Using him as a striker or on the flanks requires more physical skills, but in the No. 10 position, he is supported by both the midfield and strikers. IMHO his main function is to find and exploit space (Anticipation, Decisions, Off the Ball), with creativity being secondary. Hey man. Just wanted to drop a line. Loving these position tutorials. I've been playing for a few years now, but these have had me trying different roles in tactics. Thank you.
I had a winger with lots of creativity, passing, and dribbling, who could shoot and cross but wasn't as good at either as he was at creating with the ball. I used him as a wide treq. The nice thing is that it doesn't require pace, so an older winger with those stats can be used in the role as effectively as a younger faster winger. Essentially, his role allows him to come super deep to receive the ball, and then distribute or progress the ball as he sees fit. Since he got older, I adjusted his roles specifically to have him hold up the ball and cross from deep, and I actually saw an increase in his assists from that. Essentially, he can find a hole between the midfield and the back line, receive and draw out a CB with his progressive carry, and then slot the ball in the path of the striker as soon as the CB jumps. It's especially effective against 4-2-3-1. I consider it a combination between Messi and Grealish- you want him to get the ball and draw as many defenders as you can, so that he can find someone who is free in space.
Great addition to the role, thanks! I also hate using absolutes in my video, like saying only one type of player will work (I think I maybe went too far in this one on that hahaha), because there are so many stories like yours way you're able to craft the role to your player and have success (even if someone like me alludes that you may not have it)
Great video! I agree the description when it comes to defensive duties is exaggerated. Trequartista do their dirty job on defense, they are just more focused on counter attack. And if you really believe that's an issue, set him on man marking
And work rate adds to that as well; if you have a player with low work rate, they're going to be tougher to have mark their man no matter what role you choose
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker correct: there are lazy people, not lazy roles. Off topic: do you know where you can see a player's favourite role? I know the concept exists, but I cannot find it in the standard skin
I actually don't for the standard skin; I just looked by couldn't find it. There were rumblings on the forums about it being a "column" you can add in the squad view but I couldn't find it.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker exactly, I can only see it sometimes if the player ask it for a new contract or in the pre-match screen, but just sometimes. That's very stupid, a player's favourite role should be a very important part of the game. And maybe it is and we just don't know
So, in my recent save in FM23 with Roma, i started using the Trequartista in the left in my 4-3-3 because i had a great young german newgen that i think is perfect for the role and that is evolving at a fast rate and has almost all important stats in 15 or above. The interesting thing is that, he´s doing pretty good at the role but.... I hired Velasco at the start of the season as a free contract from Man City and... he was the sub... untill he started playing like prime Messi in the Trequartista xD the only stat he has higher than 15 is the dribbling and my man stated smashing everyone, mid of the season he has like 15 goals and 10 assists playing serie A and UCL against Top teams and being the best player consistently, he has like 20 Appearences and some more from the bench and hes average rating is like 7,20 all competitions and 7,30 in Serie A, with some higher than 8,00 matches... Hes just a 13-14 attribute average stats in the key attributes and he even has just 12 passing and 15 vision and makes prime Messi passes xD I think the Trequartista role is pretty special, even when you use it with someone that is not Messi level, for sure that level would be insane, and i at some point will make a player in the editor with Prime Messi stats to see what i can get out of the Trequartista role and see if i can reach Prime Real Life Messi stats ahahahhaah but the role is just insanity, i love it so much, and my Velasco is loving it too, just average Serie A player destroying UCL level teams is fun man xD
Love that story!! Thanks for; that's one of the best parts about playing FM. And my favorite part about the Treq is you don't know where he's going to go so the defense sure as heck doesn't know where to go haha. But when he gets the ball you know something amazing could happen
I played a Wolves save a fair few years back and played Diogo Jota as a Trequartista....he was amazing at it, but his attributes were insane in that save.
Hey man this role has often escaped me at times but when you emphasised the fact that the player type in question has to be a Messi Level player which is hard to find😅, thus I realise I have misprofiled the role quite often by playing a player not even close. I wanted to experiment with Havertz at Arsenal in my current save but I'd rather use a different role like CM (a) in midfield or a DLF upfront
It's a tough role to fill, that's for sure! I think we've all tried to make this role work with players who aren't qualified hahaha. I'd try Havertz in the CM(A) role; that's an absolutely brilliant role, especially like you say combined with a DLF.
you gotta believe it, trequartista will add more dynamism in your transitions of attacks, the hype of overload the opponent side of positional play of Pep era are just compensation of Guardiola perfectionist of 10 role.
