people from the attendees, but found, felt and experienced my own abilities. I saw James in action and I will tell you when he is "hot" he is right on amazing! He was amazing. Yes, . In this video, . He is "cold" and not connected. This can happen to the best of the best .What he should have done is end the reading and not charged him. He was reaching, struggling and his imagination was running the show. Making no excuse for James shifty reading. However to conclude all psychic readers are frauds because James, being the "best" failed in his reading is not being intellectually honest. That would be like going to a musical show where the singer had a terrible set and conclude all musicians are terrible. Just saying...

      You get what you come for. If you are skeptic you will leave a skeptic. I have done thousands of readings (and not a one over $20). The best readings came to those who were wide open to the experience. An example: A woman sits down and in her enthusiasm for life I start telling her about her home life, her family, and the kind of love that fills her life. She showed me this with my eyes closed. She was blown away. She tells her sister who is far more skeptical. Ms Skeptical sits down and I see nothing. And I told her that. In her eyes I failed because I was supposed to tell her about her dead uncle who in fact was not even remotely a part of her reality or this reading. She invented a way to validate her skepticism. 2 readings, same family, polar opposite effects. it gets good when a reader with their eyes closed starts reciting the inner workings of your life; a complete stranger to the reader. And that happens more often than not for a seasoned psychic.

    The thing I don't get is...if a medium can get information from the dead like "did she give you a ring with a dark stone before she passed?"why wouldn't the medium get clearer information about dates and names? Surely if the dead can tell him something so particular as a piece of jewelry, they can spit out or spell out the name "Roger" LOL..I just don't get it. Besides that, how DARE he PRETEND to talk to your MOTHER and FATHER like that! I think that takes some major audacity and a black heart to look at someone's eyes and pretend to talk to their deceased parents..not only that but to charge you to lie to you? It's pure horseshit. Unbelievable. So..I do have to ask..have you been contacted by JVP since exposing him? You definitely had him shaking in his shoes. Great video..thank you!

      There is a vast difference between the Psychic Realms of disembodied consciousness and the narrow limited skeptic prejudice against anything spiritual outside of the narrow prescribed limits of the mechanical world view. A person who believes they can reach the Spirit World are not lying to you from their point of view. They are using their mind to reach beyond space and time to a realm of psychic consciousness far beyond the limits of physical rational thought. The Realms Within are psychic realms of symbolic reality-not the nuts and bolts of physical being. Names and dates are tedious to psychically aware disembodied consciousness-their reality is a Dream Time- therapeutic reality that processes moment focused physical being to refine and understand the true symbolic nature of immortal being. A spirit may resonate with a personal object symbolically without necessarily remembering specific details from their timeless perspective. Look up George Anderson if you want a better example of a very sincere, sweet, and accurate medium.

    A woman believer posted a lengthy comment on my short version of this video, but for some reason it doesn’t show in the comments section but only on my email. She pointed out that I was way too quick to dismiss the impressive fact that James knew of my deceased sister. Oh really? Let’s check the actual transcript.
    James: “Do you have an older sister?”
    Me: “No, no.”
    James: “Do you have a younger sister?”
    Me: “I had a younger sister, yeah.”
    James: “And she’s passed on.”
    Me: “Yeah.”
    James: “Yep, I get her right next to you, on this side of you over here.”
    Does that sound like a remarkable hit, or like typical fishing, and then salvaging a miss by adjusting, and repeating what I just told him as though he knew it before I told him, which he did not? Come on, mediumship believers. Tell me something specific that only I and my deceased relatives would know. You cannot do that, can you?

    Hi SubwayRatt,
    I don't know how to reach you, so I'll just post this here and hope you see it.
    I have read that Van Praagh fishes ahead of time, and that programs he's involved in are rigged. He was caught on a 20/20 show years ago claiming he did not get info on a person's deceased grandmother ahead of time, but they showed him doing exactly that on another camera that he did not know was already on at the time.
    Transcripts are key, so you can read exactly what is going on, and in what order, otherwise it's easy to get fooled. I took a brief look at the Larry King transcript, and I see he pulls all the same tricks - time shifting, making good guesses, moving on if it's a miss, adjusting to make a miss into a hit, etc. And, he provides utterly useless information. Not to mention, who hasn't had a leg problem at some time in their lives, or been associated with the buying of a car, etc., etc.?
    I think the key, absolutely, is simply one big thing: Is the medium able to come up with some specific thing that ONLY you and the deceased person could possibly know? And, always, the answer is no.
    Check out a short clip "Orson Welles on Cold Reading." Very insightful. Another medium I had a session with did better than Van Praagh - "Miklos Jako and Miss Jean."
    Thanks for your comments.

