  • The Bells of Steel Manticore rack is a Rogue Monster copy with a much cheaper price tag. They're both 3x3 racks and highly compatible but there's a lot of differences between them.

      No.
      Rep is innovating far more than the other major companies. Rogue or Rep is the way to go.

      Had it been available a few months earlier I would have pulled the trigger, but timing didn’t work out. Ultimately it worked out, ended up with a PR-5000 Dual Athena + Lat/Low Row and couldn’t be happier. I am rooting for BoS to really build on their momentum though, multiple companies pushing on the innovation front in addition to all the smaller players in the market are ultimately good for the consumer.

      @@triplehusky9125I have a Rogue rack and I disagree. REP generally is the most optimal way to go but if you want Rogue attachments I’d argue Manticore is a better option. The differences between Manticore and Monster are subtle enough where Monster isn’t worth the premium for most and you can use the money you save going BoS on more attachments or other things. Plus, BoS has essentially copied the REP Athena to release on the Manticore so if you need a cable system build into your rack, Manticore beats Monster.

  • @mrkang4080

    The solution is easy: buy the monster, add the lat pull down from Bells since Rogue is too stupid to build a proper rack mounted lat pulldown/low row.

    Wow the Manticore seems like a great deal with a nice ecosystem, great job BOS!! Any chance we could see a review and comparison of the Mikolo 3"x3" PC02 Power Cage?
    At $599.99 the Mikolo is the absolute lowest cost 3" x 3" cage I could find with a small but nice attachment ecosystem like lat pulldown + low row, leg extension/curl, jammer arms, etc... so if it even compares in any way at such a low cost I think it could be great value that most people aren't even aware of is an option!

    Picked up a Manticore 4 post a couple months ago. Got the 90" uprights with 43" depth and I've been very happy with this thing, very impressed with the build and quality, this thing is solid. No shipping cost either as I picked it up. The same spec rack from Rogue (as much as I love them) was twice the price with 712$ CAD freight shipping on top of that yeesh gotta love shipping to Canada.

      Looking at it myself, want to grab a six post for storage and for the lat and row down the road. Did you have to bolt yours down, get the stab feet, or experience any side to side sway?
      Hows the finish holding up, and have you tried any attachments outside of BOS?
      Thanks for any info you can provide!

    • @djodoin9313
      @djodoin9313 3 місяці тому

      @@theangrycanuck8331 I did not need to bolt mine down and did not get the flat feet as it would have put the uprights a little too close to my ceiling. I was worried about not having the flat feet originally due to stability concerns but once I got it together those concerns were gone. This thing is firmly planted on the floor its super heavy so if you go 6 post it will weight a ton. I don't get any shake at all using the dip attachment with the 4 posts (180lbs body weight). That being said I have the 90" uprights with 43" cross member depth so my 4 post footprint is pretty large which probably contributes a lot to the stability and weight.
      I also get barely any side to side sway but like I mentioned the 43 inch depth probably helps as well I have a cross member on the front for extra stability and moved my pull up bar to the middle and it's been working great for me.
      I've been happy with the powder coat they used it seems to be holding up well granted I've only had it for a couple months at this point but I use it 6x a week and all the attachments are uhmw lined and I haven't notice any scuffing or scratching on the uprights.
      I have one Rogue Monster attachment I bought and it fits just as well as the Bells attachments I have (I used rogue monster squat handles as neutral grip pull up handles on my front cross member)

    Buy the rack you want that meets your needs.... you won't miss those few $100 as they years pass by, but you will still be smiling when you walk in your gym. That being said, I wish I hadn't bought my RML-490 (with many BoS hydra attachments added), but instead got a Rep rack (sadly it was before they shipped to Canada). The extra width of the Rogue rack is a pain especially on heavy bench pressing when you are alone, etc. It's very easy for your plates to snag on the safety strap pins, etc, throwing you off to the right or left. The width of Rep makes much more sense, especially if you train/powerlift with a 20 kG comp bar with narrow collars.

