  • Two more "vehicle molecular de-icers" - one with a high tech flashing LED feature.
If you've been caught out by this scam then be aware that if you paid by card on a rogue site then it's worth securing your card.
If you bought one on eBay you can open up a dispute (Item not as described).
Initially they may offer you a 50% refund to fob you off. It's up to you if you accept that.
Do not close the dispute until it has been resolved - even if they ask you to.
The reason you will see a lot of adverts for these on sites like Facebook and X is because the scammers do a hard mass-hit to make as much money as possible before people get wise to the scam.
I'm almost excited to see what they'll come up with next.
Remember - if it seems too good to be true then it probably is.

I remember talking to my father about the drills that last 2 weeks. He was saying and so was his friend that it's simply a waste of resources. A PROPERLY built drill might use twice the copper and steel, but it doesn't go for 4 weeks, it goes for 8 years. All this plastic, steel and copper could go into a PROPERLY made machine that would last nearly a decade instead of just filling up landfill. Furthermore, there's so much pointless crap like these. I have taken to getting disposable vapes and removing the battery and recharging and connecting to a headset lamp and you get at least 40 charges from a battery that was meant to already be in landfill. Not surprisingly, I have quite a stash of these batteries. Some brand include a bigger canister and smaller battery with a built in recharger. I love those. One I have even has a battery charge percentage displayed. Like actual LED 2 digit display. It apparently only gets 3 charges once the canister runs out. What a waste of an LED display

Somehow you get the feeling that many adults today didn't pay attention in first grade. In general, I think that many people no longer have a basic technical knowledge.
And the better the advertising, the more people buy it. Best of all, it still says Sale -50% here many people seem to have switched off their brains.

Possibly the only way these air freshener things work with frost removal is if you put the thing on your dashboard, it's vapour drifts up and leaves a film on your windscreen when you turn the heater to the defrost setting. The film deposited makes the condensation moisture on the inside of your windscreen impure (alters the molecular structure, questionably) so has a colder freezing point, so less likely to freeze. A less expensive method would be to put a drop of antifreeze on a damp rag and rub it over your windscreen manually.

    • @eDoc2020
      @eDoc2020 6 місяців тому +1

To answer why the cord didn't burst into flames, consider that if the lamp has a built-in socket it was made to be used as an extension cord. In the US all extension cords are 18awg or thicker which is conservatively rated for 10 amps (or 2/3 of standard circuit ampacity). This rating is enough to keep the conductors below 60 deg C in relatively adverse situations, such as if it's stuffed under a carpet. If it's exposed to open air, especially cold winter air, it will stay _much_ cooler.

If the weather forecast is for overnight frost, I have a fan heater ready inside the car (which is parked off-road) with an extension lead arranged just outside the door. If It's frosty plug into power outlet. Ice is all clear by the time I'm dressed, and keeps clear driving for long enough till the engine has warmed up. In the UK, only necessary for maybe ten-fifteen days a year.

They still use those with a computer fan blower in snow plough trucks in the US and they are 200 watts. Even saw one place in Australia that sold them. There's a better cheaper trick. You cover the grille with a sheet of cardboard held on by zip ties and the car heater will run hotter.

Yep, seen them being sold. I thought, what the what is this? Here in Manitoba, Canada, some including me have a car warmer which is a 120 volt 650 to 850 watt heater with a fan to circulate the heat in the interior. Usually have it on a timer so it runs for about 3 hours before I leave for work and it keeps windows pretty clear in -40 F. I usually buy used ones at garage sales. (Of course they are the size of an old 1970s cassette recorder.) So this little gizmo would be amazing!

I bought something from a suspicious seller once that was advertised as being genuine and new, but I had a suspicion was not. It was tech item that had been superseded by newer models but was still very capable, and the price was cheaper than it should have been, but not out of the range of plausibility for clearing old stock.
Their playbook was to have absolutely glacial handling and shipping times, and when I complained they deflected onto the carriers and said I needed to wait on them. When I continued to complain about the slow delivery and how the tracking showed they didn't even tender the package to the carrier until after my estimated delivery day, they ghosted me. After I was ghosted by them I opened a case with the marketplace they sold it on, which after more than an hour on the phone and explaining I thought they were trying to stall out the clock and never deliver they said they'd open a case... but they couldn't issue a refund until the seller had been given time to provide their side of the story.
Eventually the seller failed to respond to the marketplace, I won the marketplace protection ticket by default, and they issued me a refund.
Three weeks after the refund case closed I got a used, grimey, broken (but genuine) version of the product I ordered in a padded envelope with no invoice or retail packaging or instructions or anything.
So tl:dr; I'd expect them to stall by insisting you're using it wrong, then eventually issue a "replacement", before finally ghosting and leaving the platform they sold it through to clean up the mess (if they didn't manage to drag things out longer than the marketplace's window to make claims).

The target market is impressed by sciency-sounding words but have no real understanding of their meaning, and critical thinking isn’t their forte. I mean, of course de-icing is always a molecular process be it by mechanical, thermal or chemical means. What else is there, nuclear de-icing? Hm. That would give China a new way to get shed of all that thorium dust they seem to have lying around.

The best de-icer I have is my remote starter + defrosters. Not the best I've ever used (if you consider a garage or manually scraping with an ice scraper, heated ice scraper or using a heat gun to melt the ice/snow), but it does work as long as its not too frigid outside. If it is very frigid outside, I remote start with defroster heat on max for a max cycle (20 minutes), then I go out and spray some of the de-icing spray and run the wipers just before driving off. Whoever sells those molecular de-icers, especially those that are really air fresheners or glorified blinking LEDs should be sued for intentional false advertisement.

Before going out boil the kettle , fill the how water bottle, I steal it from the wife’s feet before she wakes ( teeheehee) put it in the middle of the dash with the blower on low and wipers on low , friction from wipers help and the water bottle loosens the ice bond on the glass. Some of those things say rechargeable but they’re not so for the price of batteries you pay for kettle use and make yourself a nice cup of tea to take with you while you wait in the car. Yea I have front and rear electric dehumidifier but the front glass takes forever when temps get real low brow -3c . Just keep the receipt for a full refund and don’t forget to bring the water bottle into the house when you get back. My wife sounds like a yelling banshee when I do. HAPPY NEW YEAR CLIVE 😁
