The 2023 BMW X1 xDrive28i Is An Appealing Boxy Urban-Sized Luxury SUV
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- The original #BMWX1 started life out as a lifted RWD 3-series based small SUV when it first came to market over a decade ago. Since then, #BMW has switched the #X1 to the more space and fuel efficient FWD Mini platform and for 2023, the #X1xDrive28i has been fully redesigned with a look that borrows styling cues from the larger #X5 sibling. Its one of the most stylish and spacious mini luxury SUV's in the segment and a higher performance #X1M35i is also coming next year.

Happy Holidays to you all.

Can you put thr price in the power train specs. Thats the first place i go. Great job as always
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!!
Dude, its not aluminum in the door trim or anywhere its plastic with metallic paint in it
Kind of a head scratcher replacing the proven, glorious 8-speed ZF with a 7-speed DCT.
The 8 speed zf used to be in the x1 RWD. The fwd x1 ICYDK uses the same Aisin 8 speed as the rav4. But now it uses a 7 speed dct
Gotcha, thanks @@naveenthemachine
Totally agree
Why ditching bulletproof ZF8? Dumb decision by BMW.
@@ksignedoff the zf 8 is a RWD transmission. The x1 went to fwd so there was no choice
Why is the driver’s thigh extension red, while the front passengers thigh extension is black?
Design aesthetic
Is this the competition for Lexus NX?
Which one would be the better overall pick? I'm still leaning toward getting the NX for Lexus reliability.
How are you gonna have a premium package with a HUD, eucalyptus wood trim, HID headlights, sport seats, wireless phone charger and full screen displays but no heated seats? That’s a disgrace, they should make them standard on the base for the price.
Before you buy this vehicle, let me point out the error BMW made in its design. On the front grill area where the radiator is located and slightly visible. Designers should have considered to put a mesh grill cover. Just recently purchased the M35i version, in less than 3 weeks of driving on the freeway to go to work. A rock hit the radiator, took it to BMW for service and unfortunately it is not covered on their warranty. Hefty service price to pay 😏
Great review! While the design looks nice, the 7 speed DCT and lack of paddle shifters puzzles me. For about $51,000 I’d rather buy a fully loaded MINI JCW Countryman w/ the Aisin 8 speed.
No adaptive cruise control, wtf? Nissan Sentras come with adaptive cruise control stock.
You can add it as an option if you need it
Mostly everything in German cars are options
AWD is typically faster than front wheel drive. Good review.
I think it's ridiculous that the basic things like remote start and cooled seats aren't standard in vehicles like this. For a luxury vehicle it should include things like remote start and cooled seats as standard equipment and not a $500 option. I'd rather not have the wood and have remote start and cooled seats standard. These are features that are useful features and not appearance features.
Also interesting how they don't have a hybrid version to compete with vehicles like the Alfa Romeo Tonale.
He spit out a lot of information so quickly! Great job.
Can you do review of X1 M35i please? 😊
In my area, there was a dealer mark up on these. The 2023 is now being discounted.
Great review !
How do you remember all of those stats without a queue card????? Another great review. BTW all small SUVs should come with emergency 3rd row to at least fit kids.
Honestly you could just say ohhh that’s an optional extra and be correct.
Get a VW Tiguan
@@2004cyrus unfortunately they only come fwd. Midwest Winter requires AWD for us.
@@elementkx do smaller tires help much up there on a front wheel drive? Or is AWD absolutely essential for everyone?
The best thing is standard AWD. Not very common in sub-compact SUVs
Who wants launch control in a car like this? Anyways ,,, great review , good car overall
I love the looks of the new one, but the drivetrain was awful in my opinion. It hesitated terribly!
Not a fan of the wrist killing 90s style door handles. Like premium is suppose to think on ergonomics so why not invert it at least?
Definitely a head-scratcher
maybe for aero purpose
I bought this car and regret it. It is boxy and bulky. I owned the previous version (2018) and is was so much nicer. They removed the center dial which was a major mistake. It is a gas guzzler. Lastly, it hesitates and doesn't have the creep needed when speeding up at low speeds....super dangerous.
Hmmm - despite the title, and video upload date of a day ago - this is a review of the 2023 X1 . . . not the 2024 . . . .
I rented a Mini Countryman once, and I felt as relieved as if I was released from prison when I left it at the rental agency.
Looks nice, but lost me at 7-speed DCT.
It's a MINI Countryman with a bad transmission.
I don't like whining opinionated reviews.
Just report the facts, specs and functions without I wish, they should and sadly they don'ts.
Gv70 or Lexus NX
Is way better
BMWs are either butt ugly or drab plain Jane. The good news is its design theme is in for some big improvements judging from the photos I've seen.
BMW is horrible at making ventilated seats in many of their vehicles standard. Not sure why cause at their price point it should be a given.
BMW SUVs/cars have a strange/dangerous transmission lag when accelerating abruptly! I had this issue/safety concern with several X3s & 3 series cars! It’s why I left the brand for MB. I still love BMWs though, lol. Nice review mate. Cheers
definitely should have heated and cooled seats!
@@Brian_Eugene_Lee it won’t fit since it’s a transverse platform
They’d want you to get an x3 for that
Strongly considering one of these or Lexus NX350 but for this price point and living in Texas the lack of ventilated seats is almost a deal breaker. Even my 2015 mustang had ventilated seats
The nx is a much worse car than the x1.
Just for ventilated seats think about how much you have to sacrifice just for cooled seats on the nx
Spoiler Alert: you sacrifice everything…😂
Imo you’re far better off getting a Mazda cx5 signature or cx50 turbo premium both of which have cooled seats
Heck check out a Volvo XC60 for a little more money you get cooling and message seats
