I dont have sheet metal experince ....yet. My VW is still patiently waiting for me. For brass and copper forming I have a heavy leather bag filled with fine sand to form pieces. Thank you for taking time to film and post.

You’re welcome, thanks for watching . I bought a bag from Eastwood a while ago and haven’t used it yet. It’s something I’d like to try at some point.

Happy New Year to you as well ! Really digging some of the tips you offer, like not cutting out the old until you have formed the new, or at least mostly anyways. Great days to you and your crew... always look forward to more !

Very nice work! Your videos are getting me super excited about restoring my e36 M3! What is the best way to ensure that rust from pitted metal won't be an issue in the future? I plan to use a strip disc to remove corrosion and patch rot but I'm not sure how to deal with pitted but solid metal. Thinking about applying soaked rags of Evaporust for as long as it takes to get shiny pits. Any advice?

A malco shear that doesnt take out that strip of steel would work better around corners.

Did you use a rotisserie frame to flip the shell or brute force lol

Happy New Year. I need to replace passenger side torque box on my 79 z28. I think I already know the answer but I figure I ask anyway. Do I need to remove my rear end completely to do the repair?

Great question. You'd likely have to support the rear of the car so that the leafs aren't compressed. Jack stands at the rear of the car's frame rails should do it. Then support the passenger side of the rear end with a jack stand and remove the passenger side leaf spring.

Nice work Dan! Where did you buy the metal shear, and how do you like it?

Thanks Dave! I got them on Amazon (link in description) and that was the first and only time I used them. They cut 18g easy but can be hard to maneuver around turns. I ordered a good set of tin snips for trimming. Overall, definitely better than using the cut off wheel and I'm glad my subscribers kept suggesting shears. I've also heard good things about the harbor freight shears from other subscribers.

Are you happy with the metal shears? Considering buying one vs harbor freight.

It was my first time using them and I'm happy with them. They cut through the 18 gauge easy and will be my go-to for straight cuts. I had a hard time maneuvering them around the turn so I ordered some decent tin snips for final trimming. I'm trying to break the habit of using the cut off wheel for all of the cuts. I've heard good things about harbor freight's electric shears from subscribers.