    • @2994485
      @2994485 10 років тому +1

      OK, I finally found the clip. Yeah, impressive. How did he do it? I don't know, exactly. But notice that he got to pick the person; so that leads me to believe he already had the info on her ahead of time. James, or assistants have been known to circulate among people before a show. And he is very skillful at working information picked up into his act.
      Same thing happened at a recent show of his I went to in NH. Lots of very specific hits. Very impressive. Yet, I know magicians do not REALLY make a tiger disappear. It's a trick, a very clever trick. Same with James. I don't know exactly how he does it, but I know he's not really communicating with dead people.
      Why did he do so badly with me? He clearly said he had my relatives right there, but he gave me wrong information again and again. Same thing with another medium I had a session with - "Talking to the Deceased: Miklos Jako and Miss Jean". She was better than Van Praagh, but she was not able to come up with any specific information that only the deceased person and I would know.

    • @jghaught87
      @jghaught87 10 років тому +2

      His appearance on the view he used several deceiving techniques. First of all he asked 23 different questions. So, he should of had at least 23 hits. Secondly he was using rapid fire statements. He's throwing out statements that could be hits or misses but he immediately jumps to another question or statement before the sitter can respond to the previous questions or statements, making it look like a hit. The third technique uses the same principle as hypnosis. The power of suggestion people think that he must be right, so they make everything fit even when he's wrong. And finally he does hot reading. Along with the spying and eavesdropping by his staff they also make audience members fill out detailed questionnaires before the shows. His appearance on the view could have been done with cold reading alone. However it does look like he was using hot reading.

    • @2994485
      @2994485 10 років тому +3

      Good points jghaught87. I found John Edward and Suzane Northrop also use the rapid fire technique, so you don't have time to reflect on the things they said wrong, and you naturally pick up on only the hits. And I think that on those occasions when mediums are most impressive with specific details, they're doing "hot readings," using information they gleaned ahead of time. Pre-show conversation among audience members I'm sure are filled with nuggets of gold the mediums manage to mine, and expertly use later in the show.
      Of course it's hard to prove any of these tricks they might be using. So a one-on-one session to see if a medium can come up with specific info only the deceased person and an objective client could know, is the key.
      As discouraging as it is to see so many people be so credulous, it great to hear from someone like you who has a better grasp on reality, and human nature.

    Dear Miklos,
    While my personal beliefs regarding clairvoyants, psychic phenomena, etc. may differ from some of what was shared... I must tell you that I was both very impressed and touched by your openness, your investigative intrigue, and your intimate family stories.
    When you spoke of the grace in which your father carried himself, and with your concluding explanation of your view of spirituality by design as a theist, I was moved very much so! Almost to the point of tears!
    Thank you for the thorough work here and for offering an honest, well conducted, opposing view! I may be a New Age, hippie, eccentric of sorts in some regards. However, I was a clinical research scientist for many years. There is always more than meets the eye, better understanding that can be reached by having the willingness to objectively receive the full spectrum of information on any given topic. I believe you provided that here in a rather admirable, neutral way.
    Great work, my friend!

    Having a negative or extremely skeptical attitude can absolutely affect a reading. It can close you off to your own memories. Lying to the reader really confuses things. Reading the other side is all about energies we cannot even comprehend in full on this side. The things you WANT to hear may not be the things which come through. Names can sometimes be extremely difficult to process. I do agree they should be challenged, but I'm not certain this was a fair one.

    • @landl47
      @landl47 9 років тому +1

      Janet Marshall What would any of that matter if the medium really was receiving communications from the deceased? You just gave a parade of excuses because the medium quite clearly was trying to obtain information from the sitter and not getting it. 'Names can sometimes be extremely difficult to process'- what does that even mean? The medium put forward names hoping that the sitter would identify one and give him a hit. When it didn't happen, the medium had no explanation; it was clearly just a fishing expedition.
      I saw nothing unfair here; indeed, the sitter was accommodating. It's just that he didn't fall for the standard cold reading tricks and the medium had nothing else.

    • @Flyonthewall11
      @Flyonthewall11 9 років тому +1

      Not making excuses - While the medium may speak with spirits, they themselves are still human, and being lied to or tricked by the sitter can and does affect the reading.
      If the sitter has certain expectations and beliefs, it can dull his/her ability to resonate with the message. It works best if a sitter can remain open minded and have few expectations.
      Ask any medium, most names are difficult to discern.
      From my experience, James Van Praagh is the real deal, though I admit I've seen him do better!
      Thanks for the opportunity to make my statement more clear.

