I recently finished my thru hike in November and hearing all these places that I either skipped or were closed and I stayed elsewhere. Although it was very cool to hear your experience!
Yes! I stayed at Woodchuck's in 2016. Ended up double zeroing because my friend and I had been dealt some carbon monoxide poisoning when some kids made a campfire that blew smoke into Vandeventer shelter all night. Woodchuck was so hospitable and understanding with our last minute need to stay longer.
It took me forever to understand that Darwin says "whenever" when he actually means to say the word "when" it's so odd, but for a non native english speaker it's very confusing haha
I wouldn't call pre-Gorham "The Wildcats" ... but the Carter-Moriah Range (which includes the Wildcats on the very southern end). In Gorham the Hiker Haven was my favorite place to stay .... it was recently sold, so not sure what the future of that place will be.
Darwin - love all your stuff. heading out for my own thru-hike in 3 weeks. FYI - it appears that White Mountain Lodge is now called Rattle River Lodge.
This was very insightful. I wish more thru hikers would publish video "top lists" on the AT like towns, restaurants, hostel's, spots on the trail etc, etc. . .
"Technically" true, but when your on the trail hiking the "milestone" is Gorham, NH.... Plus they are so damn close together, it's basically the same town. Thanks for Watching! Hike On, Darwin
Its nice to see Gorham was good for you, being from NE I have spent a lot of my time in NH and the Mt. I have never been to the place you stayed but I will try in the future and thank for the tips. Again thanks
Hey Darwin, did you stay in Millinocket when you got done with the AT? If so how did you like the town? As you might know Millinocket fell on some hard times in the past 20 years and it is fighting hard to get back on it’s feet. I did the 100 Mile wilderness back in 2017 and I stayed at Whitehouse Landing. Very beautiful place :)
HI there, Darwin, great videos!! I'm curious, everybody that you mention has very unique names; is that a hiker culture thing? Do you get to choose your own name or do other people name you? lol just wondering, thanks! ( I'm pondering what my hiker name would be...... ) :P
Darwin - loved this video! Was going to send resupply to Fontana but now I know I don't need to, so thanks! Also heard hard or pricey to get resupply at Neel Gap? Thoughts! Thank you thank you!! -- Jen
Neel Gap is Def expensive & a very limited Resupply. There is a Dollar General about 5 miles down the Mountain from Neel Gap. It's an Easy Hitch & a lot cheaper. Hike On, Darwin
Surprised to see Boiling Springs, Pa mentioned... I'd imagine most thru hikers don't stop there because the Cumberland Valley section of the AT is flat and simple, a good section to make some time. Boiling Springs is the fly fishing capital of the world. People come in from all over to fish there at the Yellow Breeches creek. I spend a lot of time with my fly rods there. The Allenberry playhouse is great too. On their playbill you will find old pictures of actors like John Travolta because many of them got their start there. Definitely worth a stop there for a day. I'm sure hikers could even hook up with a guide from the fly shop for a few hours because those guys have tons of fly gear

... am I only person who thought this would involve beautiful scenery instead of hostels on the route...
That video will be coming very soon! Hold Tight & Thanks for Watching!
Hike On,
Darwin
Haha, cheers! Touché :P xx
Exactly! All that natural beauty, instead this is "great places that I slept".
w8stral2 forests are neat
Darwin onthetrail which video is that?
Fontana Village Restaurant...Trout Tacos! AWESOME!
Happy to see people out enjoying the woods.
Either way; "Have fun" on all life's adventures.
Peace be with you.

Nice! I stayed in the Hasselhoff Suite at White Mountain Hostel back in 2014.. Loved it!

Darwin! Thanks for sharing some of your knowledge about cool places along the trail. Great video! Thanks for posting.
No Problem Dovah hiker! Thanks for Watching!

Darwin does lots of air quotes. Yowza!
Had a fly fishing camp at Allenberry a few years ago, amazing food and the stream is beautiful.
This was very insightful. I wish more thru hikers would publish video "top lists" on the AT like towns, restaurants, hostel's, spots on the trail etc, etc. . .
White Mountain Lodge and Hostel is in Shelburne, NH. That is the town directly east and adjacent to Gorham.
"Technically" true, but when your on the trail hiking the "milestone" is Gorham, NH.... Plus they are so damn close together, it's basically the same town. Thanks for Watching!
Hike On,
Darwin
Thanks Darwin! I love your videos. They are really helpful!
Some day... thanks for sharing Darwin.
Get out there!... Thanks for Watching!
Hike On,
Darwin

Its nice to see Gorham was good for you, being from NE I have spent a lot of my time in NH and the Mt. I have never been to the place you stayed but I will try in the future and thank for the tips. Again thanks
Great video & Informative. Thanks for the video.
You should have seen Allenberry before it became a resort. Super nice old farm.
amazing info. thanks for sharing brother

Darwin - Does Wingfoot still live at Elmer's in Hot Springs? He has thru-hiked 6-8 times and used to be the author of the AT Guidebook.....
You should do a top five towns on the PCT
NoBo 2018 I'll check them out bro.
White Mountains Lodge and Hostel has been renamed to Rattle River Lodge and Hostel
... and not to be confused with the White Mountains Hostel, Washington Street, Conway, NH (quite a distance from the AT).
I don't know that much about the desert, but as far as the Appalachian that's where I live

Katy B : Someone on the trail should give you a name. That's how the best names come about!
Katy B your hiker name is Stephanopolis- I dkwhy...
Katy B the best trail name will be given to you by someone on the trail, or while you are thru hiking.
I was sad Shaws didn't make your list, but it was better under the original owners. Keith's wife cooked some amazing meals.
Yes I knew them when I lived in Monson. They were the greatest.
What was your favorite section to hike
Allenberry is under new owership, so it's future status as a Hiker's stop is still up in the air.
Oh wow, didn't know that... Hopefully the new owners will make it as inviting for future Hikers as it was for me! Thanks for Watching!
Hike On,
Darwin
My list is quite a bit different, 5 standing bear 4 4pines 3 greasy creek friendly 2 Shaws 1 great Berrington Mass community center,
I lived in Monson Me. And knew Keith Shaw. Shaws is a great place.
Bears Den

Thanks Darwin !
Anyone ever see the movie Hostel?
What’s a zero? Or nero?
I can't believe I ate the whole thing!
Ok,how about some favorite places not in towns but on the trail itself. Thanks
ohh.... That's a hard one! I'll really have to give that one a thought & see what I can do. Thanks for Watching!
