Its important when NIL is a thing. Lowering the Star is to purposely drop their stock. Since you did not pick a school we like, were going to drop your stock. Now the only leverage they have is talent, because they did pick another school. They didn't pay kids for their likeness back then.
The “Star Sytem” is the “Jim Crow” rating system to control the “value” of black HS athletes who go counter to the “Master”. We know the SEC (the Slave Enforcement Conference) gets all the “young bucks” and “young studs”. If the “Master” can’t have you, they don’t want anyone to have you….and after Coach Prime got Travis Hunter, they sho don’t want him getting anymore players that could raise the level of the CU Football Program. It’s because he’s not having a good senior year in high school. If he was performing like he was when he was a junior than he would be a four star. You have to actual follow recruiting though. Rivals, 247, everyone updates weekly. Gotta perform to be a four or five star, 3 stars are mostly players with good measurements. Another thing that factors in is how your high school team performs, players that win a state championship are always regarded higher. Check his stats this year. They’re pretty underwhelming. Hopefully he has a better year, He’s falling, but that’s kinda on him right now
Unbelievable. I've seen close up how these stars are given and taken. The high 5s, 4s, 3s, and 2s are objective for the most part. However, moving a high 3 to a low 4 is subjective and open for corruption. There is a lot riding on it. E.g., JJ Lewis was dropped from a 5 to a 4 when it looked like he was gonna flip to Colorado. That could have been a knock on CU or a nod to USC who wasn't going to look as bad if they lost a 4S instead of a 5S, or both.

They need to be investigated. What board or groups of people rank these players? Let’s investigate and do our own study. First we need the names of these people. Then we can ask the question, what reason was it for that particular player ranking to drop. Nothing’s going to change unless we change it.

It's also a recruiting opportunity, let's be honest , you have 2 schools let say in Texas one has 19 1 and 2 star coming , and the other school is known for winning and players going to the league but they have 19 4 and 5 star players. And that school said you can play , you know ow what school you picking.
Happens when the kid commits to a program or coach that the rating system( rivals, 247, or whoever) feels that the prospects chances to become a productive pro prospect goes down due to the current prestige of that institution or coach or staff. Which I think is b.s. but this is what they said. Didn't make it up. Their words. Do your research and you shall see. It's still stupid.
