I worked for a Honda dealership for almost 20 years and dealt with a lot of these older parts. I'd strongly suggest you (or anyone else) take a tap and die to clean up the threads prior to installation. Even though it's NOS (New Old Stock) thin layers of rust can build up and bind the bolts, nuts, screws during installation.
Very nice find! I've been trying to get one myself but it's near impossible to find one in decent condition. Think I'm just gonna keep using the aftermarkets unless I run into a good deal. Good luck with the rebuild!
That's awesome. I've done 5 restorations on GL1000s. This is the first time I've seen a new muffler. I generally break out the welder and repair the old rusty ones. You are taking motorcycle restoration to the next level.
The Original Exhaust on my '86 GL1200 lasted only 37 Years!.....it now has a Motad Stainless replacement Adding a little 2 Stroke oil to the Fuel Tank slows any Rusting and also lubes the Moving Components in the Carbs.
I’m currently converting my 1977 GL1000 into a ‘cafe racer’ so far it’s been a joy to work on but I’m dreading re doing all the electrics! If you still need any spares let me know I’ve got a few bits that I no longer need now
Most Excellent find, Sirius Consolidated Inc.( USA) just had one for sale it sold while i was looking at it. 1300.00 . I just refurbished mine last month . always rust out at mounts and battery side and the flanges for headers. Check the four drain holes in the bottom are not painted over All you need is the chrome I
Outstanding find indeed. I intend to remove my original GL1000 exhaust and treat as it's in very good original condition. Hopefully it won't look too much different to this when it's finished.
@@SuccessShared Not sure yet. Someone (who used to work for Honda) suggested coating the inside with 2 stroke oil before fitting as it is meant to preserve them. Not convinced about that but I'll look into it more.
@@VJMotoResto Be interested to learn more. I need to remove mine carefully to investigate before treating and painting. Am concerned about header bolts and studs being seized, but these are stocked by David Silver
Come on buddy fess up , I've spent about 5 days of labour just about replacing ½ the metal and re doing the mounts , real major surgery, Mines been back on the road 2 years , and I am going to fix a rough spot , and finally paint my tank etc , I'm amazed you found one , I remember google searching, but all that came up was one new one , but I think it was already sold and other mufflers worse than mine . Cheers .
Wow, unbelievable find….thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments! I did notice the drain holes in the bottom and will make a mental note to keep them clear.
WOW, unobtanium 😎.
Absolutely!

Thanks for the comments. Good luck with your exhaust, they're definitely worth looking after!
@@VJMotoResto Indeed they are! Are you going to treat yours with an extra coat of heat resistant paint before refitting or leave as is?

hello dear! congratulations for your work. Where did you find your muffler? thank you very much!
I was lucky enough to find someone on a Facebook group that knew a friend who had one.
Awesome, how much did you pay for that ?
WAY too much ;-)
