I love the end of this episode. The part where John, maybe not fully understanding, realized Jesus was more than what they'd been expecting of Messiah! 💖
Since I started studying the Torah, the Haftarah, & the Besorah on a weekly basis (about 5 years ago); certain scenes in The Chosen tend to have an even deeper meaning & understanding. The Apostles would have known the Torah from Hebrew school, & it's good to see how the writers show the knowledge of the Apostles - in this case John (& of course Jesus, who IS the Word made flesh).
I’ve watched you for years but this video was by far the best video you’ve made so far. The deep dive was so amazing and I learned many many things. ❤❤❤. Love you And Thank you.
Thunder is hands down, my favorite episode. (Season 2 is so good.) I love the pacing, the script, oof, many things. The uncomfortableness of Thomas, Ramah, and Kafni's arrival when meeting Matthew and Mary, and Thomas just apologizes to Mary after Kafni walks inside (mouths "I'm sorry"❤️). The whole visit to eat with the family whose land John and James tilled and planted, and then off to Photina and her husband's house ("Ooh, I'll take that one"). The scene with Jesus and John discussing Scriptures. After seeing season 4 in the theater, I had to watch a few favorite episodes and this was one of them, watched it with commentary. Brandon, it's funny how you mentioned Joey's smile because it was the one thing that made my heart smile, knowing that it means much more. 'The bitter with the sweet.' I know it was hard for them to hear, but Dallas needed to tell Joey, Yasmine, and Jonathan (especially with his scenes with Hassan) about their futures, in order to get the performances right in hindsight. Great job, as always! Shalom, brother. Love to you and Vanessa. 👍🙏🩵
The performance by George in this episode was especially good. The contrast of older John vs Chosen era John the son of thunder was so well done. So many nuggets from his gospel. Especially how he referred to himself as the beloved disciple.
Thanks Brandon. I am writing just to encourage you and to witness that definetely you are fulfilling your mission - to explain Chosen, to connect it with the scripture and to expand our knowledge and understanding of Bible. Chosen has already opened my eyes, thoughts and imaginations to see in the scripture new pictures and new wisdoms which i haven't seen before. But your videos really help me to understand what happened in Chosen, why it happened, how it happened and by this way to appreciate the talents, creativity and works invested by people from Chosen team. But not only that, your videos improve my knowledge about the Bible, make me understand better the texts, give me new discoveries there, stimulate me to think over them and by this way to know Jesus deeper. Thank you for your commitment.
Awesome Brandon!! Love the deep dive on logos. Learned a lot 🤩. I was going to say, that the books of Torah (the Pentateuch) got their names from the first words of the book. For example, Exodus 1 starts with “These are the names…” and that’s why it’s called Shemot, which means “names”. Awesome info, hello from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
Definitely one of the best written episodes! I think it was genius of them to include that flash forward. I love how we were familiar with some of the things being described because of S1, and unfamiliar with the things we had not seen, but then actually familiar because of the Bible. (lol does that make sense?) It's such a nice touch as well how they subtly addressed the modern perceptions of Mary Magdalene and Jesus' relationship. So small but so important. When I first watched it back when it released, I wasn't as familiar yet with my Bible so I did think that "your brother" was referring to Jesus. Then when I came back to rewatch earlier this year I thought I was going crazy because the line was different. Tysm for clarifying haha. And then of course Mother Mary's conversation with John about him being "beloved", "her disclaimer", and then the thunder. Such an enthralling opener. So beautiful.
