Art is a constant learning experience isn't it? Making a giant dragon is my ultimate goal in my paper mache journey. I think he looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
I love your dragon!!! Also about the restore, I, not long ago, need a roasting pan to dye paper. So I walked into the goodwill jungle, went to the roasting pan section, and there it was exactly what I envisioned!! I love it when it works out like that!!
I believe this was an amazing labor of love. Perhaps, like most of us artsy types, that’s how we learn and move forward. He is incredibly awesome❣️❤️😍❤️👍❤️
Wow, that was a big project. He does look neat. Whenever I make a art project I always feel like I could do it better or different. I have made dragons out of steel. For the skin I used a disc shape or a diamond shape that I punched out on a big machine at work. I start out with some steel rod to make the shape of the dragon and then add the skin. The skin is made of hundreds of pieces and takes a long time to make. Thanks for the video. You are always learning and teaching. Love the dragon.
I just wanted to say I used skills I learned in your videos to make a Pumpkin-head to cosplay the headless horse man, it was fun, My friends liked the costume, thank you for inspiring people to make new things :D !
I love that dragon! I like you revisiting your sculptures, it's inspiring. I want to sculpt a small dragon eventually using a pattern I have made. Love your book, it really opened my eyes on a fun way to sculpt animals =)
Planning a lrg sculpture for a project in 3 segments for easy transport and assembly for outdoor. Thinking regular mache around chicken wire framing, coating it to seal, paint, then weatherproof before last sealant. Always loved your techniques. So many ways to go about this! Don't want it to be heavy. Figure base needs to be strong and wide for support. Thinking segments need own protection/coating inside as well w/in the overlap so it looks seamless & is protected from elements. Already feeling overwhelmed haha
That’s so cool! So I have a question for you. I made a huge paper mache sculpture years ago, but unfortunately it’s a little top heavy and has no internal supports or structures in it. Sadly time has not been kind to it and has been warping the forearm and tearing the sculpture. What would you suggest to repair such a sculpture?
You might want to try covering it with several layers of paper strips held together with Titebond III wood glue. After it dries, you'd need to repaint it. For smaller projects I'd recommend the paper mache clay recipe on my site, but it might be too heavy - especially if your sculpture is already unbalanced.
@@UltimatePaperMacheThanks so much. Hopefully that will help it. But I fear that I might have to do more to it since it’s the legs that are getting warped and is struggling to hope the body up.
You're the coolest, I'm gonna learn a lot from your videos, I haven't seen all your videos, I'm hoping to see if you got videos on marionettes, I love the masks and your techniques. I like the way you do the videos
Yes, it was really heavy. It took two people to take it out of my house. Fortunately, I did measure the doorway before making it, so it fit, but I couldn't move it on my own. You'd want to use lighter materials if the weight would matter. Something like bubble wrap or even crumpled foil inside instead of crumpled paper.
Personally I think this is something for outdoor than indoor. If you ever do one again use your concrete formula to put it outside as a theme like George and the dragon or something. Anyhow wish you well.
I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you. There's a guest post on my blog, if your granddaughter is still interested in making a dinosaur. You can find it here: www.ultimatepapermache.com/how-to-make-a-paper-mache-dinosaur
I use p.v.c. pipe for the "skeleton." Lightweight, strong, & can be bent (carefully fill with sand, tape both ends shut, use a heat gun. Should be done outside & with a respirator!) There's a prop maker called "Spider Hill Prop Works" who make movable joints for p.v.c. The joints can be made stationery as well. You don't need movable joints for most things, but do use a book on anatomy & plan accordingly! P.V.C. was meant for plumbing, not Art, so creativity is needed.
Wonderful dragon! 🐉 How much enthusiasm! This is great!!! ✨ I had a similar experience with a bear - to heavy because of to much plaster cloth inside and 6 pounds of Diving lead 😂 in order to make him stay upright. 🙈 As well I tried on the poor guy different clays, adding stone meal and marble meal. It's a never ending journey - but i enjoy the ride. 😅 Since I model intuitively, I can't use your ingenious patterns. I somehow have to do it blind every time. 🤗 But I found for myself through your inspiration another solution. I make a thinn layer of paper clay between to sheets of paper - so I can model them in the way I want them to be. By using tinfoil and paper modelled in the form I need, I let the paper-clay-paper-layer dry upon. When they are dry I glue them together with paperclay and strips of paper. You are a great inspiration and your experience helps a lot! 🙏✨💖

It's so helpful to learn what you would do differently. Projects teach us so much. Which is why doing is the best learning.
That is so true! 😊

Gosh - thanks. 😊
Woah😮
where do you get the large styrofoam sheets?
They sell them at any home improvement or DIY store, like Lowes or Home Depot. They're normally used for insulation.
Is it heavy? Sorry for the late comment