    • @landl47
      @landl47 9 років тому

      Janet Marshall Thanks for your courteous replay, Janet. However, I do have to point out that if by 'have few expectations' you mean that the sitter shouldn't expect the medium (or the spirits) to get basic facts right, then how do you distinguish a genuine reading from a fake one?
      I'm sure mediums would say that names are very hard to discern, along with any other specific facts known only to the sitter and the deceased. Maybe that's why, under proper controls, none of them can do it?
      If Van Praagh is the real deal, he sure did a good job of hiding it in this video. I have seen many readings, both live and through the media, and I've never seen one that I thought was genuine and couldn't be explained by ordinary, non-paranormal analysis. If you have (and if it is on-line), I'd be fascinated to see it.

    • @rockethead7
      @rockethead7 9 років тому +1

      Janet Marshall
      YOU SAID: "Having a negative or extremely skeptical attitude can absolutely affect a reading."
      -- Why?
      YOU SAID: "It can close you off to your own memories."
      -- But the "medium" isn't claiming to tap into YOUR memories. The "medium" says he's talking to dead people. He even breaks away pretending to have conversations/dialogs with the dead people.
      YOU SAID: "Lying to the reader really confuses things."
      -- Confuses things? No. Exposes things? Yes. It exposes that it's a hoax.
      YOU SAID: "Reading the other side is all about energies we cannot even comprehend in full on this side."
      -- Says who? The people who are getting paid to say they can talk to dead people?
      YOU SAID: "The things you WANT to hear may not be the things which come through."
      -- If what you WANT to hear is actual decisive proof that the "medium" is talking to a dead person, sure, it's NEVER going to come through, and never has come through. There's never been a single verifiable example of a "medium" who has been able to relay any kind of relevant information that only the dead person would know. I can live with the idea that it doesn't work every time ---- **IF** the "mediums" could even show that it works "sometimes"!!!! I mean, did you listen to the utter babbling?? Van Praagh rambles on about utterly insignificant stuff, which nobody could possibly give a crap about. If you can't see that it's clearly just the standard "cold reading" and "warm reading" techniques that all of these fraudsters use, then you're blind as a bat. I mean, good actors who have been trained to pretend to be "mediums" and how to perform "cold reading" and "warm reading" techniques have done these for people who think they're talking to "real" mediums... and those people can't even tell the difference between the "real" medium and the "acting" medium. In other words, people willing to fall for this stuff will fall for this stuff no matter who's doing the reading!! And, then, when the track record is no better than random guessing, they fall back on the same catch-all nonsense... "oh, it doesn't work every time." I mean, look at the insignificant or easily-assumed/guessed stuff here. A lot of these things these mediums say have about 50/50 odds of being correct. So, when they're correct, they say it's because the dead told them something. When they're incorrect, they say "it doesn't work every time." I'm shocked that someone as clearly intelligent as you are can actually fall for this silliness. But, even worse, when these so-called "mediums" try to guess at things with odds of about 1 out of 100 of being right (they'll rarely stick their necks out that far, but when they do), and then they are wrong 99 times out of 100, STILL, people (like you) use this "it doesn't work every time" defense.
      YOU SAID: "Names can sometimes be extremely difficult to process."
      -- Pffft. Again, why? Because the person getting paid to talk to dead people says so? I mean, it's sure contradictory when they say they're sooooo sure that they're getting a clear message about everything else, but they can't manage to come up with a name?? I mean, Van Praagh is sitting there, claiming to have a back and forth dialog with ghosts, but whenever he's asked to produce any kind of real definitive evidence, what does he do?? He just says "it doesn't work that way." Well, it NEVER works that way.
      YOU SAID: "I do agree they should be challenged, but I'm not certain this was a fair one."
      -- Then you weren't paying attention. Van Praagh says that he's getting very clear energy readings, and claims to know the identities of these ghosts he's talking to. If it wasn't fair, and things were less "clear" because the skeptic was somehow clouding the readings, wouldn't Van Praagh have been the first to realize it?? I mean, how many times did Van Praagh say definitively "yes, got it, got it, got it, I understand, it's clear" when he thinks he got a hit?? When he gets a hit, he says it's crystal clear.
      YOU SAID: "Not making excuses"
      -- Pffttt. She says as she makes excuses.
      YOU SAID: "While the medium may speak with spirits, they themselves are still human, and being lied to or tricked by the sitter can and does affect the reading."
      -- Why? Because the person getting paid to talk to dead people says so? Again, if Van Praagh had a 10th of the ability he claims to have, you'd think the guy would know when his "readings" aren't working. But, nope, he said it's working great, and said things are very clear. Then, he struck out, time and again.
      YOU SAID: "If the sitter has certain expectations and beliefs, it can dull his/her ability to resonate with the message."
      -- Yeah, and if the "sitter" is a devout believer in such claptrap, then it can dull his/her ability to think clearly about what's being said, recognizing the cold reading techniques being used on him/her, and ultimately ends up riddled with extreme confirmation bias. (Basically, the person believes it because he/she WANTS to believe it.) Honestly, why is it that none of these miraculous "mediums" are ever able to put their readings through any true double-blind scientific test? Most of them aren't even willing to try (they don't want to give up their livelihood of pretending to talk to dead people, so they won't take any such risk). But, those of them who have been willing to put their "powers" through scientific testing have failed miserably, EVERY time.
      YOU SAID: "It works best if a sitter can remain open minded and have few expectations."
      -- Yup, it "works" better that way... their minds are so open that their brains fell out.
      YOU SAID: "Ask any medium, most names are difficult to discern."
      -- Is that a joke? OF COURSE mediums are going to tell you that it's difficult to discern names. If any single one of them ever claimed it was easy to discern names, then the next question would be, "why can't you do it, then?"!!!!! Holy crap. Can you really be THAT gullible? They can't read names clearly?? NAMES?? In the human mind, names are how people identify themselves, and others. Names are core to the thought process itself. Daddy and Mommy are the very first words that most babies learn (names). Babies learn how to say names before they even understand what a verb is, what a noun is, what an adjective is. NAMES come first. When you're in a crowded room, and 100 people are talking, having conversations you're not even paying attention to, you're able to pick up when someone says your name, or the name of someone you love. In the human experience, names are one of the most important communicating factors. Yet, "mediums" will have you believe that once you die, somehow names become the most difficult thing to communicate. Pffftttt. The mediums can hear very clearly all about weird insignificant nonsense, but they can't pick up on names very well??? He says has a clear conversation with a dead person about "passing a building in order to get to a grave" - oh, but names, nope, never comes through clearly. And, what cemetery doesn't have a building nearby?
      YOU SAID: "From my experience, James Van Praagh is the real deal, though I admit I've seen him do better!"
      -- Yes, sometimes people can flip coins and have it come up heads more often. Sometimes they flip them and it comes up tails more often. So what? When you close your eyes and throw darts at a wall, sure, sometimes you'll get lucky and hit something. Why would you think that anything supernatural is going on? NONE of them have EVER been able to demonstrate any of this ability under and scientific scrutiny.
      YOU SAID: "Thanks for the opportunity to make my statement more clear."
      -- You are the most clear example of "confirmation bias" that I've seen in a while. You want to believe something, and therefore when you see "hits" you think it's real, and you disregard the misses.