My thought on 28:30 Scene with "Gershon" in Sychar in Samaria, and the scrolls of the 5 books of Moses: For the Jews: Only one High Priest at a time, and he is in Jerusalem. No "High Priest" for "an area", and not being a synagogue attendant. And since it was Samaria, they worshipped on Mt. Gerazim, but their temple was destroyed by the Jews over 100 yrs before, so probably not a Samaritan High Priest. Brandon, I appreciate what you do and always going to scripture. Thank you for learning the Jewish context for the historical setting and current practice, and to teach us, so we learn more from scripture and appreciate what the writers have done.
Wow Brandon. Your breakdown of all this was by far the next level of understanding and connections points for me. Loved this! Mind blown in the best way. Thank you!
Fantastic connection between Genesis 1, John 1 and Paul at Mars Hill in Acts! Had always made the first two connections, but never the 3rd. Great work brother!
Thank you sooooo much for this, Brandon! Watched and rewatched this episode countless times, plus watched your original deep dive and that of others. Yet, new insights still spring up!
17:09 This takes place between Acts 12.2-3 and Saul converted in Acts 9. So, persecution from Herod Agrippa I, but not Saul, who had come to the faith by this point and was in Antioch with Barnabas.
Great trifecta of connections, Brandon. Genesis, John and Acts reflect how Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever Amen. I'm convinced that three (3) is one of God's favorite numbers 😊
I also felt like the moment in the Samaritan synagogue was John's way of hinting to Jesus that he thought He was God without being blasphemous and coming out and saying so if he was wrong. But I love how Jesus confirms what he is thinking by using the phrase "I AM what I AM"!
For me, the chosen has really gotten me to delve into the scripture because there is things like wait is this how it happened but it’s made me go back to look
I love this episode opener, and I love the comic moment of Matthew being so specific. However, the one thing I wish had been done differently is that there seemed to be a hint of annoyance between Matthew and John, which to this point in the show was very accurate, but after season 4 the two are well beyond that. Sometimes we do have flashes back to our old selves, but I think in the moment they would have realized that they were doing that and had a little laugh over it, but that didn't happen. But that's what happens when you film out of order. Lol
I love how the books of Moses are called in Hebrew. They're just called by what is said first in each book. Check out a Tree of Life Bible version for reference.
at 31:00, the priest presents Jesus with the books of the Bible, each represented as an individual set of scrolls. Bereshit, Shemot, Vayyiqra, Bemidbar, and Devarim are the names of the first 5 books still used as names in Hebrew Bibles today.
14:00 Jesus’ gift of Mary to John in Jn 19 is His gift of Mary to us. His Body, the Church. “Brothers” also mean various family members (Acts). Jesus would not have given Mary to John if Jesus had siblings.
Thank you so much Brandon, I cannot believe that you have posted this right now. My daughter and I have spent the last few hours speaking and asking questions about who Jesus is. Was He God, did he ever say He was God. ? among other things and all of what you have said is everything we have been discussing. I am kinda wondering why it is that you have just answered a lot of questions. But also Why? now?. It’s just so strange that I opened this. Thank you so much for kinda freaking me out Lol 😂. I don’t understand how you “ knew “ we needed this xx 🙏🙏🙏
Great deep dive into scripture, comparison with the Book of John and Paul's part in ACTs. Since hearing that Dallas is doing The Way. I started reading again the Book of Acts, verse by verse along with bible study by Andy Woods here on UA-cam. Looking forward to your next video. Blessings
17:07 Whoops... Nope; Saul is no longer hunting them down by this time. This story happens in Acts 12 while his Damascus Road encounter already happened in Acts 9. He could be in Antioch already with Barnabas. In fact, if it isn't Passover here yet, Peter is next to be caught and imprisoned by (the new) Herod and then miraculously rescued, then goes into hiding. It's after that story of Peter we read that Barnabas and Saul deliver the contributions to Jerusalem, then after Herod is supernaturally killed , they return to Antioch with Mark.