@@truckercowboyed2638 that too. And if you get the PHEV you get excellent performance
@@naveenthemachinethe standard features list on the BMW is pathetic
@@rdcrow91 but you expect that. It’s a bmw.
everything looked fine up until the no cooled seats part.
I’m probably sticking with gv70 or the coming cx70 over this but still nice looking.
Loaded gv70 is $60~70k, when loaded X1 is less than $50k. Compare Apples to apples please.
@@kostiantynsavostin3559 nope that is for the 3.5t the 4 popper can be hand for $50k
I don't understand the fascination with 0-60 times. I'd guess that buyers of this car or most any car you test, NEVER brake torque and smash the throttle. Of more use would be 30-70 or something like that for real world driving, passing a slow car on the highway, etc.
0-60 times are extremely important, especially with millions of illegal immigrants flooding into our country. I’ve been in several high speed/road rage incidents with illegals/Mexican gangs and was able to escape thanks to my fast car.
@@minipandora22I mean… you’re not wrong about swaths of illegals coming in…. But I don’t think that really proves how and why 0-60 times are important 🤣
@@doyoulikecrystalgel oh , I forgot to mention that I’ve been in over 5 high-speed car chases with (MS-13) illegals in the last 2 years. 🤷🏻♂️ In Yuma AZ we have no border wall 🧱
I believe they are doing 0-60 just to display some sort of benchmark or comparison so they can talk about what other cars do as well. It’s just a standard. Silly? Yes. But I’m glad they show us what these vehicles are capable of.
The m35i version is on the bmw build page now. Looks so tempting but don’t think I can afford it. Apparently it also adds a limited slip diff of some sort and drops the car by maybe 0.5”.
Definitely the best looking X1 BMW ever made. Always thought that the X1 was kinda ugly, but that is no longer the case.
Was ok - ugly now 😂
Because it now resembles original X3.
i actually liked the older funkier looking X1, i don't know why,
but they were sporty to drive. this ain't bad,
but now it looks like every other sub compact crossover on the road.
Usually Exterior colors and interior colors don't get my attention but i LOVE the Exterior color and the Interior color combo.
But it's all extra everything is extra
Doesn't dual clutch have a reputation for unreliable and costly to repair? If yes, then it would be a bad choice for an entry model that intended to lure new customers to the brand.
Yeah. Dual clutch in this not great
Why ditching lightening fast & bulletproof ZF8? I have not seen better transmission than ZF8 except for the PDK which is only in the expensive Porsches.
wow, Sofyan has too many reviews to post... the infotainment screen shows it's a Wed 28th (which means he did the actual review on June 28th) but just released it after editing on September 1st.
This is a GREAT LUXURY SUV (Unfortunately this is the ugliest color combination) #BMWx1
Lol pretty much everything is an extra $500 or $400
Total fan of your channel, Sofyan! I’ve been a subscriber for years.
I’m cross shopping the 2025 BMW X1 and the Lexus NX350 coming from a 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio that I’ve had for 5 years. Three totally different SUV’s, but looking for something more reliable and with better resell. Would you do a comparison test, or which do you prefer?
technically this platform is first used on the BMW F46 2-series grand tourer and then the X1 in 2015. F60 Countryman came out for 2017.
BMW have been killing it lately. They're definitely making the best cars in the world right now.
are you drunk ?
Much improved. M35i version more desirable.
Back reminds me of the new cr-v
This is the best vehicle BMW makes. The grill design and aesthetic is one of the only BMWs that get it right. The interior is far higher quality than it has any right to be (a leatherette stitched dash, big beautiful screen). Fantastic vehicle for what it is, the best current BMW (even if it’s a Mini lol)
MINI have been BMW for 20 years, like Rolls, same time they revived Range Rover as well.
You may want to slow down a bit. You speak way toooo fast to the point that it is uncomfortable to listen to your videos.
Superbe voiture 🚗
Really love the Channel and you definitely know your cars but your videos are way too long my friend.
Yea he is starting to repeat himself too much or repeat what he says.
I just looked up this vs the X3 and practically are both the same only the the X3 is longer.
The engine sounds rough on full chat.
The new and used X1 series are sold out in Ohio, Virginia, Maryland due to 46K to 50K price. BMW dealerships have plenty of 100K cars on the lot. Keeping my pay for 2016 X1 with rotiform wheels 😃.
And that's when they really falls apart and cost an arm and a leg
Just buy a GTI S trim. About the same space. Fun as heck. And around $30,000
That front door panel has way too much going on - red insert, wood insert, carbon fiber insert, textured speaker cover, silver handle. Yikes!
I'm wondering why the thigh support is red on the driver seat and black on the passenger seat, it looks so bad
An excellent review- a lot of detail. I drive an X-line with 18” tires, premium and professional packages, heated sport seats with lumbar support, only $45K. So choose your options carefully. Gas mileage 36 mpg at 75mph, 22mpg in suburban driving. Roomy (I’m 6’4”), nimble, quick, super on highway.
Defects? Lag/lurch from a stop, and in tight spaces that is alarming. AWD in snow is a joke, partly because the lag/lurch in slow maneuvers like on a driveway makes the wheels spin and the car skates. And on a washboard it feels like a minor earthquake.
Overall a winner.
Hey, how about a video on the X1 35Mi now on dealers’ lots? In particular, how’s the new suspension and steering. And is turbo lag and stop/start better than plain X1? And some 35Mi have a compact spare, and some don’t. What’s up with that?
Compare with Lexus NX 350 Hybrid? Would love to test drive both. Heated seats and ACC optional?! Too much a la carte. Goes with a fancy restaurant. Thanks for all the details.
Boxy?
It definitely resembles a box thrown around and dropped several times by the Fedex man..
2025 Mini Countryman/Aceman based on this will be amazing, excellent open dashboard design.