    Thank you, Mr Jako. Following my brother's murder, our family stooped to employing these con-artists in the desperate hope that readings would lead to the person who took our Nicholas' life. Take this fiasco and multiply it a dozen times and you'll know what we went through. Most are crafty manipulators and narcissists who throw tantrums if they lose control of the discussion (and tantrums laced with colorful profanity, in the case of a certain unnamed NYC "medium" known for the buffed, bleached rat's nest glued to her head).
    Van Praagh is by far the most odious of that lot and I thank you for taking the time to show what a fraud he is.

I was 90% sure that these mediums are fraudsters but after seeing this, I'm totally convinced that he is an absolute farce!!! Disgraceful. The person on the video is fair and open minded and I think this is some of the best evidence we have to 'disprove' these people. it should be put on TV and in magazines and open the world's eyes to people like this. I love the way at the end he said he believes in God and an afterlife. Just brilliant. Brilliant video! Thanks for posting

    I don't understand how Van Praagh agreed to do this. A universal feature of readings that is not dependent on culture, gender, etc., is that Spirit comes through for two reasons. Someone is struggling and needs counselling with self care or secondly, suffering a bereavement.....if the tester has neither issue, than there is no reason to connect. Testing for the sake of testing doesn't really work. Connecting is a gift and is special, its not for science's sake for the sake of it. I've seen really great blind tests from psychical researchers using genuine clients with genuine issues.....Donna Moncrieffe uploaded a great one if you search for her on here. Another feature is that Spirit never seeks to be proven. If someone wants to live in a world where there is no other world of existence, that illusion will be maintained and will not be challenged by Spirit. You are also not consciously consenting for Spirit to "access you. " Its respecting your free will and also, some Spirits have low lying leech-like behaviours and its to protect from that. If you have a high skepticism, and FEEL offended by the idea before you begin, you're already shutting down "permission." James is a veteran at this......why he went ahead anyway........baffling. I truly do believe he has personal issues though. He is very insecure and seeks to prove he is "REAL". He does have genuine ability, I truly believe that, but he also has a co-measurement of psychic projection......i.e., his own head makes things up and projects it as other people's stuff because of his own baggage. He's been caught doing some cold reading in the past to supplement his work. He's not mentally strong enough or have the right attitude to be doing mediumship work....he is a very sensitive man, but if he's still trying to "prove" himself despite the rules I mentioned earlier, to take this on says A LOT about him and not in a positive light. He should have left this if he was for real.

