ABOUT THE FILM: In the 1950s and ’60s, an underground network of transgender women and cross-dressing men found refuge at a modest house in the Catskills region of New York. Known as Casa Susanna, the house provided a safe place to express their true selves and live for a few days as they had always dreamed-dressed as and living as women without fear of being incarcerated or institutionalized for their gender presentation. Told through the memories of those who visited the house, CASA SUSANNA provides a moving look back at a secret world where the persecuted and frightened found freedom, acceptance and, often, the courage to live out of the shadows.

The end of the documentary where they spread the ashes under the tree, had me in tears. This was a beautiful escape for so many. Society is less hostile than it was before but there is still room to improve. Well done documentary as always!

Hello, is there a possibility for the full documentary of this to be uploaded here on UA-cam as well, I cant seem to access the PBS website from the country I live in. I am really intrigued by their story every since I acquired the copy of the Casa Susanna book from a booksale.
I think it was Edgar Cayce who said that when we spend too much time in one gender, that we then become compelled to live several lifetimes in the other gender so as to balance the soul's journey🌹

I'm a straight white male, and I'm comfortable with that. I can't even begin to imagine not being comfortable in your own skin. My heart truly goes out to anyone who feels that way.