❤ this episode ❤ The Into scene and Altro scene of this episode are 2 of my favorites. The scene with John helping Jesus choose a scroll is probably #3.
The episode itself is chiastic - ending with the beginning in mind. I need to go through it again to see if the whole episode is a chiasm, and more significantly, where the middle is. If so, the middle would be the most important. I wonder if Jesus' reading of Genesis is the middle of the episode. Or is it his statement "I Am what I Am"? This episode was the best written perhaps of the entire series. Super cool for Bible geeks!
When I first saw this I didn't recognize George Xanthis at all. I was worried that they had gotten a different actor for the flash forward. I was so confused. I felt dumb later when I realized that was him. It made more sense but maybe it was that his hair is more straight when in the rest of the seasons John has curly hair. I'm glad they did clarify the death of Big James too.
It is interesting that they showed Matthew distantly following Jesus distantly even before Jesus called him, like when Jesus healed the paralytic, which Matthew does record before his own calling.
I would love if they actually portray Thomas/Joey Vehidi as a Twin. I was looking for a mention of it while they were talking about his father passing and not having someone to represent him asking for Ramah's hand in marriage.
33:21. Jesus wasn’t calling attention to the fact that the Samarians only had the Pentateuch and no more, He was bringing attention, taking a dig, to John all the hotheads, like John and his brother.
I've never thought about this before now, but since Jesus didn't give Mary to Lazarus, is it more likely that he was not in Jerusalem at the cross or that he had died again? In The Messengers, older Mother Mary is not living with John. She is with Lazarus when Mary comes to visit in secret. I wonder if The Chosen will explain that. Maybe she moves to be with him because John is either dead (I know he was the last to die on Patmos) or he's traveling.
“… there are also many other things that Jesus did … the world itself could not contain all the books.” I think The Chosen has found that out also, with so many people asking, “why didn’t you Show the transfiguration? And the babtism, etc.”
I do not hate other Christian media, and I do not see these methodologies as groundbreaking. Advanced, yes. But Christian Media from Hays Code Hollywood used to do this. The classic example was It's A Wonderful Life using this technique. I mourn the death of the Hays Code. Was it a bit silly? Yes. But it made for much better storytelling.
Who among us believe young John from Galilee had a house an hour from Jerusalem? Read John 19:27 again. John was NOT the beloved disciple, that was Lazarus. Who, by the way, lived a mere two miles from Jerusalem. Lazarus was specifically identified as the disciple whom Jesus loved (John 11:3). And it was the disciple whom Jesus loved identified as standing at the foot of the cross, not John. Lazarus was the beloved disciple.
You talk to much & interrupt by laughing & adding to much of your own thoughts. I wish there was longer un interrupted segments. We don't need to be spoon fed every nuance you call out, we too have our own feelings. Otherwise I enjoy your channel. But give this some thought. I'm just an inch away of unsubscribing.
This is probably a matter of personal taste and preference - I myself fully enjoy all Brandon's thoughts (well, perhaps just 99%, but I have no problem with the rest)
I just gained a lot more appreciation for the gift God gave Dallas Jenkins and the rest of the team. @10:37 Mary Madeline "Before was one way and now is completely difficult" Initially was blurred for a split second and then the camera focused on revealing her beauty. 🫡🫡 I see what you did and much respect to your level of genius
I love how The Chosen links the Old and the New Testaments.
George said in an interview he was genuinely moved by the beauty of the moment in that scene. The tears were a real response.
I love the end of this episode. The part where John, maybe not fully understanding, realized Jesus was more than what they'd been expecting of Messiah! 💖