    Psychic mediums MUST be humble and not showing off their gift for money (helping others for a living is fine but showing off on t.v., etc. is egocentric) or for fame. That's where I believe their gift ends.

    • @JHNative
      @JHNative 11 років тому

      Because the EGO often creates a wall to the gift that one possesses. I disagree with your extreme position on this issue. The FBI, CIA, Police, etc. have used mediums that have worked. Some have failed but others have been very successful. I think your narrow worldview is just that. Narrow. Open mindedness goes both ways.

      "Though I was deeply involved in the "business" of the new age I got out because I new it was all fraudulent & though it was decades before I could consider myself a proper skeptic (which doesn't mean closed-minded) I have been where you've been. What that does it let me know you're talking out of your ass!!!!! " Are you aware of how fucking arrogant you sound writing this? You're the one talking out of your ass you asshole! For all I know you're making all of this up. You cannot scientifically evaluate a personal experience. Many people have experiences that are considered deeply spiritual and even other-worldly. Until you have your own personal experience (many people do have authentic experiences) all you can say is that is not your experience. Your "skeptics" mind approach comes across as that of a self-righteous asshole opposed to being a decent human being. You don't know everything even though you seem to think you do. You're the one who needs to wake up!

      Arrogance is not the answer.
      "In 2008 while being interviewed for the Skeptiko podcast, managing editor of Skeptical Inquirer Magazine, Ben Radford challenged the host Alex Tsakiris to give him the best case for evidence of a psychic solving a crime. Tsakiris had "repeatedly accused skeptical investigators of purposely choosing the weakest cases". Radford agreed to investigate in depth a case from any period in history, around the world, "that presented the gold standard for evidence". Tsakiris chose psychic Nancy Weber who in 2006 appeared on an episode of the Biography Channel Psychic Investigators. Weber claimed to have helped the New Jersey police solve the serial murders of Amie Hoffman and Dierdre O'Brien from 1982. The police arrested James Koedatich in 1983 who was later found guilty of serial murder. Psychic Investigators interviewed Weber as well as the two police detectives she worked with, Hughes and Moore, who verified Weber had given them information she could not have known.^ "The Great Psychic Detective Challenge". I thought this was excellent and I'm proud of you. I am a Christian. I have faith in my belief system and in my God. He is as real to me as my wife or children. But I'm open minded enough to know that I could be wrong, or that the God I worship is the exact same entity or energy that you believe in, or Buddists, or whatever. Perhaps its all the same and my relationship with Him (or It or whatever you want to say) is just the one that He has presented to me. Who knows? But I can tell you one thing that is without a doubt true: James Van Praagh and John Edward are frauds. And if someone says 'well they really don't do any harm' should watch the part where Van Praagh says you were ashamed of your father. You had me on the verge of tears with the way you spoke of him. Luckily you are strong and your memories are strong enough to see through that lie. But what if someone wasn't? A statement like that about their dead father could crush them with guilt...'he forgave me for being ashamed of him but now I'm crushed because he knew I was ashamed and I can't say I'm sorry'. Stuff like that.
    Anyway, I've heard for years debunkers refer to this technique as 'cold reading' and I've always wanted to see exactly what it is. You have shown me. You have shown us all. Thanks so much, man!

    I agree that this was an abysmal failure on James's part, but I have to disagree with your statement that if James is a fake, then all mediums are fake. Its incorrect to equate fame with talent. I don't believe that he's the best in his field, not by a long shot. I believe mediumship is possible, but it a rare gift. James broke a lot of rules by asking so many questions and fishing. Good evidential mediums don't ask questions. They give you solid evidence that is extremely specific. I've seen it. This was a bad reading for sure, but don't generalize, otherwise, I'm libel to also generalize that all skeptics are close-minded egotistical jerks. And that wouldn't be very fair, would it?

      In my opinion, the desire for answers in this area is born out of the fear of non-existence after death. It's the fear of being made to leave the party and walking into a black abyss. For all those that suffer with this fear, remember that you have no recollection of before approximately the age of two years but you don't fret about that time. You will have no recollection of anything after your death, so it's not going to matter in that way either. Live your life well. It's the only one you've got.