    Thanks for the review. I'd be very interested in getting your in depth thoughts on the Manticore leg curl/extension as compared to the Bulletproof Isolator.
    I've seen other videos saying that the BoS Hydra leg curl does not work with the low row cable (torques the connection to the upright and the lever arms scuffs it), but it seemed to work ok when shown briefly in your video.

    • @GlucksGym
      @GlucksGym  7 місяців тому +3

      It works but a few quick things if you're going to get it. 1) On the rear post like I have it the cables and your back are kinda in each other's path. It's not bad but you might bump them. 2) If you put it up front that problem is gone but then you have to get a much longer chain. 3) It's still a heavy attachment so getting it in place kinda sucks.
      Otherwise it's fine but Isolator does more (and has it's own pros and cons). Maybe I'll put a Hydra rack next to this one and do a comparison between the 3.

    Awesome review. Couple thoughts:
    1) I like how Rogue's uprights and cross members line flush with one another on top of the rack. It makes the rack look really clean. And even over video the finish of the Rogue rack looks nicer.
    2) You mentioned keyholes on the bells of steel spotter arms. I thought, in general, one reason for key holes was the ability to put some 5/8 attachments (e.g. 5/8 inch pin leg rollers). Perhaps I'm super wrong here and if so I apologize.
    3) I love your callout on how much room attachments take up on the rack, for example, I love the Rep spotter arms, but they take up so much space on the uprights. I would love to get the oak clubs ones for example I hope companies start to take this more into account with their designs especially as customers want more and more attachments.

    • @djbakasan
      @djbakasan 7 місяців тому

      You could always buy Rogue crossmembers. I actually have some Rogue top cross members on my PR-5000 sitting flush and it’s great. I got them not necessarily for that purpose but because I needed a width that REP simply didn’t make. It was a nice extra benefit though as I do think it looks aesthetically better, even if functionally it’s all the same as I never use any of the holes at the top of an upright.

      2) You are correct. That's how I used to use my Hydra Seal Row pad on my Rogue rack. It's just odd they put them there and not on the spotter arms for example.

      I did and I meant to include it in the video but the editing and everything on this one ended up being WAY more than I thought. I literally got this video ready 5m before it went live. They're swappable and pretty damn close to identical. The Rogue feet are bigger and maybe 1/16" taller (just the feet) but side by side it's hard to see any difference on the holes (height, literally anything) and if you're putting them 17, 24, 30" or whatever away you'd never know a difference in the measurements. The holes are numbered differently but that's about all you'd see.

    I'm glad to hear that you like it! BOS was having a great sale so I ordered this same rack in 90x30x17 about 10 days ago with the plate loaded pulley system and a few other accessories. Going by your review, I'll have to pick up some BOS spotter arms soon.
    A few questions for you:
    Did you get the dip attachment with yours? If so, how does it measure up to the rogue?
    I ordered the front rack "feet" for extra stability but I'm thinking the overall depth with them and the pulley may prevent it from sitting on a standard lifting platform. Any thoughts on that or if they're even necessary?
    Thanks!

    • @GlucksGym
      @GlucksGym  7 місяців тому

      Yes we have the dip attachment. The quality is fine, nothing special but it's solid. The grips are pretty large in diameter (same as the Velocidor) but the quality obviously isn't the same. It stores vertically on the rack like the Mutant Metal attachment too. You got a 6 post? The front feet aren't necessary then.

    Had the opportunity to test bells, rogue and rep at the arnold sports festival. I have to say, Rep and Rogue are just at another level of quality and finish. I haven't used any titan stuff, but I'm guessing that bells/titan/so-so import brands, etc. of the world... are all pretty similar lower/mid tier - getting most of their stuff out of a catalog or with a minor tweak. The attachments at bells felt unpolished/a bit loose or clunky, while the stuff in Rogue/Rep booth felt so much better in terms of quality and function.
    If I'm buying a rack for life, than I'd still go with Rep or Rogue. Buy once/cry once.
