I got my g.1 back in early November. I swore I wasn't going to get a gravel bike. But they she was at Walmart on clearance. An online return that was filthy. Got it for 180, brought it home and went through it. I got it adjusted and hit the rode at 2am that night and easy 10 miles in and I fell in love. I just hit 400 miles before Xmas! Mostly road riding I can't believe this became my favorite bike. My axum is very jealous. Keep up the great work! Nice video 👍🏾
I bought one last spring and have put over 2k miles on it. It has been very reliable. The only things that I have upgraded for performance sake was a mega range freewheel and pedals so I could go clipless. I did replace the seat post because the bolt would catch my pants everyone and a while. Other than that the only things I have replaced have been parts that have worn out like the tires and brakes. I have had to do a tune-up on it a few times, could have probably done it in once but I really didnt know what I was doing and still dont 100%. I have full confidence in this bike and dont hesitate to take it on rides 80+ miles, I am actually planning to take it on an unsupported bike packing trip across the Katy Trail in MO early this spring.
Wow that is a lot of miles for a department store bike. You might be a record holder of some kind. Can I ask where you found replacement brake pads for the bike?
I got one last week as well. After going through everything, I had to dedicate a few hours to getting the brakes working as intended and the shifting to work as intended (Front was a nightmare). It isnt a bad riding bike once you have it dialed in.
This is pretty much how I plan to spend my weekend. Mine the brakes were okay, as a typical mountain biker I was a little surprised by the lack of traction on hard braking though.
First thing i did with mine is get the shifting tuned and adjusted. After that the bikes went amazing and shifting great. I guess the aluminum hanger gets bent really easy when the shipping process and it was way out of alignment.
100% agree. At 198 it is a bargain. Bought mine at regular price 248 online. My issue- front wheel had some wobble but with a little patience and a truing stand , it straightened out. If you have basic bike tools , setting it up was easy. Like you said perfect commuter bike or winter
I actually can't wait to get back out on this bike. In a couple weeks there will be a video with some budget upgrades and a fine tuning of the bike. Thanks for watching.
I commute on mine a couple days a week 16 miles each way. It has been a pretty good bike to get me back into it! Upgrades are endless but mainly just need mega range rear gearing, nicer bar tape, pedals and saddle with seat post.
I have had mine about 4 months now & I did some upgrades & changed it into a single speed flat bar & it hasn't give me any issues which surprises me for it to be a Wal-Mart bike
It's an ok bike. Mine lasted a couple weeks before shaking itself apart on some chunky New Mexico doubletrack. Maybe if I was better at bike maintenance, I could dial it in better, but I'm not, and it's not worth paying someone to work on.
Walmart assembly folks just put the bikes together. I don't think they spend much time adjusting gears, brakes etc. Anytime I get a bike from there, I go over it before letting anyone ride it.
Totally agree. I never mentioned in the video but i scared myself when I realized I never checked to make sure the quick releases on the wheels were tight.
I got me n my wife one. The bike in general is good but the rear wheel being a freewheel I’m changing that to a cassette. Next summer. New rear wheel and probably shifters. And pedals.
@Pedals-Plus Personally, if my bikes get a dent on the frame I consider that bike totaled and, I strip them down and scrap the frames! I don't ride damaged bicycles.
The limit screws on the front derailleur need to be adjusted. Each one sets the limit on how far in and out the derailleur can go respectively. The high limit is set too far inward, which is annoying, but better than being too far out and letting you throw the chain off the bike! 😬 Part of the price of an assembled bike is the value of the know-how and care of the people putting it together. Department store bikes are low priced in part because they're put together by low-paid, inexpert people. As is often the case with low-priced goods it takes some time, know-how and research on the consumer's part to get the full value.
Very well said and I agree whole heartedly. I'll be coming back with another video about this bike and addressing issues that I discovered in this one.

Awesome. I am considering my first night ride with this bike. I to am mostly a night rider.

Once it warms up a bit. I plan to do just that. A quick tune and a could cheap upgrades.
Thank you for this! Just built a Zorin OS box and added a PNY SSD for stuff. This got me up and going super fast.

Thank u for being honest,it's a great bike for someone who can't afford a shop quality bike
It certainly is.

That's a lot of miles for a Walmart bike. I appreciate your comment as I am now considering what upgrades to make for the next video about this bike.

I to am a flat bar guy. Not decided yet if I want to make that change.

Interesting. I'll have to double check mine. I appreciate your comments.

I'm gonna ride this a bit before I decide for sure to make the swap myself. I kinda want to replace the whole drive train.
@ yeah me to
If you buy different brake pads the brakes arnt all that bad. Stock was like metal on metal. I popped on some resin brake pads
I made some post, you can see some of the changes i made. I love this bike.
I checked out your post. I will look into those parts. Especially the crank set.
Long how till you feel a difference? Can it help with pelvic pain?
I would take that bike back with that dent on the top tube!
I own one G.1 Explorer and love it.
Lol. First of many I assume. I first saw it when I edited this video.

Could be why they discounted it. Someone damaged it. Yes two sizes med small. I got me the medium. My wife the small.
I've considered that to. I might also buy my wife one as well. I got to get her riding more ;)