Which one would you guys like to get between 2023 Q3, Gla 250 and X1?
I would rather have a dodge hornet. Way faster, you get cooled seats , and way cheaper.
Unfortunately dodge are known as “bum cars” along with Jeep, Chrysler etc. generally only the poor and uneducated buy those brands. They’re pretty much a joke here in the states
@@kgisabeast
An $80,000 ram truck is a "bum car". GTFOH
That’s just a gross option. Why even be here on a BMW page? That’s the white trash option and this is the champagne and caviar version. The word Dodge makes me vomit in my mouth. You are not a car guy if you are even thinking about a Stellantis product. Yikes
And you’d never have anything to drive because they live in the shop. Don’t buy American.
And it’s “cheaper” because Dodge is cheap
iX1 modern i3, BEV MPV without CFRP.
Where were the cargo interior lights? Didn't see when u opened the rear hatch
When you tested the 0-60 time, did you have it in Sport mode? or was it in Comfort mode?
Can you post the window sticker
Are the M35 versions not available yet?
What color is this one?
Awesome video! I hope you can review the iX1.
Entry level small suv starts in the 50's 😂😂.. How did pricing just go haywire...
Bidenomics and his push to go green
🗑️
Nice! looking SUV. but I'll stick with my 2023 mazda cx5.
I have 2 and have owned 5 Mazdas. I love it more all of the time:
Much improved. M35i version more desirable. No shift lever. No shift paddles. Gear selector clitoris to keep all the poseurs happy.
Not everyone needs (or deserves) M, stock BMW best for most daily drivers, sport setup deteriorates ride.
Crazy how BMW charging for heated seats, chileeeee
Yes...never heard that that's a extra option on BMW:s?! Maybe Sofyan is wrong about that?
Alwyas have 😊
the DCT shifts sound very slow compared to the previous Aisin. 8-spd ZF is the best.
The more videos I watch and the more vehicles I build on the various manufacturers' websites, the more I come to love my '24 Outback Wilderness. You simply cannot get its combination of capability and creature comforts from Subaru's competitors for anywhere near Subaru's MSRP. So many of the standard features of the OBW were listed as options on the BMW X1, and very expensive options at that.
Really dude? An Outback Wilderness?
@@MrBigBoy4Life Bet yer ass. 😁

All new BMW are ugly as hell, but fun drive as usual
Such a messy interior. Way too busy. Also all the talk of extra costs.
The rear profile looks like the car got bashed with an ugly stick...
I had one of these as a rental recently and it was garbage.

Hard to see anybody actually buy this over a Tesla model Y, yes I’m comparing gas vs electric but the model y is a better car in basically every way
Definitely better fit and finish then the model Y or any or the Tesla models. Higher line sight for vision and better in inclement weather.
Except gas still goes further than electric not to mention the anemic infrastructure in place....bmw Still wins
Hahahahahahaha!!!!! You couldn't give me a Tesla.
@@michaelp.3485these Tesla lovers are always trying to make themselves feel better about their subpar purchase
Tesla model Y has to be the ugliest crossover in existence
Rented this on Turo in Canada. It’s a very nice roomy small suv that fit 5 passengers. I had in my possession for 5 days and the front seats look nice but they’re garbage! Soo uncomfortable. I was 230lbs at the time and my brother in law 175lbs and both of us were very uncomfortable
Dude you are 230 and wondering why a european compact suv seat isnt comfortable to you? Lol they are not garbage...go buy a chevy