Great video as all of them are! I have a quick question: you mentioned Musiala and that you would use a different Role for him. Which kind of role do you think fits for him considering also how he is used today with his goalscoaring and playmaking?
I've really liked him in the center midfield as either a Mezzala or the Central Midfielder. With Harry Kane on CF(S), he can supply a lot of playmaking duties, so I like Musiala making those runs from the midfield :)
@@janeberitzsch5559 Honestly probably a simple Attacking Midfielder on attack. That role gives the player a lot of freedom (lack of hard coded instructions), so his player traits can really shine. Maybe even a Shadow Striker And that's not to say a Trequartista wouldn't work with him, but just giving some other options to try :)
loved the video but i have a question outside of that, can you tell me the difference between the anchor man and the half back? always loved your channel, thanks for the content
Thank you and glad you're enjoying the videos! For your question, an Anchor Man is a traditional DM and sits in the defensive midfield area where he holds his position in front of the backline to provide defensive cover. A half back is usually used with a back four and when you have the ball, he'll drop into the defensive backline to create a back-3 formation. They're pretty similar in that they're both holding defensive midfielders, they don't take a lot of risks, and they're great for providing defensive cover if you have a bunch of aggressive roles up top. I should (hopefully) have some videos on these two in the somewhat near future, but hopefully that helps a little!
Can you please share the last formation (4-4-2 Diamond) tactics. It's pretty similar to what I play with, would love to try your version !! Cheers brother. Love the explanations. I would love to play Bellingham as trequartista.
Sure, and thank you for the correction on the formation! Not sure why I called it a 4312, you are totally correct in that it's a diamond. If you pause the video on the shot with the tactics, I included the team instructions as well. But just in case (it may be hard to read), here's what I'm using: Two advanced forwards Treq in the middle Carrilero (s) / Mezzala (a) in the central Halfback in the DM WB(a) on the left / WB (s) on the right 1 BPD 1 CD team instructions: balanced mentality shorter passing play out of defense slightly higher tempo higher line / higher press close down slightly more often No individual player instructions. Hope that helps!
Never thought of him a anything other than my 10, I have Benjamin Cremaschi in my Watford save and he's developed into quite a good Treq, can play CM, AM, W and ST as well so could fit into all roles, what team instructions would you have for the 442 and 433?
I find that with a 433, slightly shorter passing and slightly higher tempo work. Your team will try to keep possession of the ball so you're not bypassing the treq with long balls, but the higher tempo can still help you be more purposeful in trying to score a goal. A 442, similar instructions would work. I also like a more direct passing style with this formation. If you have your treq as one of the strikers, the direct passing style could get it to him faster and let him do his thing
Yea that'd be a great formation. And honestly the Treq could play any one of those front three options. I would play him as the #10, but that's only because I love the traditional 10 haha.
I am currently playing a 3421with a DLP and DM in the midfield two, and an AM on attack and an AP on support with a DLF on attack. After watching this I am thinking of changing the AP to a Trequartista because I have Samardzic that used to play Regista but had more impact further up the pitch and is by far my standout player at Udinese. On the AP side my wingback is on attack to provide passing outlets. If I were to turn him into a trequartista, should I change the striker role too?
I would change the treq first, and then keep watching on how the treq and the striker interact with each other. It's easier to see the impact of one role on another when only one of them has changed
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Fair enough, I tried it a couple of games and Samardzic looks like the real deal as a trequartista, definitely give him a look as he's one of the only young players that is at a smallish club that has almost all of the attributes required and plenty of room to improve!
@@meesterpitta sounds like a real winner! thanks for the recommendation, I'll check out out.Though it's rare, being able to find a gem like that can transform your team haha. Especially for a young player thanks again! and keep me updated on the tactic and if you're able to get him going
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker A little update now Samardzic has been playing as a trequartista for about half a season: It's working incredibly. He has become a key pass monster, pops up wherever he feels like he wants to and scores some crazy goals. I might make the move to a bigger team and will definitely bring him with me
And here I am, playing a trequartista with stats well below this in Ekstraklasa. Would you say that this is a role you should not use in weaker leagues?