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God” coldest opener in the Bible ❤💪🏾🙏🏾
I’ve watched you for years but this video was by far the best video you’ve made so far. The deep dive was so amazing and I learned many many things. ❤❤❤. Love you

I totally love your Deep Dives on The Chosen. You do an incredible job giving feedback and explaining the reasons behind them.
Awesome Brandon!! Love the deep dive on logos. Learned a lot 🤩. I was going to say, that the books of Torah (the Pentateuch) got their names from the first words of the book. The end scene with John and Jesus, then the juxtaposition of him young and old...probably my favorite scene in the series so far. ❤❤❤❤❤
What about those thunders?! That was the cherry on top of this beautiful episode ❤ I love the book of John!
Definitely one of the best written episodes! I think it was genius of them to include that flash forward. Season 2 Ep 1 was FANTASTIC. The book ends were top notch!

The Chosen season 2 episode 1 is one of my favorite episodes of the whole show
Good connection with Paul in Athens!!
Well done. I should've come up to you at Chosen Con today hi. Thanks for doing these deep dives. This one was particularly impactful for me 😅
Next time please do! 😁
This is my FAVORITE episode. Genius writing ❤❤
Thank you sooooo much for this, Brandon! Watched and rewatched this episode countless times, plus watched your original deep dive and that of others. Yet, new insights still spring up!
I remember the original line being 'You need to mourn your brother' and I definitely thought about Jesus first, not Big James
Beautiful job, especially explaining the Logos.
I agree!!!! I love Thunder episode!!! One of my top 3 episodes!😊
I love your deep dives so much! No matter how many times I've seen the episodes, you'll point something out that I had missed!
This one is absolutely my favorite episode
I love the opening of John’s gospel Even more now.
Thank you Brandon, every time i get confused on character you explain perfectly, it's an Amazing show, thanks for keeping us updated
I agree 100% about this being the best first episode !
Love the slam down from Big James. Shows they are brothers!
17:09 This takes place between Acts 12.2-3 and Saul converted in Acts 9. So, persecution from Herod Agrippa I, but not Saul, who had come to the faith by this point and was in Antioch with Barnabas.
Man you did such a great job breaking down those portions of scripture! I love this, this is SO GOOD!
Great trifecta of connections, Brandon. Genesis, John and Acts reflect how Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever Amen. I'm convinced that three (3) is one of God's favorite numbers 😊
the second season of shows seem to be the peek quality of them. For instance The Chosen and The Mandalorian season 2. They're both my favorite seasons
Love, love this! I've learned so much from your deep dives! ❤
I also felt like the moment in the Samaritan synagogue was John's way of hinting to Jesus that he thought He was God without being blasphemous and coming out and saying so if he was wrong. But I love how Jesus confirms what he is thinking by using the phrase "I AM what I AM"!

I wept when I saw the beginning and end of this episode. Fantastic episode

Hello Brandon 👋. I don't remember if I watched the live. So here I am.
at 31:00, the priest presents Jesus with the books of the Bible, each represented as an individual set of scrolls. Bereshit, Shemot, Vayyiqra, Bemidbar, and Devarim are the names of the first 5 books still used as names in Hebrew Bibles today.
This is so good! You should be lecturing in seminary.
😭 thanks!
I watch you on both your channels
I love this Deep Dive! Thank you for sharing all this! 🙂
Wow. So thought provoking. Keep it coming. ✝️
Great deep dive, as always. Brandon why do you say I hate Christian media?
Just a video title lol, nothing personal to anyone.
Hello Brandon watching again because I love your deep dives

For me, Season 2 Ep 4's opener was my favorite of all so far, but this one was very close
There's actual thunder and lightning outside as I watch this video 🇧🇧
Heartfelt deep dive Brandon. Thank you. Logos (Lo-Low) (gos with a long o).
17:07 Whoops... Nope; Saul is no longer hunting them down by this time. This story happens in Acts 12 while his Damascus Road encounter already happened in Acts 9. I love the chosen all of it I have many favourite moments but Thunder is absolutely one of my favourite if not my best ever favourite
Sometimes I get annoyed when you over explain things but then you hit on things I would have never know and I’m like damn thank you lol ,So Thank you

Still my favorite episode to date.
I'd love to see George X in "The Adventures of John". From surviving getting boiled in oil to the Isle of Patmos
God bless
Hello Brandon Della here
I wouldn't get hung up on how John said Matthew would only write about... He hadn't written it yet in this story... it could change...
I wonder if they will use this in the way.
33:21. Jesus wasn’t calling attention to the fact that the Samarians only had the Pentateuch and no more, He was bringing attention, taking a dig, to John all the hotheads, like John and his brother.

I agreeseason two is great.
I think I might actually be a waterfall, but please don’t tell anyone.
John is not referring to the Greek “god” the logos, the logos was in the Old Testament far before the Greeks
Jesus is the Logos
Was this were they were changeing philip out
no this is the first introduction to Phillip in season 2, The New Phillip doesn't come in until season 4
Who among us believe young John from Galilee had a house an hour from Jerusalem? Read John 19:27 again. John was NOT the beloved disciple, that was Lazarus. Jesus died for all and may we repent and accept Him :D forgive to be forgiven and remember faith without works is DEAD
Jesus cracking jokes with construction workers? Things that make you go “Hmmm”
