The Wild Rover (No, Nay, Never) - Lyrics ,
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 кві 2010
- I've been a wild rover for many's the year
I've spent all me money on whiskey and beer
But now I'm returning with gold in great store
And I never will play the wild rover no more
And it's No, Nay, never,
No, nay never no more
Will I play the wild rover,
No never no more
I went in to an alehouse I used to frequent
And I told the landlady me money was spent
I asked her for credit, she answered me nay
Such a customer as you I can have any day
And it's No, Nay, never,
No, nay never no more
Will I play the wild rover,
No never no more
I took up from my pocket, ten sovereigns bright
And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight
She says "I have whiskeys and wines of the best
And the words that you told me were only in jest"
And it's No, Nay, never,
No, nay never no more
Will I play the wild rover,
No never no more
I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done
And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son
And, when they've caressed me as oft times before
I never will play the wild rover no more
And it's No, Nay, never,
No, nay never no more
Will I play the wild rover,
No never no more

This is THE Irish pub song 👌
I had an elderly Irishman as my Latin teacher in high school, and he was a delight! Every St. Patrick's Day, instead of working, we would literally do nothing except listen to Irish music (Including this song) for 40 minutes straight. It was such an awesome experience that my friend and I continue to listen to the same songs to this day (which is St. Patrick's, btw :D)
I love ❤️ this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song is actually English in origin NOT Irish
Actually got to see this performed live in s pub in the middle of Dublin. It was so cool.
lucky man ayy

Yeah, yeah I am. Apparently, the world's greatest river dancer was there, too. Got to chat with him a little. But you should absolutely go if you can, it's beautiful.
+Alex R I can't cuz I live in iraq and I can't travel there ☹️💔
Awesome good old PICK-ME-UP song love it!!!!😁😁
Same!! I saw it last week
can't listen to this song without having to add in the 4 hand claps/foot stamps during the chorus ^-^
+Jaime Clark we always slam whatever we're holding (usually a mug/cup) on the table
Jaime Clark I am the exact same way! From the first time I saw the sun performed on PBS I had to learn song lyrics and the Clapping beat from it. since then, I cannot hear the song without stomach my feet during those parts or clapping or banging the table!
I was doing exactly the same!
I can't listen to this song without having a pint of Guiness.
Same here!
I go to a Renaissance Festival most summers, and the day always ends with this big pub sing. Everyone gathers onto one of the stages and sings a collection of songs, and the regular audience members all join in. It's absolutely beautiful, and this is one of the songs they always sing. So many happy memories.
Commenting just in case you’re still on UA-cam. I’m about to audition for a Renn Fest for the first time! I’m hoping they’ll do this song for the pub singer auditions!
@@alyssa-star That's awesome! Good luck on your audition.
@@MossyBallerina Thank you!
The first time I heard it was in the pub at the Texas Renaissance Festival. I’ve loved it ever since. 🥰
If I've had a bad day at work I always come home & listen to this good old Irish song (IT'S LIKE A GOOD OLD IRISH MIST MALT)
(WHISKY = A GOOD OLD PICK-ME-UP )
Of all the places in the world i would really like to visit before i die, Ireland is definitely in my top 3
I was fortunate to spend 2 months in Dublin. My god yes go it's what you want it to be people are friendly and tradition is strong.
YES LAD, Ireland is the best, par a few... shitholes... other than that we're a great country!
Irish Bengal I can't argue with you there.
Agree with you only thats 2nd on my list. Number 1 is Belgrade in Serbia
It's a Scottish song?
They played this at my grandfather's funeral.
I came thank to Miss Abott and the Doctor 😁
Same😆😍
Same girl!
Reminds me of my great Aunt and late uncle Dobbin, rest in peace Tommy October 28, 2020.
My Irish friend sent me here and the last thing he said was "tell me when you learn the claps" Jesus Christ lmao
Whenever I sing this song, after the line "No, nay, never" I yell, "RIGHT UP YOUR CILT!" It makes this song even better then it already is.
This song reminds me of when it is Saint Patricks Day and all of my cousins and I would dance to this song. I really like it. It is a really good song.
Mary, absolute Beautiful Tribute to your Uncle Don & my friend

Rencontre franco écossaise juillet 1967. J'avais 15 ans. J'ai entendu cette chanson pour la première fois, c'était un jeune écossais qui la chantait en s'accompagnant de sa guitare. Je ne l'ai jamais oubliée...la chanson, pas le garçon.
I had to listen to it in IRISH class. The only English we heard :D

Playing this for my family, while we cook beer-battered fish, make dyed green Guinness, and make beer-cheese dip and biscuits for dinner on St. Patrick's day. Thank you for al the memories from your variety show, guys! I loved watching you with my father when I was a wee lad in Toronto in the 70s. :)

I was feeling particularly Irish today.
Actually I was looking for Irish Rover by Santiano and landed up here... and now I just got thrown back into my childhood 35 years ago... I know this melody from "Klaus & Klaus - An der Nordseeküste"! Just give it a try...

Thanks a lot! Yup, there's a few good songs from Great Big Sea to listen to when smashed as well. Two that I always get on the go is Drunken Sailor and The Old Black Rum. The Night Pat Murphy Died is another great one, and the Vodka Song of course. Newfie and Irish music is very similar I find. :P

Chloe jones
song is preformed by the irish rovers
I assume there must be a different version of these lyrics somewhere. I heard a live version of this yesterday and I swear the words were different in places
chloe jones
Yeah, the part when he gives the landlady his gold is different. The Irish Rovers tend to change up the words to a lot of songs.
being a scot myself I ear it often with a "right up yer kilt" appended to the end of the no nay never.
Aye, tis how I learned it as a young lass when I joined the SCA(Society for Creative Anachronism's) & when I worked at tha' Texas Renaissance Fair. Though truth be told it brings back fond memories of my childhood as I was raised in England & Scotland from a wee lass of 3 to a fair young lass of 12. When we lived in Scotland we rented Maines of Balquhine from the Strachan's & I attened the 2 room school house just outside of Chapel of Garioch. One thing I truly miss and wish I could have returned too with my own daughter! I know she'd appreciate the beauty of the bonny land as I did & still do! I've strong blood ties to not only Scotland but Ireland & England too. Have Urquhart, Guthrie, Stewart, McDonnell & McDonald clan blood ta' name just a few that run threw my veins an' I'm right bloody proud of my lineage too! May have been born in america but my heart an' soul belong to Scotland & Ireland. This song always puts a bounce in my step when I hear it! Lol
Btw Great Song!
This is bugging me. It's my favorite rendition of the song, but I don't know who did it! One of my favorite drinkin songs! lol
I know i'm a bit late, but it's The Irish Rovers.