Hmm it's tricky. To be honest, I would say in this video I probably went a little too far with saying the trequartista can't be played in lower leagues, but I think there actually is a Current Ability floor in the game to where your assistant manager won't recommend the role unless they're a certain skill level. How is the role working out for you? I generally don't use the role if I'm in the lower league, but that's not to say it would never work
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker so far it's good. I started as unemployed with no experience and the lowest licence and I'm clawing my way up jumping clubs, so I'm facing quite different challenges than most channels discuss (weirdly I never coached Premiership club in FM). Point is, I use what I find at the club most of the time. In my current club I play an asymmetric 5-2-2-1, with Libero on support (who works amazing and is way more aggressive than I anticipated). The Trequartista (One of my two transfers, 21 yo) occupies the central AM spot, offset to the left a bit. I tried to give him space to operate in, so he is surrounded by the AF in front and BWM-D behind him. There is an IW/IF/W on the right wing (depending on which player is healthy, I'm looking for a transfer for that position). In possession wingbacks provide width (left one is more attacking), and Segundo Volante and aforementioned Libero move up. He scored 7 goals and 2 assists in 15 games, which places him in top 10 scorers of the league. I could play him as AP, but in FM 24 a lot of teams play with 1-2 DMs and I'm afraid that forcing actions through that area will hurt more than it would help. Maybe I'll try out AM or SS after watching your explanation of the role. Overall, with just 3 offensive players I wanted a mobile role to roam into free spaces and provide a scoring threat as well as distribute ball.
Yea if it's working, than keep at it! I like the shadow striker with the advanced forward, little easier to "predict" what he's going to do compared with the treq. But 7 goals in 15 games is excellent production; sometimes the fact that the treq wanders can be good like you say for those 2DM systems you're facing
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker perhaps it's due to me managing only relatively small clubs (i.e. not super rich and famous initially) but my playstyle is buying good and promising players when I can and tweaking tactics to fit them in, not looking for players for very specific roles, so I'll probably test quite a few things before I jump to a different club.
I'd probably use him as a shadow striker or an attacking midfielder (attack). Some of the mentals are low for a trequartista, but his speed and mixture of technical attributes make him great for a SS or AM
Bellingham fits your category of having nothing less than 14. But I guess you didnt talk about him because he is also realy good in other Roles and kind of looses his qualities in terms of pressing while playing him as a trquartista.
That'd be a great idea to try Bellingham at a treq! I don't think I tried it with him but I'm sure he'd be great at it. Not to spoil my other video, but I talk about Bellingham in the role guide for the Roaming Playmaker if you'd like to see how I use him
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I think I have already seen it. I would say to playing him as you did is probably better, because it uses all strengths of bellingham.
I learned about something the treq which if you have a creator that has low positioning but has attributes of a creator then you fit him into a treq as the game says about positioning positioning used to describe the defensive positioning of a player and not the actual offensive positioning so a player with low positioning but has great stats at being a creator or potential growth into a creator can be used as a trequart
thank you for the correction! I had mispoke/mislabeled when I was making the video. I think I had another formation on the brain when I was working on it haha

I also hate using absolutes in my video, like saying only one type of player will work (I think I maybe went too far in this one on that hahaha), because there are so many stories like yours way you're able to craft the role to your player and have success (even if someone like me alludes that you may not have it)
Great video man, really enjoying the series.
thank you!
And maybe it is and we just don't know
Oh wow. This has to be the best one yet.
thank you! I wasn't sure if it was a little too ....Messi heavy hahaha
Hes just a 13-14 attribute average stats in the key attributes and he even has just 12 passing and 15 vision and makes prime Messi passes xD
I think the Trequartista role is pretty special, even when you use it with someone that is not Messi level, for sure that level would be insane, and i at some point will make a player in the editor with Prime Messi stats to see what i can get out of the Trequartista role and see if i can reach Prime Real Life Messi stats ahahahhaah but the role is just insanity, i love it so much, and my Velasco is loving it too, just average Serie A player destroying UCL level teams is fun man xD
Wolves secretely had some really top rated FM players. Felt like Ruben Neves turned into a world class player in every version
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker He really did. He was one of my favourite players on FM. I always wanted Man Utd to sign him irl!
In my FM23 save, I have a creative winger (Yeremy Pino) who I want to give the most creative freedom too, but he can't shoot to save his life
Hey man this role has often escaped me at times but when you emphasised the fact that the player type in question has to be a Messi Level player which is hard to find😅, thus I realise I have misprofiled the role quite often by playing a player not even close.
Very instrucive as always, thank you :) i'll wait for the perfect offensive midfielder hehe
no problem, glad you liked it and thank you for the support!
And within a 4-2-3-1 as a number ten? Because i wanted to replicate the current tactic and hit that roadbump
@@janeberitzsch5559 Honestly probably a simple Attacking Midfielder on attack. That role gives the player a lot of freedom (lack of hard coded instructions), so his player traits can really shine. Maybe even a Shadow Striker
And that's not to say a Trequartista wouldn't work with him, but just giving some other options to try :)
loved the video but i have a question outside of that, can you tell me the difference between the anchor man and the half back? always loved your channel, thanks for the content
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker thank you!!!
