Fun fact: the movie was directed by Simon Wells the great grandson of H.G Wells the author who wrote the time machine

HG Wells was the only guy who spiked my interest in reading. Invisible Man, War of the worlds, time machine.... Damn it. A scientist turned into a novelist... and his works show the limited knowledge of the time like aliens dying of microbes in War of the Worlds.

@@adityagupta7727 The only Wells book I've read so far is The Island of Dr. Moreau, and it's also the only book that managed to make me feel primal fear (nightly chase scene on a beach). I'm usually pretty impervious to stuff so that says something.

Still an abomination of Wells' work. His aim was to show what the division into social castes (nobles, gentlemen and proletarians) could lead to. The upper classes completely abandon productive work and endorse leisure. The Eloi live in a dream world in their fake paradise, just consume and enjoy, but also loose the will to struggle, evolve or to care about others.
The Morlocks are not only the monsters as shown in this dumb movie. They are the ones who provide food, keep the live systems running and care for everyone. These proletarians seem to have been banned to the underground to hide the work and the workers for the clean nice illusion of a perfect world on the surface until this class separation has been manifested and cemented.
We also see some recent trends foreseen by Wells. Veganism has become the way of the upper class while the proletarians have become mere carnivors. Perhaps they need flesh for their endurant hard work. And now we have a 'balanced' system of non-working beautiful vegans and hard-working monstrous carnivors. Because of efficiency or because all food animals have been rooted out over time, the eloi replace the meat breed, so that the system can survive.
Altogether Wells accuses the system and doesn't bash the proletarians as the only evil. He warns us to continue the path of social segregation that does not only lead to a catastropy in the future but is also unjust and destructive in the present.
In 'War of the Worls' Wells criticizes another part of the system, the devastating effect of colonization.

The story of this movie is very tragic in my view. He just wanted go back in time to see his loved wife again, only to escape into the future and having to accept he would never be able to go back in time and see her, being stuck in the future for the rest of his life.

No, he wanted to go back in time and save her. But he can't. Her death was what led to the building of the time machine. It can't exist if she lives, so he couldn't go back in time to save her because he never builds the machine if she lives. The time machine cannot exist if the reason for its creation doesn't exist. So, unfortunately, she has to die. Because that leads him to make the machine to try to save her.

"Alexander finds that when your time is up, no matter how you try to alter it, you will still die someway or another"
That's a weird notion. Who or what decides when your time is up? You're saying that if a person exercises regularly and eats a healthy diet they'll live no longer than if they were hundreds of pounds overweight, ate nothing but pizza and smoked two packs a day. If you're "destined" to die at 39 regardless, why bother with anything?

No, his wife didn’t have to die because “her time was up” but because without her death, he’d never have built the time machine, causing a paradox. As explained in the video. If what you said were true, he wouldn’t be able to start recreating civilisation in the end because in the future, the Morlocks would destroy humanity. So by your logic, humanity’s “time is up” and he shouldn’t be able to start saving it.

If a thief asks you for your wallet and ring while aiming a gun at you, you don't try to fight him and do as he says. You're more likely to get out of the situation unscathed that way. That's one of the first things they teach you in self defense and any martial arts. Don't try to fighting the fight can be avoided. And that it's always actually great if the person opposite you WANTS something from you like money or your purse. You do not fight a person that has a knife either. The fact that you can be dead in less than a minute if a person experienced in knives is standing opposite you is more than enough knowledge to not fight them unless they're specifically out to kill you. 99% of the time robbers aren't out to murder anyone though. They're out to rob you. Don't try to fight a guy with a GUN over a ring unless you want your girlfriend to end up dead like in this movie.

@@Briselance In reality self defence doesnt teach anyone enough skills to truly overpower somebody stronger then you. It takes years of dedicated training to learn proper defence skills. Even if you find a really good class that gives you very good effecive moves, it's still a last resort thing. Dont fight unless your life depends on it. No item is worth your life. You dont use your self defence unless you get attacked. When they are pointinga weapon at you demanding your things, they are threatning you, but not yet attacking you. give them the stuff, and let them go without fuss. Unelss you are in fact a super well trained martial artist of soldier of some kind that knows what they are doing, dont gamble your life.
What you should never do is obey somebody pointing a weapon at you in the sense of ''follow me'' or ''get in the car''. Thats death or slavery waiting for you. Fight tooth and nail in those cases. But when they want your money or phone or jewels? Give them, and save your self defence teachings for when and If they actualy attack you first.

Namely the library assistant and the tech still working how many hundreds of thousands of years later?
Also, if the time machine essentially phases out of our time and space, how would an earthquake or moon breaking apart affect it?
It's shown that activating it encapsulates the whole machine in a bubble, that's outside our time/space .

I wish they dressed the Eloi the same way they did in the 1960 movie and have them in a remains of a future society like they did in the 1960s. The movie itself is good.
