The greatest band of all time, with the greatest album of all time (The Holy Bible), the greatest written song of all time (Yes), the greatest hit of all time (If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next). Fucking amazing!
The contrast between the first and second half of this record is a cracking surprise, one of the best bands... they should have sold 10 times more albums in my humble opinion.
Lyndon Griffiths they are so underrated.. i grew up with this band but stopped listening to them and i just came back to find out they have 3 new albums
This album is amazing and yet again proves the Manis are one of the only bands out there who have something relevant to contribute Musically. The days where bands made political statements and gave us something to think about has been slowly eroded by the crap that fills MTV and other music stations inc radio these days. No we need the Manics more than ever
This would stand up up on the Holy Bible and my be a couple of others of the album,The Holy Bible is and will remain one of the best albums of all time.
@@sycofya1677 Edge can't play guitar? His stuff might be simplistic but the riffs and soundscapes he has created while being the world's foremost pioneer of the delay effect were epic to say the least. What he did for at least two decades on guitar was iconic.
The wistful chords on the lines about the wife not knowing and if it makes the husband unfaithful just illustrate how much of a genius James Dean Bradfield is. They’re such gentle and tender chords and really paint the picture of the reader of one of these books in the 70s sympathising with the wife ..or justifying their sordid little fantasy (most likely that) before they clutch their pearls about the sex pistols the next morning after they’ve satisfied themselves with one of her books. Yeah love it 👍
First time I've seen this vid . . love the song and the way they incorporate Richey into this is a true tribute to their lost friend. He is back with the band here, as James said he felt he was during the recording of JFPL
@missygreendaychimp I remember going into a record shop (remember those?) in Irvine, California, called The London Underground, the week The Holy Bible came out. It was on a rack near the front door; NEW RELEASES! Hold it up to my gf and say "Ew! This looks terrible!" Put it back down. (Mistake.) It wouldn't become one of my favorite cds until about 10 years later. What if they'd put something more appealing on the cover? Would I have discovered it much earlier?
@learue8 Haha, unfortunately I don't remember record shops as such - I was born in the mid 90s so the only record shops I really saw was HMV. I think the album cover is a little off-putting to some, but I can't imagine the album with anything other. Beautifully imperfect.
I hope there are still some more of Richey's lyrics hiding out there because they clearly bring something special out of the rest of the band. JFPL is their best album for a long time. I've liked their output since, but it's been a bit light on the dark lately.

It's all about guilt? Would things be different if his conscience was not part of his conditioning! Then again it all stems from your genetics and how you were reared!!!
No, no way is Journal better than The Holy Bible for the simple fact that the lyrics are unfinished and feel that way for most of the album. There ARE great songs on it, this one and This Joke Sport Severed, mainly, but if Richie wouldn't have topped himself, he'd have never settled with all these lyrics.
This is, in my opinion, actually one of their best songs ever. Catchy chorus, terrific melody. Just brilliant
Oh mummy whats a manic st preacher .

May be Red rubber can make competision to Yes?
Greatest B side of all time: Donkeys
My first love was 'The Holy Bible'.
Shame they ignore this album now. It’s definitely one of their best albums to date.
true
It could be because it's too painful to perform. The entire album is basically written by Richey.
my own favourite, ahead of Holy Bible and Everything Must Go
@@LBPreviews They smashed it in 2009 when I saw the perform the whole album live. JDB didn’t forget any of the words either.
their back catalog is enormous at this point. they'll come back around to it.
This song - shaped into perfection. Not a single second wasted.
This track is astonishing.

Brilliant as always!!😄👍🏻
Fun Fact: this video is directed by the former bassist of The Jesus and Mary Chain
awesome didn't know that man. Was he the one that only played with two strings?
Like that fun fact! Cheers :)
Miss Richey greatly

to memorialize a lost comrade like this, i wish i could ever be remembered so beautifully
Oh Mummy What's a Sex Pistol?
richey the best guitarist who couldnt play
joiedeceivre i feel the same about Edge, he could do a lot more on a solo project

I love this song so so so much
My favourite music video of theirs. My lip trembles every time they show Richey.

Coincidentally, 'Journal for Plague Lovers' was my second love.
GOD I LOVE THIS SONG. RICHEY WE NEED YOU !!!!!!
Happy Birthday Richey!!!

I saw manic in 93 at Lisbon in a epic concert
good old manics-with richey in lyrics!
I feel Richey would’ve approved of this.....
22,000 views for the lead single of 2009's best album? which happens to be and album by The amazing Manics?
Thank you * Manic Street Preachers * Cheers
the best song id like from them... ive been searching for such a long time coz ive forgot the title...😅

Some richeys best lyrics from past but modern album

the song that bring me to MSP
Love it. And anyway, if you listen to the videos that have Richey playing, he was a great sort of messy punk guitarist.
I love and adore them sofa king much!!!
Jenny Saville.............behind the drummer...
"the drummer" has a name -.-
@FfCompHelpfF That's cos The Sweet M&J kick ass and everyone's heard of us!
Fucking phenomenal band

I think 'Journal...' is better than The Holy Bible, although the Bible was more groundbreaking in its own zeitgeist
@TheSweetMandJ You sound like a weirdo... Your UA-cam name reminds me of something... Do I know you?
look at your pseudo intellectual use of the word zeitgeist
go in peace my fellow traveller