But just in case (it may be hard to read), here's what I'm using:
Two advanced forwards
Treq in the middle
Carrilero (s) / Mezzala (a) in the central
Halfback in the DM
WB(a) on the left / WB (s) on the right
1 BPD
1 CD
team instructions:
balanced mentality
shorter passing
play out of defense
slightly higher tempo
higher line / higher press
close down slightly more often
No individual player instructions.
Hope that helps!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Appreciate it brother. Great aesthetic content for FM. Waiting for future videos. 💪🏻🔥
6:28 Thats why hes the GOAT 🐐
Undisputed!
❤❤❤my facourite role in fm
Great video series
Thank you!
2 best player that can play the trequartista
1. Messi
2. Neymar
end of list
Thanks again
Always welcome
I think Neymar and Musiala are good examples of Trequartista
The timeless player role
The maverick role, must handle with care! 😂
very true, extreme care haha
You mentioned kdb, Bruno would be better suited to a different role. What role would that be?
KDB would be a mezzala in a 433, and Bruno probably a shadow striker in a 4231
Would this also work in a 5-2-1-2 with complete wingbacks and what striking options would you use in this formation?
Yea that'd be a great formation. And honestly the Treq could play any one of those front three options. I would play him as the #10, but that's only because I love the traditional 10 haha.
what is your team ins. for 4-4-2 diamond? :d
Any player instructions on that 442 diamond narrow?
Nope, no player instructions! Just those handful of team instructions
Especially for a young player
thanks again! and keep me updated on the tactic and if you're able to get him going
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker A little update now Samardzic has been playing as a trequartista for about half a season: It's working incredibly. He has become a key pass monster, pops up wherever he feels like he wants to and scores some crazy goals. I might make the move to a bigger team and will definitely bring him with me
keep as CF / AF or subtle change as Pressing Forward, he will helping trequartista recover the ball at front
trequartistas also work in lower leagues
Salah makes a great Trequartista!
Great call! He's an unerrated player to be in that attacking midfield area
Would Rafa Silva be a good trequartista?
I'd probably use him as a shadow striker or an attacking midfielder (attack). Some of the mentals are low for a trequartista, but his speed and mixture of technical attributes make him great for a SS or AM
I can't see a trequista role somebody help me
In polish translation is "Classic 10"
Can i use it for Kylian mbappe, as a lone no. 9?
Yea, you should see some sucess with him in that position! I probably should've mentioned him in the video lol, but thank you for the question
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker thank you, i appreciate it
That's not a 4-3-1-2, that's a 4-2-2 diamond midfield 😂
dang you're totally right hahaha... not sure why I thought that. I think I still had 433 on the brain lol
I learned about something the treq which if you have a creator that has low positioning but has attributes of a creator then you fit him into a treq as the game says about positioning positioning used to describe the defensive positioning of a player and not the actual offensive positioning so a player with low positioning but has great stats at being a creator or potential growth into a creator can be used as a trequart
that's a great tip thanks!! That's a good way to fit other players into a role maybe you don't think about him in
Thats a 4-1-2-1-2, 4-3-1-2 would have 3 central mids
thank you for the correction! I had mispoke/mislabeled when I was making the video. I think I had another formation on the brain when I was working on it haha
Spoilers out of context
Messi FM24 Role Guide
As I was making this I was like, is this too much Messi??? Then I continued on for 5 more minutes and I guess we have our answer hahaha
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I just found you out (about 2 weeks ago) and if there's something I actually enjoy I this videos is the part where you pick the "best" player to describe how the position works. For this one I thought "that's Messi", but was expecting Bernardo or Foden to be mentioned, but I'm not sure if their stats reflect this position.
Nevertheless, let me just say I'm really enjoying this series and, even tho I might not use them, I like to learn how other positions work from you.
Cheers mate
@@tiagosacramento4855 I really appreciate the support, thank you! And thank you for the feedback, I'll see about incoporating more player stuff in future videos.
For a quick side note on the player examples, I think that's always the most fun but toughest part of making these videos. I try to pick a wide range, or maybe show lower league teams, but inevitably when I show world class players there are so many examples that's it's tough to show the perfect one (except maybe Messi lol.) Anyway, thanks again!
Mbappe would have made a good example
great call; I always try to find player examples but I somehow forgot about Mbappe??? anyway thanks for the addition, hopefully people scrolling through the comments can see this to get some more player ideas
I have a love affair with Trequartistas.
